Jan. 22 nd - Knit Flicks Program - Doctor Zhivago Theater Mack at the Cayuga zoom airline flights Museum, 203 Genesee St., Auburn . The Cayuga Museum will show the 1965 blockbuster Doctor Zhivago on Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00 p.m. in Theater Mack. It is the first in a new monthly series, Knit Flicks, in which the museum will show a movie with the lights on low and the audience seated at tables -- so that people can knit or stitch while watching. Doors will open at 5:00, so people can come early and chat about their current projects. $3 admission.
In the top ten highest-grossing films of all time, Doctor Zhivago is based on the novel of the same name by Boris Pasternak, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1958. Set during WWI and the Russian Revolution, the film showcased Omar Sharif and Julie Christie as star-crossed lovers. Doctor Zhivago is more than 3 hours long, so there will be an intermission. Jan. 23 rd Real Life Reels - Auburn Public Theater, 108 Genesee St., Auburn. Cayuga Centers is partnering with Auburn Public Theater to sponsor four nights of award-winning short films and community discussions addressing issues facing today's adolescents and families. Called "Real Life Reels," the films will touch on such topics as bullying, zoom airline flights teen depression, and self-destructive behaviors. Each event will have a host moderator, and community panelists.
Jan. 24 th Before Midnight - Auburn Public Theater, 108 Genesee St., Auburn . Nine years after Before Sunset, their highly-regarded sequel to Before Sunrise, director Richard Linklater reteams with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy for Before Midnight, which finds their characters together raising twin daughters. Jesse (Hawke) attempts to maintain a relationship with Hank, his teenage son from his first marriage, but their bond is strained even though Hank has just spent the summer with his dad and step-family. Meanwhile, Celine (Delpy) must make a difficult decision about her career. As with Before Sunset, Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy share credit for the screenplay. Before Midnight screened at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival as well as the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. Jan. 26 th Sunday Music Series: John Dean - Auburn Public Theater, 108 Genesee St., Auburn. John Dean is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter, best known for his contribution to the Sammy Award winning Dean Brothers Band, a 1970s group known throughout the Northeast concert and bar circuit for their strong, complex vocal harmonies. The band's first album, As They Are, rose to Number 4 on the Central New York music charts, and two of their singles were Top 10 hits, receiving daily local airplay. Feb. 1 st - Robert Buffum; Jayhawker, Spy and Murderer - Ward O'Hara Agricultural Museum Dr. Joseph F. Karpinski Sr. Educational Center, 6880 E. Lake Rd., Auburn . Local Historian John Lamphere will present a presentation on Robert Buffum. He is an Auburn native and is buried in Soules Cemetery in Sennett, New York.
He was a jayhawker, a spy and a murderer. He was with Andrews and they stole a train. Walt Disney made a movie on this man and his experiences. If you have never attended one of John's presentations you are in for a treat. He is an exceptional speaker and a well known local historian.
