Over the Memorial Day holiday a few of my best girlfriends and I took a four-day weekend getaway to our family s cabin in Angel Fire, New Mexico. It has been a really long time since any of us had taken a proper road trip, so we decided to load up the car and make the 12 hour drive!
I would not recommend packing the car to the point of explosion, but when we were loading the car, the four of us just couldn t find anything hotel reservations paris in our piles of food, fashionable hiking gear, and other important items (like the coffee maker that took up the back middle seat for the whole drive) that we were willing to part with.

We decided hotel reservations paris on three day hikes while we were there that I would highly recommend trying out if you are staying in the Taos or Angel Fire area.
We did this hike the afternoon that we arrived in Angel Fire. It is a beginner level hike, with little incline throughout the hike until you get toward the top of the trail. My family has been doing this hike since I was in elementary school, and it is a personal favorite hotel reservations paris of mine because you hike along a beautiful creek the entire time that has several small waterfalls right next to the trail. Access the trail by parking near Mile Marker 292 on US Highway 64. The trailhead is to the left of the parking area (when facing the trail) where the creek meets the highway.
If there is one hike on this list that I recommend over the others, it is this one, it is amazing. The hike is uphill most of the way on the first leg, with almost 3,000 feet of elevation gain, so it is a pretty challenging hike. There is a creek that runs along the trail for most of the hike, and the trail takes you through several magnificent groves of Aspen trees. We chose to stop and eat lunch in a meadow about 3/4 of the way up the trail, where you could see Wheeler hotel reservations paris Peak (the tallest peak in Taos at 13,159 feet) in the distance. Access the trail from Taos Ski Valley road near Mile Marker 11. There are several signs on the road to show where the trailhead is.
After doing Italianos on the second day, we were all in need of a hike that wasn t uphill hotel reservations paris the entire way, and this one definitely fit the bill. The first 4 miles of the hike are relatively flat, but after that there is some moderate hotel reservations paris elevation gain and a few sets of switchbacks. If you are in to seeing stunning open meadows hotel reservations paris and a rushing creek, this is a great option. Access the trail head from the Columbine Campground outside of Red River. There is a parking area in the back of the campground where the trail starts.
There are very few dining options in Angel Fire and Red River, so I would suggest going in to Taos if you would like to eat dinner out. Taos has a charming downtown pueblo area that is full of art galleries, Native American artifact hotel reservations paris and turquoise jewelry stores, hotel reservations paris and spicy Northern New Mexican cuisine.

Any favorite hikes right around Angel Fire? What I love about Angel Fire is that it is so undeveloped and uncommercialized. However, hotel reservations paris that is what I don t like about it too. So much gorgeous hotel reservations paris terrain but really hard to obtain info on great hikes. We love Wheeler Peak, just wish there were more known trails like this one.
