This meant that buying a room for about $89/night at a random Radisson would net you a certificate to stay at any other Radisson including the Radisson newton inn hotel hong kong New York Martinique. newton inn hotel hong kong That hotel normally sells for about $350/night.
I called Club Carlson and the agents didn t seem to know either. Some said it was based on points availability and some said it was based on rates. I even called the specific hotel directly and they didn t know either. I was in a bind and didn t know what to do.
There was one problem though. Radisson made it extremely hard to figure out how to use this certificate. newton inn hotel hong kong If you log into your account and just go directly to search for availability, it won t work. For me, I had to log in, go to my account, then at the top hit redeem and then find the reservation date. You know you re doing it right if you select the check in date on the calendar and it wont let you pick more than the next day to check out.
Basically, for the $89 that I paid at the Radisson Ontario, I was able to get a $329.00 room ($380 with taxes) newton inn hotel hong kong for free. With this promotion, you don t even have to pay the taxes! That means I saved $290!
Once registered, complete a qualifying stay before the end of 2012, and you will earn your free night certificate. Qualifying stays are defined as any points-earning stay at Radisson or Radisson Blu in the USA, Canada, or the Caribbean. That means if you go through www.radisson.com or www.clubcarlson.com to make your booking, you’ll be fine.
The terms and conditions state that the only qualifying rates are “Gold Point eligible.” This includes the AAA rate, Advanced Purchase newton inn hotel hong kong rates and Cash Points newton inn hotel hong kong rate. Exclusions include rates booked through sites such as Travelocity, rates booked through travel agents, and hotel employee rates.
When I was in Chicago, I spent the last night at the Radisson O Hare. I booked the Cash Points rate, and I got my free night certificate the same day Tahsir did. I don t value hotel rooms very highly, but getting newton inn hotel hong kong two hotel nights for the $80 and 5k points I spent is an incredible deal. I am looking forward to using my free night certificate at an expensive property where I would never ordinarily stay.
Everyone newton inn hotel hong kong should get in on this deal! Register Now. Ideally, you ll have a real night coming up where you need a hotel, and there s a Radisson nearby. But if not, do what Tahsir newton inn hotel hong kong did and find a cheap Radisson for your paid night.
Radisson s Stay One Night, Get One Night promotion s registration ends October 31 (Wednesday). Sign up now. Book a cheap Radisson by the end of the month, and you ll have until December 31, 2013 to stay for free at any Radisson in the US, Canada, or Caribbean.
Don t forget about the Radisson Best Rate Guarantee. I found a qualifying stay for $75 +tax and booked it. I then checked Kayak for other sites that might have a lower rate. I found that two sites were having a one-day special for $50 +tax. I filled out the BRG claim and in less than an hour I received a response. Radisson staff honored the lower rate and per the BRG, discounted it by 25% making my stay $37 +tax. Hello, Radisson Blu!
Be sure to book your qualifying stay by October 31, 2012 at radisson.com or clubcarlson.com and stay at any Radisson newton inn hotel hong kong Blu or Radisson hotel in the US, Canada or Caribbean between October 1 and December 31, 2012 and you will receive newton inn hotel hong kong your Free Night Award.
So in the case of Radisson Blu Chicago, the free night is worth more than 50,000 points, which can only be used on standard rooms(city view) but the free night works for the upgraded park view rooms.
Can my husband and I both get a free night if we stay 2 nights before 12/31/12, but stay the first night under my account number, check out and then check back in for the second night stay under his account number?
As of the departure of the Radisson Lexington towards the pastures of the Marriott Autograph Collection, the only property newton inn hotel hong kong left in Manhattan is the Radisson Martinique on Broadway More of a 3.5 Star property at the most.
We ve been conned!! newton inn hotel hong kong I think Club Carlson read some things about how easy people were finding it to book rooms at the Radisson Martinique and blocked the majority going forward. newton inn hotel hong kong Compared to how easy I found it to book the Free/0 Point night last month, even at the last minute, all of that is now gone. I m guessing they are at most reserving one room per night for this promo, because I tested newton inn hotel hong kong this by booking newton inn hotel hong kong one night in December and while my girlfriend could see that night previously, she could no longer see it afterwards. We tried and tested this with other nights too.

I m looking to set aside blocks in Manhattan and Long Island. Thus far I ve inquired about the Chelsea Savoy Hotel in Manhattan and 3 chain ones near my venue. I hope to stay around $150nt preferably near Penn or Grand Central Station (LIRR) but not necessary.
The Roosevelt santa cruz vacation rentals Hotel and the Radisson Lexington Hotel are near to Grand Central and both gave great (relative for NYC) rates. The Roosevelt is much nicer, but about $20 more per room, and the Radisson is smaller but $149/$159 per room which is a steal! While things may have changed in the last few months, I was also looking for hotels near Grand Central and I did a ton of research and these were the best that I found (neither requires a deposit or minimum room fill either, which is nice).
I just called marriott for various rates for wedding guests and this was one of the lowest prices. it was a great location too, as our wedding santa cruz vacation rentals was in midtown. i think their regular fare is $200+. i know, several friends mentioned how i got this deal .
we also did our reception santa cruz vacation rentals at the roosevelt hotel ballroom and although it is a beautiful historic santa cruz vacation rentals hotel, i believe santa cruz vacation rentals their standard rooms are quite small and nothing special. we didn t get to see them bc we stayed in their suites, but a friend commented on it. they gave us a rate of 169$ for wedding guest blocks.
both hotels get filled up pretty quickly though and many of our guests missed their hotel block date deadline then the price rises significantly. there are so many hotels in midtown area though santa cruz vacation rentals that prices are reasonable.

Not one of our favourite places for a variety of reasons as you shall see. There are not many places

We live on board a Bristol 45.5 sailboat and are cruising as the seasons allow and our interests suggest. We are June Wan and Bruce Clark. June is an IT person who 'retired' when the economy cheap rental cars hawaii went sour and her company in Jersey City cut staff. Bruce is a retired high school teacher and sometime author of geography textbooks. cheap rental cars hawaii This blog will chronicle their lifestyle and will also include general observations on life, politics, cheap rental cars hawaii international development, and geography cheap rental cars hawaii (broadly defined of course!).
Oh all right, so the demand was from two people. Anyway, a couple asked if we had a blog and we had to say only in Chinese (June's blog has been well-received by those who have read it). The result is that I will do my best to keep up this blog. This should prove a bit easier since the amount of work to do on the boat is declining substantially, if only because of all the work that has been done in the past 20 months. Rather than trying to summarize cheap rental cars hawaii what has been happening in the past year since the last blog entry I think I will pick up in the past month or so. If anyone has questions about earlier events, please let me know. Our recent time on board started in Noank, CT (a lovely village to visit, go to Abbott's for lobster - if you are old enough to appreciate it, there is a Costello's nearby that specializes in crabs) where we had the boat out of the water for planned maintenance. The biggest jobs were doing the bottom and installing both wind power and two solar panels. The bottom job included a lot of fairing (filling in low spots to make the bottom more streamlined) and raising the waterline about 3" in the bow - something about the 100 gallon water tank and 400+ pounds of ground tackle up there I guess. Raising the waterline meant painting a nifty red stripe after some careful measuring - every metre of length meant that the waterline changed by 3 to 4 mm. The solar and wind power were not too difficult - just running a lot of wires through very constricted spaces. After leaving Noank we wandered east and north with the general goal being to go to Maine for several weeks. We certainly did not hurry (very used to this retired business now and June seems to be a fast learner too). Some highlights (or not) of the journey): Fisher's Island, NY - FI is only about 3 mi from Noank but I just wanted to somewhere different cheap rental cars hawaii from where we had been for about a month; we anchored in the West Bay of this island that is about 2/3 private and has summer houses on it that would be bigger than the biggest houses in the Post Rd area in Toronto. Point Judith Pond, RI - I thought this would be a bit more pastoral than it turned out to be. It is long, shallow bay inland from the coast. We barely managed in a channel that the cruising guide said should have been a bit deeper than it turned cheap rental cars hawaii out to be. We found a good place to anchor that got nicer as the weekend crowds disappeared. Between one rich area and another - we were passed by this boat as we were heading toward Cuttyhunk. They were going from Newport to either Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket -- rich places all. Our boat seems big at 45 feet. This one apparently was 45 m long (judging from the emblem on this sail). Registration was in Bermuda Cuttyhunk, MA - This is a remote island (by the standards of the region) that has a few hundred summer residents and less than 100 during the winter. You feel that you are in a different cheap rental cars hawaii kind of place here, more like Maine or Nova Scotia. The harbor cheap rental cars hawaii is wonderfully protected but it is almost full with moorings - a common theme in New England south of Boston (and even parts north of it). We did anchor in close company (us on the left of the photo) and spent a couple cheap rental cars hawaii of nice nights cheap rental cars hawaii although the weather was cool and gray. I had anchored at Cuttyhunk in the early '80s. It seemed much more crowded now and there were even moorings cheap rental cars hawaii in the outer bay that were open to winds from the north and northeast. Cuttyhunk was also overrun by bunnies as well as tourists (actually more bunnies than tourists I think). They had little fear of people and I had to stop June from adopting one (or more). Marion, MA - we anchored in a crowded harbor here as well. They have left a little marked anchorage that has room for two boats at most. We ended up here for two nights as there was a gale warning for the area including nearby Buzzards Bay which is not very large and pretty well-protected and I am sure not an area prone to gales in July. This storm caused considerable damage to boats in the area including cheap rental cars hawaii a couple ending on the beach at Block Island. From Marion you have to time your arrival at the Cape Cod Canal. Currents in the Canal can be up to 5 knots. We avoided the full ebb tide but still did more than 11 knots over the bottom for a time. The canal allows you to avoid a very long trip around all of Cape Cod. There are three bridges over the canal - the nearest one is a railroad bridge which is rarely lowered. The others are high level highway bridges. Plymouth - as in Rock. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
Not one of our favourite places for a variety of reasons as you shall see. There are not many places to stop between the Canal and Boston and this was positioned well although you have to go in for almost an hour from the sea to the harbour. Not sure what the Pilgrims saw in this place that made them want to stay, although there is a very good stream available. The very large harbour cheap rental cars hawaii is mainly sandbanks (green on the chart), many of which appear at low tide (the tide range is 9'+ rather than the 3' or south of the Canal. Problem #1 - In the narrow channel next to Plymouth Beach (A on chart), June went forward to pull some chain on deck so we could anchor efficiently when we got to the deeper area parallel to the channel after it turns westward (B). Next thing we knew, the anchor ( a lovely and effective 60 lb Manson Supreme) had slipped off the windlass and was heading to the bottom taking our anchor chain with it (almost $4 a foot x 200 feet). It was tied to a rope that was pulled on deck after all the chain was gone and just pulled out the knot. I assume that the knot had loosened as it was under the chain that was constantly moving as the boat rolled and pitched. When we got to the supposed anchorage area we found that it was pretty much full of moorings. We ended up taking one of the town moorings. These were $45 a night and that did not include launch service or showers ashore. We hired a work boat and guy with a grapnel to try to snag the anchor chain since we knew where it was. After about 3 hours we had pulled up four old lobster pots, assorted rope and wire cables and an anchor - but the wrong one a small Danforth-style. We gave up on this and chalk it up to a (pricey) learning experience. The new anchor and rode are now eye-sliced to a couple cheap rental cars hawaii of hundred feet of 3/4 rope which has a large shackle cheap rental cars hawaii at the other end that it too large to come through the hawse hole. The shackle is then tied securely inside the boat as well. Problem #2 - While we sitting at our mooring cheap rental cars hawaii with no other boats witin a quarter mile a sailboat cheap rental cars hawaii ran into us! There was no reason for this at all. Winds were about 10 knots and the tide was high so they could go where they wanted to. The owner and his wife were below apparently and their adult daughter was at the helm. I think the closer cheap rental cars hawaii she got to us the more she just froze up. She could easily have turned right or left a bit and missed us, but ... The damage consisted of a hole about the size of a walnut cheap rental cars hawaii near the bow and about 6" below the deck. The lovely teak rubrail was also crushed and there were assorted scrapes and scratches. The culprit (below) was only 22' long but weighed around 6000 pounds. It also had a bronze forestay fitting cheap rental cars hawaii that was quite sharp. This fitting was torn off his boat in the collision but it took all of the damage. After this we were able to move to a Plymouth YC mooring (C on chart)that was the same price but included launch service and the use of the club's facilities. PYC is a 19th century club and very friendly but still a bit traditional. They have an 8 am and sundown cannon for example. In contrast to most clubs on Lake Ontario their membership seemed quite young with many young families. Our mooring was quite close to Plymouth Rock (D on chart

After 11 days in Halifax, awaiting various boat projects to be completed, the new holding tank was installed, and Paul was itching to leave because conditions were good and were forecast to deteriorate (in a bigger way than we expected, enterprise rent a car discount coupons but more on that later).
We really got to know much of Halifax. They have excellent public transportation, enterprise rent a car discount coupons which I used daily. I believe that I took eight different bus routes, enterprise rent a car discount coupons going to and from the Yacht Squadron to Costco, the great Canadian Tire (which someone enterprise rent a car discount coupons told me is locally referred to as “Crappy Tire,” but we found all manner of hardware, boat cushi ons, a walking stick, etc), a veterinarian clinic (for the multipurpose medication “Revolution” for both OSC a nd OSD), Starbucks, where I used their internet for hours, and several excellent enterprise rent a car discount coupons Middle Eastern restaurants, as well as a very mediocre Chinese one. The place we didn t get to wa s the Citadel, which I, at least, hope to visit on the way back.
So we finally left, using two cruising guides and the electronic chart plotter. The NW sailors on this list (Norm and Linda, you know who you are!) are familiar with Douglass (updated when there have been major changes) and Bob Hale s “Waggoner s,” (updated annually), among others, which include area maps, small charts of the anchorages, and a description of the anchorages and any
nearby services (stores, gas docks, ice, laundromats, nearby restaurants, etc). The best we can detemine, nothing quite like that exists for Nova Scotia. One cruising guide includes good descriptions and a very small scale map of Nova Scotia, with a large arrow pointing to the general area, but no “chartlets,” and the other includes chartlets, but no larger map, so unless
Both are also somewhat dated (one published in 1997, the other updated in 2009, but with many locations not revisited since 1999 or earlier), as we discovered last night, when Paul pulled into Jeddore Harbour. Mud flats on both sides and the pier mentioned in one of the guides in disrepair, so there was no way to take OSD ashore. And that s something that we never even thought about in the Pacific NW, as there were nearly always places to take dogs ashore. (Of course, we also didn t take our dog with us then.)
We knew the forecast was for deteriorating weather, but Paul left early (around 6, just after sunrise) to try to get to the next cove before the weather hit. Never, never, never do things on a schedule when you are out cruising! Paul asked me to put on foul weather gear and relieve him after he d be at the helm for at least three hours. Paul had been motorsailing, so when the sail was pulling, the boat moved much faster but in the wrong direction! (That was the fault of the person at the helm who couldn t steer straight .. Ahem.) Paul took over after he d had a break and told me later that conditions worsened probably about the time that I took over and only continued to do so. He did find an anchorage much sooner than he d intended to stop, and all four of us were relieved. It continued to pour, but the boat was securely enterprise rent a car discount coupons anchored, and the sun did eventually come out. And it is gorgeous: enterprise rent a car discount coupons a cove with low- to medium-banks, lots of trees and seabirds (mostly gulls) wheeling and calling. More rain showers and wind are expected tonight, but improvement is called for tomorrow!
What a contrast with yesterday! We awoke to bright sunshine and a nice breeze. Paul pulled the anchor up, started enterprise rent a car discount coupons the engine to get us out of the cove, then raised the sail, turned enterprise rent a car discount coupons off the engine and proceeded to spend the next five hours sailing to our next destination, which was about 25 nm away. The wind started out on a beam reach, great for junks, then steadily moved around and stre ngthened until we were beating, which is supposed to be quite difficult sailing for any junk rig. For DW the magical catboat, no problem, and she sailed beautifully. So the sea trial, which Paul was never able to do, was a rousing success. And despite the angle of heeling today (enough that anything not secured would have been thrown across the cabin), OSC took it all in as if he d don e it every day of his life and OSD was okay, too. We ll stay put the next couple of days, as strong enterprise rent a car discount coupons winds a re predicted enterprise rent a car discount coupons for tomorrow and rain on Tuesday.

The Saint John has always been the transportation conduit and the lifeblood of settlement in souther

The Saint John River is Atlantic Canada’s longest river system, and a natural highway through the heart of New Brunswick, carrying river traffic, saw logs and water to the towns and farms along its bank. For much of its length it forms the border between the United States continental airlines home page and Canada. And for boaters, it is one of North America’s great inland cruises. In fact, a journey up the Saint John River may be the most unique cruise in Atlantic Canadian waters. The system is more than just a river. continental airlines home page It is a convoluted maze of blind bays, fjords, continental airlines home page tributaries, lakes, archipelagos and marshlands that can be easily navigated by all but the deepest drafted yachts. Exploring its can take a whole summer or a lifetime to complete.
Cruising the Saint John system is one of the safest adventures a boater can undertake. For Americans sailing from the coast of Maine, there is no offshore to contend with. To reach Nova Scotia from Maine requires a leap across the open waters of the Gulf of Maine, but to get to the Saint John you simply continental airlines home page have to sail north and keep the land on your port side. Once in the system, the river channel is well marked, carefully charted and easy to navigate, all the way to Fredericton.
A journey up the Saint John begins at the mouth of the river in Saint John harbour. continental airlines home page The tricky part comes just upstream from the mouth of the river at a spectacular geographic feature continental airlines home page known as Reversing Falls. continental airlines home page The name is a misnomer. Technically, the feature continental airlines home page isn’t a waterfall it is a narrow gorge where the highest tides in the world crash against the powerful flow of the province’s mightiest river. The water is deep here; nevertheless, Reversing Falls presents boaters with a significant navigation hazard. Whitewater kayakers and jet boats have been known to brave the massive current, but prudent skippers wait for a “slack continental airlines home page tide,” a midpoint in the tidal cycle when tidal forces and the flow of the river become equal. Slack tides last for about 40 minutes during every 12-hour tidal cycle. Boaters who catch a perfect slack tide will find the water in the gorge as flat as the calmest lake.
Once through the gorge, the smell of salt spray quickly gives way to the heady scent of forests and flowers. The Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club is the first stop for many sailors. The club offers all the amenities that a cruiser could need – berths continental airlines home page with water and electricity, fuel, ice, pump-outs and showers, with grocery stores, shopping, a hospital and even a university campus just minutes away. You’ll probably find Bob Harrity here too. Harrity operates Northeast Yachts, a yacht brokerage firm that sells used power and sailboats continental airlines home page adjacent to the club. When he’s not working, he likes to take his own sailboat out on the river, sometimes sailing all the way to the head of navigation in Fredericton.
“We’re fortunate to have the best of both worlds here in New Brunswick. We’ve got great salt water boating and great inland boating as well,” says Harrity. “We’re spoiled continental airlines home page with our inland waterway. The water is warm in the summer, in the high 70s in most places, and it’s clean. You can swim anywhere, but half the fun is just in sailing up the river.”
It takes five minutes for Harrity to reel off his favorite cruising destinations continental airlines home page along the river – places with names like Swan Creek, Jenkins Cove, Flowers continental airlines home page Cove, Raft Channel, Lawson Passage and Kingston Creek. continental airlines home page Whelpley Cove is the first place that he often heads. It’s a natural stopping place, continental airlines home page he says, the only good anchorage in a wide section of the river known as Long Reach. Near Gagetown, the aptly named Hole-in-the-Wall is a narrow channel just a couple of boat lengths wide that leads to a lake in the centre of Lower Musquash Island. Belleisle Bay is a fjord-like inlet 18 kilometers long and one kilometer wide surrounded by high rolling hills that make it look a little like Nova Scotia’s Bras d’Or Lake. Along with Kennebecasis Bay at the mouth of the Kennbecasis River, Belleisle Bay forms the Kingston Peninsula, the main geographical feature in Kings County. Washademoak continental airlines home page Lake, one of the largest lakes on the Saint John system, offers an excellent anchorage at Big Cove that is a nature lover’s dream.
continental airlines home page Compared to other features on the Saint John, Grand Lake is huge, a massive expanse of fresh water that is more inland sea than lake. Not part of the main flow of the Saint John, Grand Lake is reached by navigating the narrow continental airlines home page channel of the Jemseg River, a creek overhung with trees and tricky to negotiate. Despite its size, Grand Lake is relatively shallow and tends to be choppy on windy days, with waves two meters high not unheard of. The shore of the lake offers a number of excellent anchorages including Flowers Cove, Youngs continental airlines home page Cove and Douglas Harbour. At its northern end, the lake narrows into a body of water called the Northeast Arm, fed by a narrow stream called the Salmon River. With caution, large yachts can navigate up the river as far as the town of Chipman.
The Saint John has always been the transportation conduit and the lifeblood of settlement in southern New Brunswick. The towns that grew along its banks have kept pace with river, have structured their lives around its flows, its freezes and thaws, its log drives and its floods – towns like Rothesay on the Kennebecasis River, an affluent and picturesque town that has its own thriving yacht club; Oromocto, a community surrounded by farms and a major military base, that offers restaurants, stores, banks and a boat club on its riverfront; and Gagetown, first settled by Acadians in 1691, that also has a flourishing waterfront and a marina.
Between the towns, boaters can spend lazy hours cruising past pastoral farms, pastures and forests that hug the banks of the river. Sailors in most Atlantic Canadian waters are thrilled to see a pod of pilot whales or a basking shark swimming alongside the boat. On the Saint John River, the thrill is more likely to take the form of a moose or a bear on shore, continental airlines home page or an eagle soaring in the sky. One sight that is unexpected is the presence of lighthouses along the river. By 1914 there were 21 lighthouses operating between Saint John and Fredericton. Most are now gone or in a state of disrepair but a few are still operational, especially around the Kingston continental airlines home page Peninsula. The lighthouses were originally built as a navigational aid for the steam-powered riverboats that once plied the river. The riverboats are long gone, but they left another legacy for modern pleasure craft as well – a network of public wharves that give boaters access to many of the towns along the river.
continental airlines home page Today ferries and the odd pulp barge are the only commercial boats that most sailors continental airlines home page are likely to encounter. There are a number of commercial ferries on the river, and pleasure boats are advised continental airlines home page to inform the ferry master that they are passing astern as a courtesy using VHS channel 16.
If you’re cruising in anything much larger that a canoe, low bridges and shallow water make the provincial capital at Fredericton the effective head of navigation on the Saint John River. In recent years downtown continental airlines home page Fredericton has been undergoing a number of changes designed to bring it back the river that created it. Regent Street Wharf is the best example. Open from May until October, continental airlines home page the 250-foot wharf offers a full slate of amenities for boaters and it is the best way to access downtown Fredericton from the water.
Fifteen kilometers above Fredericton, the 40-meter high Mactaquac Dam shuts down all water traffic. It’s time to meander south again, to keeping searching for the perfect anchorage, the most beautiful cove on Atlantic Canada’s best inland cruising destination.

We ran into fog as we came off Delaware Bay rounding Cape May and heading for the harbor. Again, day tours from london I am so grateful that we added radar. It sure gives you peace of mind if you can know that there are contacts out there and their relative course and speed to our boat. We got into the inlet without any problems and the visibility was at least a mile when we got into the harbor. There were a number day tours from london of boats anchored off the Coast Guard station, but there was plenty of room for us and we spent a good night in the anchorage.
Yesterday morning we headed toward the Marina. I had called ahead and made a reservation at Utsch’s Marina. The entrance is a bit tricky, pretty much a hard starboard turn from the unmarked channel, but there was at least 7 foot of water, so we had no problems. We decided to fill up with diesel and the dockmaster and a hand assisted us in getting up to the fuel dock. Once we were full of fuel, we went into our slip. Again, there were two folks from the marina staff ready to assist us in getting into the slip. They are so nice there.
When we registered, they gave us great directions and to top it off we were given a goody bag with maps, information, a sample of a coconut bar soap, biscotti, a float for a key, and even a wonderful bottle of red wine. What a warm welcome.
We found that there was a place to fill propane tanks just over the canal bridge, right next to West Marine. So, we started with a trip that way. Then it was about a mile walk in the opposite direction into the City of Cape May to an Acme Grocery store which was well stocked. We bought so much that we splurged on an $8 cab ride back to the marina.
Next found Tom changing fuel filters and me off to the laundry. Utsch’s Laundry facilities are great and in about an hour and a half I had washed all our laundry. Tom was finished with his work when I got back, so we took a cocktail out onto the dock cabana and visited with other boaters before having dinner.
This morning found us completing some banking online, filling the water tank, with a quick hose off of the boat, and then heading back to the anchorage to spend the night. I know it is going to be a bumpy, busy, noisy day and evening, but what can you expect for a holiday weekend. We will head off shore and see if we can make Block Island by Sunday night. What a great way to celebrate our Nation’s birth.
Well, this is my first entry written in the cockpit under way on a night watch. We got around early and were underway by 5:30 a.m. We have been making pretty good time. We were able to sail for the first few hours with a beautiful beam wind and we were averaging 6.8 knots. Then the wind died and we doused the sails and started the engine. We probably motored for four or five hours. Now, though we are motor-sailing with about 11 knots of breeze with a broad reach and low rpms on the engine. Not exactly without fuel, but very low consumption. It is a beautiful 4 th of July night off shore about 50 miles off Sandy :Hook New York. I can actually see fire works going off at multiple shore locations. Fortunately, there is very little ship traffic, so far tonight. I hate worrying about where they are going and whether we will have to alter course to allow for them to pass.
Tom and I are trying day tours from london a new watch schedule, so Tom is down resting and my watch will run from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. Adding day tours from london an extra hour to the watches means that there will be only one night watch apiece. And, with a five hour break, hopefully a more restful sleep. I worry about Tom getting rest. He doesn’t sleep very well when we are under way. I will report the results of our experiment, tomorrow.
We were infested with flies that started bothering us around 4 p.m. today. day tours from london All of a sudden, 100’s of common house flies were all over the boat. And, they were biting. Tom wore out one of our fly swatters. Unfortunately that left me defenseless and so I cleaned up as Tom killed flies. We actually spent almost 3 solid hours in the quest to rid ourselves of flies. I know that I will be back at it in the morning, as I don’t think they are all gone, yet.
Well we did out 5 hour shifts and I do think that worked out much better. Tom actually over slept and didn’t come on watch until around 1:30 a.m. At the time I was motor sailing because it was just such a perfect combination. We had somewhere between 11 and 15 knots of wind from just behind the beam and the boat was very comfortable doing 6.8 to 7.0 knots. When Tom came on, he decided day tours from london to turn off the engine and for the next 4.5 hours we just sailed. The wind picked up a bit more and we were averaging 6.8 knots. Beautiful night. I slept waking only about every hour then dozing right back off.
As the day wore on, the winds steadily and slowly increased and by the time we reach Block Sound, were running between 15-20 knots with higher gusts. We were still going pretty much with it so it was a nice point of sail. But, when we dropped the sail to go into the New Anchorage on Block Island, it was very uncomfortable as we pulled down the sail and worked our way into the inlet.
Block Island was very crowded, but there is pleanty of room so we anchored with the thousand other boats here. The wind was howling and the anchorage is deep, so we put 120 feet of chain out with the anchor. That allowed this tired crew to put the boat away and collaps down below to catch an early meal and then drift into a sound sleep.
This morning finds the winds down and many of the weekend boats picking up their anchors after the holiday weekend to head back home. Tom and I are going to have to decide whether to sit out the rest of the day here, or head toward Buzzard’s Bay. My vote would be to go. We will see. Tom is still sleeping as I type this.
So, we got cleaned up, enjoyed watching the activity in the harbor, and finished up a couple of projects. Then, before dinner, we dropped the dingy in and toured the harbor. There really are close to 1000 boats here in the New Harbor on Block Island. Most are boats from NY, CN, RI, and MA, here for a few days. There were only a couple of boats that looked like they might be cruisers. We didn’t meet any.
This morning we were up by 5:30 a.m. but unfortunately there was a thick fog rolling around us, so we decided to give it a little while before we up anchor and headed out into it. Within a half hour, visibility had improved to over a mile, so we got ourselves underway. It is a beautiful morning, but there was still some patchy fog out there for the first few hours. I again am glad we have radar. It helps confirm day tours from london what our eyes can and cannot see. Otherwise we would still be anchored at Block Island.
We so over stocked the boat with some things when we set out for the Bahamas last fall, that I have been planning meals that would use up some of the stores. Today I pulled a bag of dried split peas out of the locker and we are going to have split pea soup for lunch.
Well shortly after my entry for July 7 th the fog rolled back in and even though we were sailing and there was lots of wind, we could not see any more than a quarter mile or less. Again, I do love the radar. Even with the radar, it is always tense in the fog. Eventually, we got to a point where we were back to about a mile visibility and could relax, again. We made such good time that we were into the Woods Hole cut by early afternoon.
We made the decision to anchor in Hadley Harbor, which is across the channel from Woods Hole. When we got into the inner harbor, there were several boats on moorings and the anchorage was very tight. We made our way all the way up the Harbor and had turned around to anchor on the outside of the inner harbor, when another cruiser aboard Misty Maiden day tours from london called to us and told us that the moorings day tours from london were free so we picked on up.
Wednesday dawned bright and clear, so we decided to go by dingy across the channel and explore Woods Hole. We stopped on our way and introduced ourselves to John and Pat aboard Misty Maiden and to thank them for the information about the mooring. day tours from london We invited them to cocktails that afternoon.
Yesterday, with the wind howling out of the North, we opted to stay one more day in Hadley Harbor and take advantage of the next morning’s current situation to go through the Cape Cod Canal. It was a project day well spent.
This morning, we were underway before 5:30 a.m. and making our way down Buzzard’s Bay toward the Cape Cod Canal. An hour into the trip, with me at the helm, I spotted a aluminum row boat adrift. We called the Coast Guard and gave them the position of the boat and the condition. It appeared to have been pulled up on shore, as the painter day tours from london was draped in the boat. The oars were loosely inboard on the boat, there was no motor. I think there were life jackets on the floor. I certainly hope it gets back to whomever it belongs to.
Next we shot through the canal. And, I do mean shot through. We had a four knot current with us and most of the time we were moving between 9 and 10 knots. It is so fun to move that fast, aboard Footloose, as it happens only with a strong day tours from london current with us.
We wanted day tours from london to make it all the way to Gloucester across the Massachusetts day tours from london Bay, so we started shortly after 5 a.m. Boy am I glad we did. When we arrived in Gloucester, we found that there was really no place to anchor. The places that the cruising guide specified as anchorages were filled with moorings. So, we made a decision to go through day tours from london the Annisquam River canal. What a huge mistake! It was Saturday afternoon and there were 100’s of boats on the canal. Couple that with a strong current pushing us along, the railroad bridge with is normally open, closed for a train that had us trying not to run aground while holding our position for the bridge opening, and you have a huge amount of stress. It was unbelievable how clueless the small boater’s were around us, not understanding how un-maneuverable we are. But, we finally day tours from london made it to the Ipswich Bay and once we got out of the lobster pot maze, we

Another extra-tropical cyclone followed a week after Nemo. While Nemo didn't cause any deaths, this storm caused a tragedy. Miss Ally, a 45ft Cape Islander with 5 young men on board, out of Wood's Harbour, a few miles from my home, was in the vicinity of Sable Island fishing for halibut. On the night of the 17th, winds became well over 80knots from the northwest. Attempting to reach port on the mainland, the vessel was overwhelmed california inns for sale by owner and all were lost. The EPIRB went off but there was no mayday. The overturned hull was seen by aircraft the next day, There was confusion by the official authorities over the rescue effort, the SAR chiefs thinking there would be no survivors. As the hull remained afloat, with a possibility of trapped bodies, a team of volunteers from the community took a another small boat with a volunteer team of divers to the site, 80 miles offshore. They reached the hull at 16h on the 22nd, sent divers to examine the vessel but there was major damage, the wheelhouse, cabin, and everything in the boat gone. No bodies were found. The navy's dive team reached the site the next day and confirmed there were no bodies. The barometric pressure at the height of this storm was 957mB, the lowest I have ever seen.
Secondary depressions that form or intensify in the Gulf of Maine and travel NE over the outer banks of Nova Scotia are common. In the summer, Sable Island is in hurricane alley. There is no weather radar coverage anywhere off southwestern Nova Scotia, and our forecasters are often caught out by this, as they were in this case. www.passageweather.com and www.magicseaweed.com provide much better california inns for sale by owner information and they forecasted this storm ( as strong as the top end of a category 2 hurricane) accurately. Only problem is that you need internet access and unless you have this by satellite, you are very lucky to have a signal more than 20 miles offshore. For this reason, I keep a weatherfax on board ( mine is a Sitex digital one that uses miniscule electricity) and I have a Weems and Plath digital barograph, cost less than $100, and which has a little flashing icon that comes on if it's going to blow, and is almost never wrong.
This isn't the first tragedy we've had and it won't be the last. Commercial fishing in the winter is an inherently dangerous activity. When you tie up in one of these harbours, perhaps spare a thought for the guys that are at this all year round
Peter Loveridge is a rural doctor who has lived in Nova Scotia for nearly 40 years. After learning to sail on the challenging east coast of England, he has been in and out of virtually every inlet and creek on the Atlantic coast of the province, always in a small boat, and often without fancy instruments. As he approaches senior citizen status, he is grateful that he now does have all the fancy stuff. Enlightenment came passing underneath one of the Halifax bridges and not being able to see the bridge deck. He remains cheerfully unrepentant about being politically incorrect and expressing his opinions as he sees things.

For pleasure boaters, cruising guides are indispensable. Especially for those of us exploring new territory. national auto rentals lax They’re the maritime equivalent of Yelp or Trip Advisor, national auto rentals lax but so much more. They describe the best places to anchor, where dangerous rocks lie, and what to do ashore. The name Louse Harbour itself might be enough to turn you off as a suitable anchorage, following the old “Never go camping at Mosquito Lake” axiom. Except one Nova Scotia guide says beyond the tricky entrance to Louse Harbour lies one of the quietest and prettiest anchorages in the province” complete with a pond with water warm enough to swim. A good cruising guide is like having a really smart extra crew member aboard, full of local knowledge, who you don’t have to feed. These guides also make great reading ashore in the off season. Sort of like seed catalogs thumbed by gardeners national auto rentals lax during the winter months.
Some cruising guides are the work of a single author, or authors, like the authoritative “Cruising Guide to the Maine Coast.” Known to Down East sailors simply as “Taft”, the last name of two of its three authors. Or “A Cruising Guide to Nova Scotia,” by Dr. Peter Loveridge. The feisty physician seems to have sailed into nearly every inlet in the province in his small boat. One wonders when he had time to treat his patients. His book is fun to puruse just for the no-nonsense national auto rentals lax prose. The edition I have is 20 years old but great reading still. On notorious Cape Sable, which I always want to pass as quickly as possible, Loveridge casually recommends pulling into a small cove in nearby Barrington Harbour next to a causeway where your children can swim and play in the sand dunes. Nearby, he notes, is a restaurant built by members of a religious commune “whose puritanical ways were considered national auto rentals lax too extreme, even by the standards of the locals, who at one time set a record for the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in all of Canada.” On the Honorable Billy Joe Maclean, national auto rentals lax former mayor of Port Hawkesbury on Cape Breton and the owner of a popular local bar, Loveridge notes: “He’s a rather national auto rentals lax likeable fellow, though I don’t know whether I’d want him to fill in my tax returns.”
Other guides are the collective work of sailors who contribute descriptions of places they’ve visited. These, in turn, are compiled into loose leaf volumes and updated every so often by knowledgable editors. Among the best of these are the Cruising Club of America’s guides to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. national auto rentals lax More than sixty years of observations by veteran voyageurs. Who doesn’t want that experience in the cockpit as you ponder how best to enter Grey River on Newfoundland’s southwest coast in dense fog.
Homeward bound, after EXIT’s maiden Newfoundland cruise, I intend to submit a few small updates of my own to my well-used CCA guide. There’s a new floating dock in Old Perlican. Be aware of the surge if you moor at the L-shaped wharf at St. Lawrence. The Revolution Restaurant in Saint-Pierre is not to be missed. In one instance, however, St. Bride’s on the southeast corner of Placentia Bay, just north of Cape St. Mary’s, I feel the guide understates the harbour’s problems. Navigation marks are newly missing. This particular national auto rentals lax guide entry needs an update. national auto rentals lax Here’s what I plan to email the editors:
St. Bride’s — As noted in the current entry, St. Bride’s is the only layover port relatively near the 90-mile straight line course between the Burin Peninsula and Trepassey, near Cape Race. As such, it’s tempting to stop here overnight to break up a long passage. The harbour entrance in fair weather is challenging, but doable, but beware approaching in foul conditions. Local fishermen say even they move their boats to another harbour when a severe storm is forecast. The memory of devastating Hurricane Gert lingers on. It destroyed the harbour and some of its fishing fleet in September, 1999. Fifteen years later, no one failed to mention this frightening storm and its 50-foot waves when asked about mooring conditions here. And that says something, national auto rentals lax given the toughness of the average Newfoundland national auto rentals lax seafarer.
The one red and two green channel buoys, important guides on the published charts, were gone when we arrived in August, 2014. Disappeared in a storm and not replaced. The harbour approach is now unmarked, except for three navigation national auto rentals lax lights on shore, unhelpful national auto rentals lax during daylight. On approach, stay close to the bold eastern shore to avoid the unmarked rocks awash just west of the breakwater entrance. These rocks have claimed more than one visiting boat. Unfortunately, the safe course is parallel national auto rentals lax and close to the breakwater, making it impossible to see the narrow harbour entrance, national auto rentals lax which is alarmingly close to the shoreline, until you’re on top of it. For a first-time visitor, this can be disconcerting in a fresh southwesterly with the sea pushing you from behind and waves breaking on the shore just beyond your bow. Still, it’s important national auto rentals lax to keep sufficient boat speed in order to make a last-minute, starboard U-turn around the breakwater when the entrance suddenly appears. national auto rentals lax It’s a tight turn. (Unlike almost all of the helpful Cruising Guide photos, the aerial photo of St. Bride’s gives a clinical view of the harbour that significantly underestimates the difficulty of the approach, in my opinion.)
Once inside, there’s a long wharf to starboard for off-loading fish which likely will be empty since local boats moor further back in the small harbour. national auto rentals lax There’s a significant surge at this wharf when it’s blowing southwest outside. At night, flashing red and green lights mark the ends of the breakwater. I would not attempt this entrance after dark without prior knowledge.
There’s a clean and inviting shower-bathroom in the harbour national auto rentals lax supervisor’s building. The supervisor has the key. She charged a modest $10 for a one-night stay on the wharf. We received friendly and useful advice national auto rentals lax from several local fishermen and citizens, plus a freshly caught cod, cleaned and filleted. A welcome gift from the captain of a boat on the fourth day of the three-week commercial inshore national auto rentals lax fishing season. A convenience store is at the top of the hill, a 15-minute walk from the boat basin. national auto rentals lax The town library, with wi-fi, is five minutes further on.
Hello Gene; It appears to me that you have returned to “point A”…the beginning of a wonderful summer cruise and I thank you for sharing. It brought back fond memories of my sailing experiences….I could smell the sea air all the way, but choppy seas, fog and night watches…not so much!
Being a Pacific Ocean cruiser, with a few excursions national auto rentals lax bare boating in the Carrib. I had no knowledge of your cruising grounds. From the perspective allowed by the webpage and your narratives of your experiences, the history provided by the cruising guides, the locals, not to mentions the waters traversed by our family ancestors, I can much more appreciate your choice of cruising grounds.

Micato Safaris and AmericaShare's selection for the inaugural Legacy in Travel Philanthropy Award is

NEW YORK, NY - Tourism Cares, a nonprofit organization that unites the travel and tourism industry to support emerging and at-risk destinations, invest in the next generation of our workforce and improve industry philanthropy and volunteerism, has announced its first-ever Legacy in Travel Philanthropy Award. This new honor recognizes a leading travel company that has demonstrated continued corporate social responsibility through its lifespan. The award is part of the Tourism Hall of Fame, started in 1986 and long administered by Tourism Cares, and is sponsored by American Express. The first recipient of the Tourism Cares Legacy in Travel Philanthropy Award is Micato ohare airport thrifty car rental parking Safaris.
Micato Safaris' core philanthropic programs address education in the Mukuru slum in Nairobi, Kenya: the School Sponsorship Program utilizes traveler donations to support youth attending boarding high schools (at about $1,650 per child, per year), and via the One for One Commitment, Micato pays the supplemental costs associated with sending one child to primary school for every safari sold (e.g. for books, uniforms).
The award celebrates the accomplishments of Micato ohare airport thrifty car rental parking Safaris and its associated nonprofit organization, AmericaShare. Through extensive research and the accompanying Honoree Brief, Tourism Cares also has made available Micato's results and lessons in order to inform and inspire other travel and tourism companies.
A panel of industry leaders selected Micato Safaris and AmericaShare following a review of top travel companies who have demonstrated ongoing, exemplary corporate social responsibility. The selection committee was comprised of the following:
Plans are underway to expand the Tourism Cares recognition program in 2015, to open nominations for the Legacy in Travel Philanthropy Award from the industry and to create ohare airport thrifty car rental parking additional award categories to recognize individuals and new entrants who demonstrate ohare airport thrifty car rental parking strong ohare airport thrifty car rental parking social responsibility values.
Micato ohare airport thrifty car rental parking Safaris and AmericaShare's selection ohare airport thrifty car rental parking for the inaugural Legacy in Travel Philanthropy Award is based on their performance against five criteria. They were rated in these five dimensions against other leaders in travel corporate ohare airport thrifty car rental parking philanthropy. The criteria, and Micato's results, are:
• Results over time: Micato's interventions double the chances that Mukuru students attend and complete high school, ohare airport thrifty car rental parking with almost a 100 percent graduation rate for program participants, compared to about 50 percent for a similar population of boys and just 42 percent of girls.
• Level of commitment and investment: Micato has invested in corporate social responsibility since its founding, and that accelerated in 1986 with the founding of the sister nonprofit, AmericaShare. While charitable donations and most program costs are housed in AmericaShare, Micato supports all program staff and administrative expenses, including 13 staff in Kenya and four in New York. Giving back has been a part of their DNA since their founding. "Since the first day we began operating our safaris in Africa nearly 50 years ago, we've been a part of a community, and it became clear to us early on that we couldn't just witness and empathize with the community problems – the endangered, fragile habitats, and the poverty. We had to be part of the solution," said, Dennis Pinto, managing director, Micato Safaris.
• Integration of social responsibility into their business: Community is an essential part of Micato's business – and its client experience. Travelers are respectfully given the opportunity to sponsor a child's education through the Scholarship Sponsorship Program. Most telling, the visit to their Harambee Community Center in Mukuru is mentioned twice as often in post-trip surveys ohare airport thrifty car rental parking as any individual game park (92 percent of clients mention Harambee by name, while 45 percent mention ohare airport thrifty car rental parking Serengeti).
• Sensitivity to destination needs: Through their deep connection with the community, Micato-AmericaShare identified that the needs of children with disabilities were not being met. This resulted in a partnership on the Virtuoso-Upchurch Learning Centre supporting disabled children from the community.
• Innovation: spurred by a need to keep girls healthy and in school, Huru International was formed in 2013 by Lorna Macleod, also executive director of AmericaShare, and has provided Huru Kits with sanitary pads, and HIV/AIDS and reproductive health information, to more than 100,000 ohare airport thrifty car rental parking Kenyan girls; they also employ 100 in Mukuru.
"We are humbled to be the first recipient of this award," said Pinto. "What we have accomplished has been a labor of love and of business, both, over the years. Most importantly, it has taken the care and commitment of thousands of others who joined with us, from students and teachers and community leaders to employees and our travelers."
"We are especially thrilled about what this new award means for the industry. Tourism Cares is travel and tourism's community for giving and volunteering, ohare airport thrifty car rental parking and it's important ohare airport thrifty car rental parking for any community to have exemplars to look to, for lessons and inspiration. I also look forward to seeing what Dennis, Lorna and the Micato-AmericaShare team does next. This award would not have been possible without the support of American Express, a leader in the travel industry ohare airport thrifty car rental parking and communities around the world," said Mike Rea, CEO of Tourism Cares.

How we use your email Fodor's may use your e-mail address to send you relevant information on site updates, account european travel package changes, and offers. For more information about your privacy and protection, please review our full Privacy european travel package Policy .
I was talking to the Hertz agent here in Australia and he mentioned all cars listed on their website are automatic unless other wise stated; apparently most car rentals in the USA are automatic?? is this correct?
He also mentioned full insurance of the vehicle is by law covered in the cost of the rental. I'd like to confirm this , as I read an article on the internet advising to take out full cover to be sure of any mishaps. This article may have been old not sure. Can someone also please confirm that full bodily and vehicle insurance cover is a requirement of rental in the USA and is automatically included in the cost of hire/rental?
Essentially european travel package all rental european travel package cars in the US are automatic - since byy far most of the cars on the road are automatic and many drivers don;t now how to drive standard shift. The only way you could get a standard shift car is to rent some sort of expensive sports car from a specialty agency.
I think if you book as an Australan outside of the US, the insurance is included. Be sure your confirmation says this. Otherwise you can get insurance at the counter or from a third party site. I'm afraid I don't know the real answer here.
Sorry - credit cards outside the US usually do NOT cover insurance for rental cars as part of their service. Even US cards have different standards of what they cover - based on type of card, issuer, and level (plain, gold, platinum, black, etc).
Foreign travelers aren't european travel package getting insurance from their credit cards (well, they may be depending on the card). They're getting it from the car-rental company, which bundles the insurance european travel package with the rental fee.
There are also a lot of travel agencies in Australia that can bundle insurance with the car-rental. The thing I'm just not sure of is what happens when you book directly with Hertz, but I've read that non-Americans are usually quoted a rate that's inclusive european travel package of insurance. This may depend on the company. If you're not sure, you can always call Hertz directly.
I rent cars in the US and pay for loss collison damage waiver, personal european travel package insurance, theft protection etc, the whole nine yards plus any excess (eg if you are liable for the first xx amount of damage you can pay an excess or deductible so you are not liable for anything). You can book directly european travel package with Hertz or whoever, it doesnt matter, european travel package if you look at Hertz.com they list the payable extras so you can see if loss damage or CDW is included or not, same as unlimited mileage etc. I booked my car thru autoeurope and ended up with an Alamo car. I take everything being offered, the US is the last place I want to be with inadequate cover.
It is usually better to rent the car in your own country - where they often offer bargain rates that include both taxes and all-inclusive insurance (collision, personal injury an deductible). While in the US these are typically all on top of the price you are quoted.
The only vehicle I have rented was in France last year, and they are the opposite; most vehicles are manual and you pay extra for an automatic vehicle. They also charge 6 euro a day environmental fee for the first 6 days as they consider automatic vehicles to be less efficient.
When I used Hertz in France I took out full cover with Hertz themselves and they didn't even inspect the vehicle in my presence, presumedly because they weren't in a position to be claiming anything against me anyway.
What was surprising to me when I posted initially was how much cheaper it was for a small vehicle with full cover in comparison to the one in europe, hence my post asking for information about full cover.
Car rental is less expensive in the US, compared to Europe. Sometimes you cannot pay for the excess at time of booking but when you collect european travel package the car you might be asked if you want additional insurances, which I usually take.
And yes, travel insurance is also more expensive because of the medical cover, there is one price for worldwide exc US/CA and another for US/CA and usually you have to make sure the cover is for several million $$.
Many things are much cheaper in the US than in europe. Typically car rental is much cheaper - since it's our primary transit (we really don't have a viable train system). Also, cars cost much less here than they do in europe (not sure if because the market is bigger or because foreign makers have to compete with US car prices - but a Japanese car in the US often costs less than it does in Japan).
Definitely rent ahead of time from OZ. Americans usually either use their personal auto insurance or credit card coverage when renting at home. Those aren't options for most foreign visitors and you can get MUCH better deals renting from home . . . especially if you are doing a one-way drop off.
Car hire in USA is lots cheaper than Europe. We have hired cars in USA,prior to visiting, using the web sites available I.e. Expedia etc. The details of the rental show what is included, collision damage waiver etc. Usually the 'Gold' package covers everything. The car hire desk when one picks up the car will try to sell you further insurance (they are on commission) which you do not need. Don't be conned into buying it. Always pay with your credit card for cover if anything goes amiss with your booking.

EXPERT TIP:   If you re renting for 3 days or more, check to see if a weekly rental is actually chea

There are A LOT of options when renting a car - and a lot of ways to get a good price (or get ripped off if you don't know what you're doing)! Here is the exact process I use every single time I rent a car to ensure I get the best price.
Chase s Ultimate Rewards Portal road travel directions not only allows you to use your Chase points to book a car rental if you want (every point is worth 1.25 cents), but it also gives you great deals on car rentals if you want to pay cash.
You ll need to have a Chase Ultimate Rewards account to be able to access the prices.  The easiest way to get a Chase Ultimate Rewards account is to open a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink Plus card, my favorite personal and business credit cards, respectively.
In my experience, Rentalcars.com , Kayak.com , and Carrentals.com are the three best aggregator sites for car rentals with any stipulations you want (one-way rentals, rentals anywhere in the world, etc.).
EXPERT TIP:   If you re renting for 3 days or more, check to see if a weekly rental is actually cheaper in total price than a 3 or 4 day rental.  If it is, choose to rent the car for a week and just drop it off early.
Expert Tip:   Renting cars from non-airport locations can oftentimes save you up to 50% and be more convenient if you aren t flying in.  If possible, make sure to check all the rental locations in a city versus just the main airport location.
Nice post. It s frustrating that I can book really good deals on flights and find all kinds of stuff but the rental car world seems like the wild west or a 3rd world bizarre. One trick I ve used it to try and leverage status road travel directions matching via credit cards and other programs to get better status with the big 3 rental companies so I get faster service and some upgrades. Beyond that I try to avoid renting at the airport location as the taxes and fee s are much higher. Many times you can get a cab to a nearby off airport office and rent the car much cheaper overall. I also have gotten much cheaper rentals at low cost vendors like Advantage and Fox at the cost of having to wait in line at a counter for the rental process.
@believemywords- Yeah, rental cars are definitely road travel directions a whole different ballgame. I like your suggestions though, and I agree 100% with going to non-airport locations. The prices can be as much as 50% off.
So far, I ve had great experience using AutoSlash.com. I book using Travelocity or the rental website, then enter the info into AutoSlash for it to track. They automatically email you when they find a lower rate so you can rebook. road travel directions On an upcoming rental next week, Autoslash just saved me about $180 on a 5 day rental! Of course, you can t book a pre-paid, non-refundable rate if you want to take advantage of this, just FYI.
@swnofilmerGardner- Autoslash is an awesome tool to use as well. I don t have tons of experience with it, which is why I didn t include it, as well as because you can t book pre-paid, non-refundable stuff. But definitely worthwhile road travel directions for a lot of situations.
I am not sure if EXPERT TIP: If you’re renting for 3 days or more, check to see if a weekly rental is actually cheaper in total price than a 3 or 4 day rental. If it is, choose to rent the car for a week and just drop it off early. is accurate. My understanding is if a rental is returned earlier than what was originally booked, the rate will be recalculated to the amount of time that was actually used with the car. This would mean that a weekly rental of 5-7 days could default to the daily rate if the car was returned after only 2 or 3 days. I am interested in hearing input from other readers if this situation has applied to them as well
@Chuck- I m also interested to hearing other people s experiences, because for me, I ve always been able to get the weekly rental, return road travel directions it early, road travel directions and not pay anything more. In fact, there have been times when I ve rented it at the weekly rate (let s say $140, or $20 a day) and then when I returned it, I ve actually been able to talk them in to giving me some money back (in this instance, road travel directions if I returned it after 5 days, I would get $40 back- $20 2).
@John Brew- Good to know, I ve used Holiday Autos before and had good deals with them, for sure. I believe all of them show up on Kayak and the other aggregator sites. road travel directions Yeah, Priceline is also ok to use, I just personally don t because I like to have more control.
Also try carrentalsavers.com and BJ s or Costco if a member. Capitalone.com if you have the card. Don t forget that if you pay with points, partially or in whole, the collision damage waiver won t be in effect.
Yes, I frequently use carrentalsavers.com as they give rental road travel directions prices with several programs and discounts which are easily added in. Also you do not need to pay for the rental up front. I ve also gotten good prices using the Capital One portal. I sometimes use BJ s especially if I m renting from Alamo and want to add an unrelated driver for free.
@Clare road travel directions N- I ve never tried carrentalsavers.com, so thanks for the tip. I ve heard the Cap1 portal is good, I think it s usually equivalent to the Chase one. Which makes it a good option for people without Chase cards.
Great post, and very helpful information! I would like to add one more possible tip. After checking all your options and getting a feel for your best price, I then check out hotwire.com. If you don t mind which rental car provider you will be riding with, sometimes you can get a price lower than other places. We were able to get about a $10 a day rental in Miami, and with the saving, upgrade it to the convertible road travel directions Camaro SS for the drive down to Key West. The price ended up being about the same if I had booked an economy car.
@Christian Nommesen- Great advice. If you don t mind which one you get (and I don t), then you can go to Hotwire or Priceline and put in a rate lower than what you found. road travel directions Sometimes, you ll get great savings. Thanks for sharing!
I travel to ski a couple of times each winter. I find it extremely difficult to determine if your car has 4 WD or not. It is a necessity to get over Donner Summit in California or you have to buy chains. Just because it is a Ford Explorer or Toyota RAV4 does not mean it has 4WD in Calif. To ensure you are getting a 4WD you have to reserve a gas guzzling land yacht that costs more than your lodging and ski passes do for the week.
@Bill Maloney- I would think the easiest way to know if it has 4WD is to call up the rental car company and try to book it through them. If it s not showing online if it is 4WD, or it can t guarantee road travel directions it, then maybe calling road travel directions them up is the best option. I ve never needed one with 4WD, so unfortunately, I don t have a ton of experience with that.
My comment is based on two accidents in rentals cars, neither being my fault. Both cost me considerable money though, so I recommend NEVER use points or miles to pay the rental fee. Then you cannot use the primary insurance that the credit card could provide. In both accidents, I ended up paying for admin fees and loss of rental income while the repair was done, even though road travel directions I wasn t responsible for the repair cost itself. Read the fine print in the rental contract and you will see it spelled out.
Alan C says. Ask for discounts such as AAA or AARP, etc. Also ask if there is any way to get the car cheaper. The answers I received were useful. 1. Car rentals have unlimited miles. SOMETIMES road travel directions you can get a car with limited miles such as 1000 miles or less with Huge savings. 2.Sometimes they don t tell you about promotions but if you ask if there are any promotions, they will tell you and the savings can be Huge.
@Alan C- Yep, you re right. NEVER hurts to ask, and I think the 1000 miles or less can be extremely useful for a lot of people who need a rental car for only a few days or for just around town. Thanks!
This is certainly a great chain of smart ideas for beating down car rental costs. I rent for a month to 3 months at a crack. I ve found that searching an area for smaller firms that rent older vehicles has been my best bet. I admit the products often are far from attractive, road travel directions but I have saved as much as 50% over the best prices I could find using many of the procedures and sources listed here. As an example Airport truck car rental in San Diego will pick you up and drop you off with no extra air port taxes or fees. Don t accept their first quote, negotiate for a better price on the phone.
@getrude- An excellent idea. I ve found that this holds true with most things when you are renting long term. Usually, you can get great prices, whether it be on cars, accommodations, or anything else. And if you are renting road travel directions longer term, you can always negotiate. I talked someone down from almost 70% once on an apartment in Croatia because we were staying long term, and both of us were happy!
Also, if you reserve months ahead of your trip, keep checking rates as you get closer to the time of your trip. The rates may drop and you can book at the new lower rate and cancel the old, more expensive reservation.
Hi, I live in China, travel to Netherlands often. I can fully recommend to rent a car at BB L carrental. The ONLY no hassle road travel directions car rental company I ve come across My experiences in New York, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Toronto, Beijing always every time I end up paying more than I thought I should and still running a several thousands dollars road travel directions risk as others have demonstrated so clearly.
BB L Carrental and this is NOT an advertisement! I m only a very happy customer offers: free mileage, no penalty charges for early or late delivery, full coverage including Collision Damage Waiver, free GPS for Europe, and they charge your card AFTERWARDS. road travel directions Best of it they deliver the car to the airport, and pick it up at YOUR convenience (call 1 hour ahead of arrival).
I ve been using them for the last 5 years. Once I forgot my wallet and they shipped it for me back to China. Once my daughter helped me wash the car, with sand instead of soap And she was doing that for full 5 minutes before I noticed. Da

The EEOC filed suit in September 2002 (EEOC v Alamo Rent -A-Car, LLC; ANC Rental Corporation, CIV 02

PHOENIX In a legal victory for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity car rentals los angeles Commission (EEOC), Arizona Federal District Court Judge Roslyn Silver ruled that Alamo Car Rental committed post-9/11 backlash discrimination based on religion when it terminated car rentals los angeles a Somali customer sales representative in December 2001 for refusing to remove her head scarf during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Alamo Car Rental is owned and operated by Ft. Lauderdale-based Alamo Rent-A-Car LLC and ANC Rental Corporation a subsidiary of Vanguard Car Rental USA Inc.
In the first post-9/11 backlash case brought by the EEOC s Phoenix District Office, the court took the unusual step of finding the religious discrimination so clear cut based on the pleadings that it did not need to be resolved by a jury.
It is extremely rare that a court will find discrimination based solely on the pleadings, said Mary Jo O Neill, Regional Attorney for the Phoenix District Office. car rentals los angeles The court found undisputed evidence that Alamo should have approved this employee s request to wear her head scarf as a religious accommodation or proposed a reasonable alternative.
According car rentals los angeles to Judge Silver s ruling: It is undisputed that the accommodation car rentals los angeles Alamo offered Ms. Nur required her to remove her head covering during Ramadan when she served clients car rentals los angeles but still required her to serve clients, making it impossible for Ms. Nur to avoid removing her head covering at work. Accordingly, Alamo s proposal would have failed to accommodate Ms. Nur s religious conflict and was not a reasonable accommodation.
The EEOC filed suit in September 2002 (EEOC v Alamo Rent -A-Car, LLC; ANC Rental Corporation, CIV 02 1908 PHX ROS) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona only after exhausting its conciliation efforts to reach a voluntary settlement.
Prior to being fired, charging party Bilan Nur had worked for Alamo since 1999. EEOC s lawsuit asserted that the company had permitted her to wear a head covering for religious reasons during Ramadan in 1999 and 2000. However, following car rentals los angeles the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Alamo refused to permit Ms. Nur to observe this particular religious belief during December of 2001.
Alamo claimed that it told Ms. Nur that the company dress code prohibited wearing of a scarf. Notwithstanding Alamo s representation, the EEOC found that the company had no such policy. When Ms. Nur refused to remove the religious garment, Alamo disciplined, suspended and terminated her employment following consultation with regional level human resources car rentals los angeles officials and in-house counsel.
I am very pleased that the judge believed car rentals los angeles that Alamo s actions were illegal, said Ms. Nur, who now resides in Minneapolis. No person should ever have to be forced to choose between her religion and her job. Alamo appeared to understand this before the horrible attacks of September 11, 2001. Then something changed. This has been an incredible nightmare for me and I am very grateful to the EEOC for its efforts to correct this wrong.
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employers from discriminating against individuals because of their religion in hiring, firing, and other terms and conditions of employment. Employers must reasonably accommodate employees' car rentals los angeles sincerely held religious beliefs or practices unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the employer. A reasonable religious accommodation is any adjustment to the work environment that will allow the employee to practice his religion
Unless a religious accommodation imposes car rentals los angeles an undue hardship, employers are strongly advised to look favorably on such requests, said EEOC Regional car rentals los angeles Attorney car rentals los angeles O Neill. Given the strong facts of this case, we are surprised that a large employer as sophisticated as Alamo has repeatedly refused to stand up and take responsibility for such a conspicuous violation of law.
Chester V. Bailey, District Director for the EEOC Phoenix office, said: As the court found, Alamo dismissed the requests by Ms. Nur for accommodation without consideration, in violation of the mandates of Title VII. This decision was made at the corporate Human Resources level apparently in consultation with in-house counsel., Alamo s violation is particularly noteworthy given that one of the individuals involved in the disciplinary action wore a cross at work.
According car rentals los angeles to its web site (www.alamo.com), Alamo Rent-A-Car is one of the nation s largest rental car companies operating in 1,000 locations nationwide and internationally. The Alamo Rent-A-Car brand is owned and operated by Vanguard Car Rental USA Inc., a worldwide car rentals los angeles organization with more than 3,200 locations in 83 countries and a domestic fleet of more than 217,000 car rentals los angeles automobiles.
The EEOC is the federal government agency that enforces the nation s anti-discrimination laws in the workplace based on race, color, sex (including sexual harassment and pregnancy), religion, car rentals los angeles national origin, retaliation, age and disability. Further information about the Commission is available on the agency s web site at www.eeoc.gov.
