In a news conference queensgate hotel london Monday, he stressed that students have made a lot of progress over the past decade, and could make even bigger gains if state lawmakers, as ordered by the Washington Supreme Court, continue to raise the amount the state spends on public schools.
All public-school students in Washington take state tests each spring. queensgate hotel london Reading and math exams are given in grades 3-8. Students in grades 4, 7 and 10 take writing exams, and those in grades 5 and 8 take science tests, too. In high school, there also is a 10th-grade reading test and end-of-course exams in algebra, geometry and biology.
This is the third year for the latest queensgate hotel london version of the tests and they soon will be replaced, too. Plans call for phasing in a new set of exams tied to a new set of learning standards known as the Common Core. Washington is among the states that have pledged to use those new standards, which cover reading and math.
The biggest score increase this year was in seventh-grade math, where 63.7 percent of students passed, up 4.5 percentage points from last year. The biggest drop was in seventh-grade queensgate hotel london reading, with 68.7 percent of students passing, down 2.5 percentage points from 2012.
Counting students who made it to their senior year, about 90 percent passed the required reading, writing and math exams, or alternatives. But Dorn also noted that number excludes about 3,000 students who dropped out earlier in high school.
As usual, this year s results varied by school and district. Seattle Public Schools, for example, continued to beat the state average in nearly queensgate hotel london all grades and subjects, and to increase its lead in many areas, especially eighth-grade math and sixth-grade reading.
One of the bright spots was Rainier Beach High School, where the reading passage rate for 10th-graders shot up more than 16 percentage points, which principal Dwayne Chappelle attributed in part to the fact the school has been preparing to implement the demanding International Baccalaureate (IB) program when school starts next week.
The performance of students in Southeast Seattle also improved more than that of students in other parts of the city. Superintendent Jos Banda attributed the improvement to a combination of factors from leadership to a concerted effort in many schools to analyze students weaknesses and get them the help they need.
In third-grade queensgate hotel london reading, queensgate hotel london the Tukwila School District had one of the biggest gains across the state, its passage rate increasing by about 20 percentage points. It was one of the leaders in third-grade math as well.
Some say the lackluster scores statewide were no surprise. Dorn even went as far as to say that holding scores steady could be seen as good news, given that state per-pupil spending has declined in recent years.
But, like Dorn, many observers expressed concern about continuing gaps in performance among different ethnic groups. queensgate hotel london In general, African-American, Latino and Native American students lag far behind their white and Asian classmates.
Others say they expect to see bigger gains soon, given that state lawmakers this year voted to make a significant increase in education spending, queensgate hotel london and soon likely will have to add even more to satisfy the state Supreme Court, which has ruled the state has not lived up to its constitutional duty to adequately fund public education.

Taking your first major trip through Europe is a big step for most student travelers. What awaits bull hotel california you is one of the world s most diverse destinations; a land with dozens of languages, cultures, and a plethora of possible bull hotel california places to visit. In most European countries, train travel remains the most comfortable, relaxing, and affordable bull hotel california way to get from point A to point B.
There are many rail pass deals in Europe that will allow you to travel to most countries on the continent. The two major companies are Eurail and InterRail . Some of their passes allow you to travel as much as you like within only one country for the duration of the pass, while others allow you to travel in a small number of countries, and still others allow you to travel in as many as thirty countries.
Some student travelers on their way to Europe prefer to have at least a flexible itinerary so they are sure to see some of the continent s best-known attractions and cities. Particularly if your time in Europe is limited to a month or less, you will likely end up getting bull hotel california to a lot more places if you have a rail pass and an accompanying itinerary. Once you have purchased the rail pass, however, having a solid plan and allowing bull hotel california for only a very small degree of flexibility is essential, otherwise you could actually end up spending much more money than you would if you were to simply get your tickets as you go.
A lot of people don t like this pressure of advanced planning and would rather be able to travel freely, making their minds up as they go along regarding their next destination. The classic backpackers would probably never dream of getting a rail pass and, instead, would prefer to wander spontaneously until their money ran out or they found a job somewhere to keep them in a place they like a little longer. There is a lot to be said for this kind of travel and, contrary to the impression you might get from meeting people staying in big hostels in major cities, this breed of traveler is still very much alive.
InterRail offers a one-country pass and a global pass. The price of the one-country pass varies greatly depending on the country you choose. The cheapest destination is Turkey, starting at €36, and the most expensive ones are Great Britain, France and Germany, starting at €139. Global passes cover thirty countries including almost all of Western Europe and much of Central and Eastern Europe bull hotel california as well. Student prices for people 25 years old or younger start at €175 for a ten-day pass including five days of travel. Unlimited passes are available for 15 or 22 days or one month.
Eurail has single-country passes starting at €37. Rail passes for 3, 4 or 5 countries start at €183 while passes for all countries covered by Eurail (23 in total) start at €287. There are passes for unlimited travel in any given time frame or just ten to fifteen days out of two months. (Check online for latest rates and details.)
The more time you spend on the move, the more value for money you will get out of the rail pass. For those who want to do a whistle-stop city tour in Europe, a rail pass can save a great deal of money, particularly in countries like the UK where rail tickets are among the most expensive in the world.
Purchasing tickets individually, rather than having a rail pass, can be much cheaper if you are not planning to be on the move a great deal and/or you are spending more time in each country. In some countries, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, domestic train tickets are often very cheap. For example, bull hotel california you can cross from one side of Czech Republic to the other (about five hours) with the extremely comfortable Regiojet trains for around €10! Slow trains, which stop in many small towns along the way, tend to be cheap in most of Europe.
If you are planning to spend most of your time in Eastern Europe, a rail pass will rarely be cost-effective enough to make it worthwhile. In many Eastern European countries, the most economical (and sometimes the only) option is to do exactly as the locals do – purchase train tickets as you go. Among the countries which may not be covered are Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, bull hotel california Ukraine, Russia and some of the Balkan countries. If you are planning a trip to any of these countries, you will need to buy point-to-point rail tickets locally or travel by bus.
You should also budget for unexpected costs which may arise. For example, if you are just transiting a country, the transit country will still need to be covered by your rail pass, even if you don't get off the train at all. If it isn't, you will need to pay extra to the fare collector on board.
Also, when you have your rail pass, you will still, in most countries, have to reserve a seat or couchette before you set off. In some countries, you will have to pay a small additional reservation fee for each train trip you take. Rail passes generally only cover you for second-class travel, and upgrading your seat will also cost extra.
So consider these two factors carefully – how much you want to plan, and how much you want to spend – and you will be far more likely to make the right decisions about your student train travel through Europe.

As players in this fun game of ours, we often get caught up in the idea of maximizing our points and getting the most value out of them. That usually means redeeming for expensive hotels or business class and first class airfare that can give us 5+ CPM. But is that all that matters?
I've been lucky enough to travel quite a bit. I haven't seen as many countries as Rick, but at 23 I've seen my fair share and plan to see many more as the years go by. Luckily I discovered this hobby, which has allowed me to travel even more at a young age. But sometimes I wonder to myself why I waste so many points cruises to europe and miles on business class tickets at this point. Sure, coach isn't as comfortable but I can certainly deal with it at this point in my life. I've been flying since I was a year old, and up until a few years ago I was perfectly fine flying coach across the Atlantic to Europe.
A coach ticket to Europe is about 60,000 miles – give or take some, depending on the program. Business Class is 100,000 miles roundtrip! That's 67% more miles! Thinking of the bigger picture, I could take 5 trips to Europe in coach or I could take 3 trips in Business Class for the same number of miles. Maybe I won't get 5 CPM with a coach ticket, but I'll see more places and at some point you have to decide which one is more important.
Don't get me wrong, I think there is definitely a place for Business Class awards. I've never taken a 14+ hour trip from New York to Asia, but I can't imagine it's fun in coach. Yet plenty of people do fly it every day, so I'm sure it can't be too bad unless you're cruises to europe flying it every week. But special trips like anniversaries cruises to europe or honeymoons? I can't fault anyone for splurging for Business Class to celebrate. People who have been all over the world already? They don't need to take as many trips as I do – they can settle for the 3 trips instead of the 5 trips for 300,000 miles. People like me though, who have so many places they want to see and only so much time to see them? I think I can deal with coach for a little while longer.
Some of you probably think I'm crazy and maybe I'll think I'm crazy the next time I fly coach, but I just wanted to remind cruises to europe everyone that it's not always about the CPM calculation. Sometimes, being able to go on a trip on miles and points that you couldn't have afforded otherwise cruises to europe is all this game needs to be about. Sometimes it's about being able to see the world and not about how you get there or where you stay.
This is my last post for the site and I just wanted to say that I've enjoyed writing for the site. It's been great to interact with all the readers and read your comments and suggestions about all the different topics I've written about. cruises to europe I've really learned a lot from all of you, so thank you!
I have thought cruises to europe for a while that there needs to be a well informed cruises to europe blogger who focuses on the economy traveler. Maybe there s no money in that? Lots of pretty pictures of high end hotel rooms, lounges, and premium cabin seating have hardly any interest to me. The major blogs, like this one (I guess it s called Frugal Travel Guy after all), do have good information for us, but often seem to be heavily focused on the luxury end of the miles and points activity, and often the best strategies are quite different for the economy traveler.
As a foreign student, I have at least two RTs to Asia, and I was fine with coach all the time. Now I have enough points for biz class, I might try it once but I guess I ll stick with coach in the future. I just don t see any point burning A LOT more miles for some service that you won t pay much more to have it. You know sometimes it s just math game
Sorry to see you go, Bryce. I m not nearly as young as you, but I think it s a question of personal priorities. Those who have plenty of miles and points, and know they ll be getting plenty more, or who have only seriously limited time windows each year to travel for fun , can afford to burn them on premium travel. I personally would much rather go on several trips a year in economy rather than one or two in business.
Great article and very valid points. I ll be doing a family getaway with wife, daughter and son in law and grand kids (total 6) to Europe next year and were all flying coach on aircraft equipped with window/aisle seating. The following year I ll be doing the same thing with my wife, son and his wife and 2 more grand kids and currently have more than enough miles to do it all in coach on United, USAIR or Delta.
Good points all. I have a couple of 13-14 hour trips in E+ coming up and with luck they ll be just fine. But for my vacation in Europe next summer I m looking for business seats to give myself a treat. cruises to europe Right now I m earning the miles faster than I m burning them so I m declaring it worth it .
But like anything in life, it all depends. When you ve got to choose between 40K couch vs 100K business, as often is the case with American, that s one thing. When you re choosing between cruises to europe 60K vs 100k (United) that s another. And when you choose between 90K vs 100K (Sky Pesos) that s an entirely cruises to europe different cruises to europe animal.
cruises to europe Another thought. Flying in old FIrst on AA metal or Premium Business on LAN to South America cruises to europe cost the same amount of miles. Now, believe me, I will NOT waste my miles flying First on American. LAN quality, however, makes this choice a little more difficult.
So glad to see this post. I always fly coach, even NYC to Asia, and wish there were more blogs that were geared toward my kind of travel. All of them seem to be focused on airport cruises to europe lounges and showers in first class on Emirates. WHO NEEDS TO SHOWER ON THE PLANE??
I have a different philosophy than you (but also a different age). When I travel with my kids and my wife (we are 4) I travel coach. But if I am in a trip with just my wife, I use my points and miles like there is no tomorrow. I fly business or first class, and stay in the best hotels because those are the things I could not afford cruises to europe paying for and I want to really enjoy my time with my partner, and that includes not only visiting the places, but flying comfortable and staying in the nicest places with the best beds, services, etc.
I plan trips 2-3 years out, and if I have more points than I need for those trips then I start to look at business class or a nicer hotel. If I had more time off and more money, I would probably always fly coach and just travel more often. Every trip costs me money even if I m using points because cruises to europe I have to board the dogs and pay for meals ect so with lots of points and limited # of trips, it makes sense for me to fly business class at least on long flights (hawaii from the east coast).

In September 2008, we saw many beautiful places in Guatemala including the colonial town of Antigua where we hiked to the top of the same volcano that recently erupted. It was a strenuous trek that tested us, but once at the top it was an amazing site to behold. In addition to seeing the lava literally spewing from the side of Mt. Payaka, the view of the surrounding valleys, towns and other volcanoes was spectacular. Although the recent eruption did not result in the widespread economic devastation as did the volcano in Iceland, the personal hardships for the locals was much worse. After Antigua came Coban, augusta ga luxury car renting which was the waypoint before our next destination, a remote Mayan village called Santa Maria Tzeja located deep in the jungles of Guatemala. We had no idea just how remote until after we had endured the four-hour bone-jarring ride on the some of the roughest roads on the planet. The minivan designed to hold 15 people (including the driver) at one point had as many as 30 passengers with some of them sitting on top of the van along with our backpacks and other cargo. We arrived at Santa Maria Tzeja through a series of fortunate events. I met our host Randall Shea while he was visiting family in Central Florida several months before leaving on our trek. We kept in contact via email and made plans to stay with him and his family for a few days.
After arriving at what were told was our destination, the van driver stopped and unceremoniously deposited us along with our backpacks at the bottom of a small hill and pointed up, indicating where Randall lived. It had just rained and climbing the slippery, wet, muddy path with heavy backpacks was no easy task. As we soon learned, mud is synonymous with Guatemalan jungles. Randall and his beautiful family welcomed us like old friends. His wife, three daughters and newborn son lived like the other villagers in several modest structures with a separate kitchen facility. They carried water from a cistern that collected rain from the roofs, and had the standard multi-hole privy out back. Electricity was supplied to the village once a day for several hours by a generator that ran mostly to power the computers for the nearby school. Even in this remote part of the world, access augusta ga luxury car renting to the Internet is almost a birthright. During our stay, each meal was prepared by a different member of the village, which gave us an up-close look at daily life. The food was plentiful, healthy, delicious and always cooked over an open wood fire. Randall was our interpreter and we learned so much from our gentle hosts including how they dealt with challenges, tragedies, heath care and even cattle rustlers.
In the 1970s, a Spanish priest named Padre Luis founded the village. With the backing of the government, he and a handful of people hiked to a remote section of Guatemalan jungle to build what eventually became Santa Maria Tzeja. After several prosperous years, a change augusta ga luxury car renting in the government reversed all of their accomplishments, and in the early '80s resulted in the torching of the village and the massacre of more than a dozen villagers. The army rounded up most of the remaining villagers. All were imprisoned and many were tortured. As with so many wars, the villagers were caught in the middle between government troops and guerrillas, each demanding their allegiance. The horror did not end until a peace treaty was signed in 1996, and the villagers were allowed to return and rebuild their devastated lives. Village health care was simple and efficient. The two part-time health care workers had a simple augusta ga luxury car renting map with a grid of the village augusta ga luxury car renting on the clinic wall, which indicated where each resident lived. In addition, they had a paper ledger that listed every villager with their corresponding medical status. They recorded if someone in the household was pregnant, when young children needed shots and any other medical conditions that should augusta ga luxury car renting be monitored. The health care providers were always short on supplies, but never lacked a smile or the willingness to help. During the stay we also learned that vigilante justice is alive and well. Several months before arriving, cattle rustlers had acquired two new stock trucks and had stolen augusta ga luxury car renting a number augusta ga luxury car renting of prized bovine from a farmer in a neighboring village. The locals were on to them and the thieves fled in the direction of Santa Maria Tzeja. Apparently they were not the smartest bulls in the herd, as there was only one way in and one way out, and the bad guys had unwittingly trapped themselves.
Word was passed on to the villagers in Santa Maria Tzeja and they apprehended the rustlers as soon as they arrived. After unloading the cattle, the villagers augusta ga luxury car renting immediately torched the two new vehicles and held the thieves until the authorities arrived. The trucks were sacrificed for good reason. Based on previous augusta ga luxury car renting experience, they knew a well-placed bribe would have allowed the rustlers to escape with their trucks and possibly the cattle as well. Even if the cattle augusta ga luxury car renting were returned to their rightful owner, the thieves would still have the means to continue augusta ga luxury car renting their unsavory augusta ga luxury car renting trade. augusta ga luxury car renting The only evidence remaining of the event were two charred and rusting augusta ga luxury car renting hulks. Not surprisingly, according to Randall cattle rustling was at an all time low in their region. Next week's article will feature other places we visited in Guatemala including the quaint lakeside town of Flores, the mystic Mayan ruins of Tikal and the working class towns along the way. The always-challenging teeth-rattling transportation system was half the adventure. Such is the life of a traveler. And remember . . . "Travel is the ultimate education."

Oklahoma City is the largest city in the state, as well as its political, cultural, and economic engine. The city is the nation's third largest city in land area (608 sq miles), just behind Jacksonville FL (759 sq miles) and way behind Anchorage AK (1698 sq miles). The city is the 29th largest city in population in the nation (506,132 in the 2000 census), and the largest city in the 5 "plains states" (Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota). After decades of suburban sprawl and an ill-fated downtown "urban renewal", former sitcom star world poker tour a 'sudden' burst of investment in the 1990s has given the city additional big city attractions as well as a pleasant quality of life that often is the envy if not surprise of visitors from other cities, making Oklahoma City more of a tourist destination in and of itself. Oklahoma's state capitol building is the only capitol former sitcom star world poker tour in the world with an oil well under it. Although its legal description is Capitol Site #1, it is referred to as Petunia #1 because it was originally drilled in the middle of a flower bed.
Oklahoma City is in the Frontier Country region former sitcom star world poker tour of Central Oklahoma, in the Southern Plains of North America . Contrary to popular belief, the geography is not flat and treeless (like in the true high plains) but rather gently rolling hills covered in places by dense low trees, shrubs, and grasses. The city is roughly bisected by the North Canadian River (recently partially renamed the Oklahoma River in a flight of civic exuberance). The North Canadian is not very impressive as rivers go; it was once substantial enough to flood every year, wreaking destruction on surrounding homes, until the 1940s when the Civilian Conservation Corps dammed the river and turned it into essentially a wide ditch for the next 50 years. In the 1990's, as part of the citywide revitalization project known as MAPS, the city built a series of low water dams, returning water to the portion of the river flows near downtown. The city also has three large lakes, Lake Hefner and Lake Overholser, in the northwestern quarter of the city, and the largest former sitcom star world poker tour - Lake Stanley Draper, in the sparsely populated far southeast of the city.
Will Rogers World Airport ( IATA : OKC ) [2] offers over 180 flights a day including non-stop service to over 30 cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Washington DC. The International airport (originally built in the 1960s) former sitcom star world poker tour has completed the first phase of a major expansion and modernization project and is attracting additional non-stop flights to the city.
Amtrak offers daily service to Fort Worth, Texas aboard the Heartland Flyer [3] line, which can be boarded at the Santa Fe Station in Bricktown. The Flyer has multiple connections to other regional Amtrak lines in Fort Worth. Plans have been proposed to expand the line north to Newton, KS and onward to Kansas City. The City of Oklahoma City recently joined other cities in voicing its support for such a connection.
Getting around Oklahoma City is ridiculously easy by car. If you're coming to OKC, you will likely want to either rent a car or plan on staying around downtown, because public transportation is rather limited. There is a pretty good bus system around downtown former sitcom star world poker tour with service to the airport and the cluster of museums and attractions in the northeastern part of the city, but if you want to really explore without renting a car, you'll either have to use the not too stellar bus system or call a cab.
If you happen to have or rent a car, then getting around OKC is very simple. The streets are laid out in a grid, with named streets running north and south and numbered streets running east and west. The main thing to remember when driving the city is that when you're on the north side, the numbered streets increase from south to north, while on the south side they increase from north to south. (NW 23rd street is a very different former sitcom star world poker tour place from SW 23rd street, and you don't want to get them confused.) Aside from that minor issue, navigation is a breeze- there are very few one way street mazes or "Texas Turnarounds" to worry about, and the interstates in town are usually not congested, except during rush hour and construction.
The city is reasonably bicycle-friendly in the Midtown former sitcom star world poker tour areas of Oklahoma City due to the numerous through former sitcom star world poker tour residential low-traffic streets. In other areas of the city, bicycle travel is more difficult due to the lack of low-traffic through streets.

Many of the attractions are located near downtown or on the north side of town. Highlights in downtown are Bricktown , the city's fast growing entertainment district and tourist showpiece, former sitcom star world poker tour the new Oklahoma City Museum of Art , home to the largest collection of Chihuly glass in the world as well as an arthouse/revival theater and a restaurant, and The Myriad Gardens , an impressive urban park with a 7 story botanical garden. North of the museum is the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum . The memorial is both one of the most visible attractions in the city as well as its saddest, which has posed some problems for the city's tourism department. The outdoor symbolic memorial is free and open 24 hours a day, while the very well done Memorial Museum (located in the former Journal Record Building next door) can be visited for a small fee.
Many of the neighborhoods in the immediate vicinity of Downtown are textbook examples of urban blight, but to the northwest of downtown is a cluster of interesting early 20th century neighborhoods near the campus of Oklahoma City University . The most notable former sitcom star world poker tour are The Paseo , a ramshackle artist colony located in a 1930s era urban neighborhood, and "Little Saigon" or as it's officially known, Asia District , home to the city's large Vietnamese and East Asian community. The Paseo was built in conscious imitation of Kansas City's Country Club Plaza in the early 20th century, but has since developed a gritty bohemian character that can feel like a breath of fresh air. Dozens of art galleries, restaurants, clothing stores and other related businesses are clustered in the area. Technically the Paseo is only comprised of a single street lined with deco Spanish revival buildings, but it has grown to encompass much of the surrounding neighborhood, including a stretch of storefronts on NW 23rd street, sort of the main street of the Northwest side.
West of The Paseo along Classen former sitcom star world poker tour Boulevard is the Asia District , home to the city's majority Vietnamese Asian community. former sitcom star world poker tour After the fall of Saigon in 1976, one of the cities former sitcom star world poker tour picked by the US government for the relocation of refugees was Oklahoma City. Since then, these initial refugees have been joined by later immigrants from both Vietnam and other southeast Asian nations, as well as by Vietnamese Americans from elsewhere in the country. One of the interesting things about Juneau and Alaska is the effect on public life of being such a geographically large state. The state legislature, for instance, car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 takes telephone testimony during its committee hearings. They have a state-wide car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 video conferencing system to facilitate government meetings and deliberations.
The climate in Juneau and the southeast panhandle is best described as a "cooler wetter version of Seattle." It is a mid-latitude oceanic climate in the southern car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 sections and a subarctic oceanic climate in the northern car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 parts. On an annual basis, car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 this is both the wettest and warmest part of Alaska with milder temperatures in the winter and high precipitation throughout the year. Juneau averages over 50 inches (1,270 mm) of precipitation a year, while other areas receive over 275 inches (6,990 mm).[7] This is also the only region in Alaska in which the average daytime high temperature is above freezing during the winter months.
Juneau is Alaska's capital, however you can't get there by road. Southeast Alaska is sandwiched between the rugged coastal mountain range and the Pacific Ocean. Constructing roads between many of the towns and cities of SE Alaska is prohibitively expensive and sometimes impossible. Only three towns (Haines, Skagway, and Hyder) car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 in the SE Panhandle car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 are connected car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 to a roadway to the lower 48 states (often called "down south"). Access to the rest (including Juneau) is only by air or by sea.
Juneau International Airport ( IATA : JNU ) is a public airport car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 located seven miles (11 km) northwest car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 of downtown Juneau. The closest port with a road connection is Haines, about a five-hour ride away from Juneau by regular ferry or a two-hour ride on one of the state's new catamaran ferries. The ferry system is the only way to transport a car to Juneau, short of shipping it up on a barge.
Juneau is a major port of call for cruise ships plying the Inside Passage, which bring several thousand visitors almost every day between May and September. The cruise ships typically dock just south of downtown Juneau in the following docking facilities, listed in order of distance from downtown Juneau:
The public Capital Transit [7] provides daily bus service for downtown Juneau and vicinity and charges $2.00 for travel in one direction. Route 3/4 serves the Mendenhall Valley, but can get you no closer than about a mile to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.

Mendenhall Glacier West Glacier Trail - For the more adventurous, the West Glacier trail which leads directly to the glacier (you can walk on it, but be careful car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 to stay away from crevasses!) and also to a look out. Get off the bus just past the Mendenhall Glacier Campground stop. The stop is called Montana Creek. Walk up the road to the car park at the end (around 2km) and you will see the trail-head. Stick to the path, maybe dropping down to the lake side to checkout the icebergs and grab some photos. Continue along the path, across several bridges and up some switchbacks with fixed cables. Soon you will come to fork in the path, the left is steep and heads to the lookout, the right goes downhill into some dense vegetation. Shortly into the right-hand trail you will come across a shelter slightly off the track. Continue car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 for several car rental in orlando fl for under age 25 miles along the track, taking care on the slippery rock areas. Eventually you will come to a break in the cliff where it is possible to scramble/climb to the top. Recommend taking crampons if you want to walk on the glacier, stay away from crevasses and don't fall in. There are usually guides walking people out there so watch where they walk. Return the way you arrived, the whole thing should take about 5 hours. Don't forget to sign out when you leave the area.
Several businesses offer helicopter rides which will take you from the city to Mendenhall Glacier, giving you a bird's eye view of the surrounding terrain, and some time on the ice itself. They're fairly expensive (about $200 per person and up, depending on the length of the excursion), but a remarkable experience that many consider well worth the price.

What an amazing wedding!!! We are so lucky to be part of Jennifer Aaron s gorgeous wedding at Palace hotel and to captare so many precious moments. The W Hotel San Francisco is a 31-story hotel with 404 guestrooms. Historically this hotel is expensive. los angeles animal shelter A low rate for the W SF is $159 to $179 per night. Rates most frequently hover around $219 to $249. San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center across the street frequently pushes rates into the $350 to $450 per night range.
Currently there is a Fantastic Suite promotion for a 700 square feet room with 2 full baths. Lower floor suites are $500 per night and upper floor suites are $575. The clause in the booking rate states:
The parking entrance is located on one-way Howard Street just past the fire station.   This is downtown San Francisco and the blare of sirens comes gratis with the territory. A Howard Street facing room will guarantee more siren noise.
I pulled in to Wheels. Valet attendants promptly surrounded our car. The hotel front desk had at least 8 separate guests los angeles animal shelter and couples waiting for check-in.   I joked with the parking attendant that I would be leaving los angeles animal shelter the hotel to park and probably get back to the hotel before Kelley could reach the front desk.
The cost of parking is the primary complaint I see in W San Francisco hotel reviews. Parking is $45 + 14% city tax; over $51 for the night. Hybrid cars get 50% parking rates. San Francisco hotels have outrageous parking fees. As always, my advice for parking with the Starwood Hotels in this area: W Hotel, St. Regis, Westin Market Street, and The Palace Hotel is to park at the Hearst Garage on Third Street and Stevenson. Hearst Garage charges a flat rate $20 for 24-hour parking, but no in-and-out privileges. The W Hotel is the farthest los angeles animal shelter Starwood los angeles animal shelter Hotel in SoMa district from the garage los angeles animal shelter at about 250 yards up Third Street. In other words, Hearst Parking is centrally located to these four Starwood Hotels, Marriott San Francisco, and Four Seasons.
Back at the hotel, Kelley was waiting and the line was down to one guest. She was surprised at how slowly the line had moved and the fact that a second staff person did not appear until people had been waiting for about ten minutes. We still waited five more minutes while the one guest at the counter had an extraordinarily long check-in time. The second staffer had already departed.
My reservation using a free weekend night was upgraded from a 300 square feet Wonderful Room on a lower floor to a 400 square feet (or so they claim) Fabulous Corner Room on the 26 th floor. Our luggage was already stacked on a hotel cart and sitting in the lobby.   There were no staffers in the lobby to assist with the luggage after receiving the room key. I pulled the cart to the elevator myself and headed to our 26 th floor room.
W Hotels are a sensory experience. Colorful lighting, aural ambience, and tactile entertainment are the trademarks of a W Hotel stay. The elevator ride has color, smells from fragrant sticks in the corner, and music.
The lobby has high ceilings and several couches and chairs for guests. I read in some other hotel reviews that internet is free access in the lobby but not free in the rooms. I will have to test out lobby internet wifi on a future trip.
San Francisco is my frequent hotel stop and I still get a thrill from the W Hotel room city views. The location across from Yerba Buena Gardens and Moscone Convention Center means about half the rooms have an open view across the southern and westerly los angeles animal shelter city landscape where few high-rise buildings block the view. Our "Fabulous" corner room at 2609 had windows with views from the northeast los angeles animal shelter to the southwest. Seating benches in front of each of the three windows maximized the utility of the room's los angeles animal shelter high rise urban setting.
los angeles animal shelter The room was incredibly bright on a clear sky day with abnormally high temperatures in the 90s throughout the entire city. We had driven through the city from Golden Gate Park where hundreds of shirtless guys and bikini-top clad women were heading to the first day of the three day Outside Lands Music festival. Parading bare skin is not unusual in San Francisco where nudity is tolerated to a large degree at public events, but walking around near bare due to the hot weather is a truly rare site for the regularly windy and fog-enveloped city of San Francisco.
Attention guests of St. Regis and W Hotels. Anyone los angeles animal shelter with working far-sighted vision can see the 120 yards from building to building. Standing naked in your room with blinds open is not too discreet.
My impression over the years is the W San Francisco hotel rooms are a bit small. On this stay I pulled out the measuring tape and found the room to be significantly smaller than the 400 square feet advertised on the website for a Fabulous room. If the room had been a linear shaped rectangle the measurements would be 14 ft. x 26 ft. for a 364 square feet room. Those were the longest coordinates in the room and the room design ate into some of that space.
The room was so far off the stated measurement that I wrote a note to the hotel General Manager stating my measurements for 2609 do not come anywhere near the 400 square los angeles animal shelter feet listed for Fabulous Rooms on the website. Actually the room is much closer to 300 square feet. Ceilings at 8 ft in most of the room provided more spaciousness than a typical hotel room.
I had a pleasant swim and the two staffers who came by and walked through the pool area did not inhibit my swimming at all.  The pool was so cool, literally when I entered, and figuratively as I settled los angeles animal shelter into the groove los angeles animal shelter of good music playing loudly over the stereo system in the pool area in the early morning hours.
A cool design feature is the symmetry of the spa tub when sitting and looking up. The spa pool is centered with the W building. The glass roof of the pool showed pink light illuminating the side of the W building.

The Property: Located in Midtown Manhattan, Dream is not your conventional hotel. The décor at Dream New York is very eclectic, and one should come in with the mindset to "escape the ordinary". Bath amenities from L Occitane and turn-down car rental glasgow airport service with an orange were a nice touch.
Cons : The décor is pretty out there . While I totally get this hotel is modern and edgy, some things were a little bizarre . Each floor has a large lighted mural that is displayed near the elevators. I was lucky enough to be on the 8 th floor which featured 3 unclothed car rental glasgow airport men. Other floors displayed women (also undressed), a large eye and one that looked like a child. The rooms are small and somewhat "clinical", especially when the blue lighting wasn't car rental glasgow airport on.
Who Should Go: This property is perfectly suited for solo travelers and couples looking for a romantic getaway in the city. While I did see a few children staying at the hotel, this isn't one I personally would book for a family vacation.

I saw a story on Reddit today that instantly reminded me of one of the more unique features of New York City. The town of Rjukan, which is normally covered in shadow for five months ireland car rentals a year, is installing a bunch of massive mirrors on an adjacent mountain to illuminate its town square during its darkest times. As the Popular Mechanics story points out, it's an attempt at a mood enhancer, and I think it will work. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing, and not just because ireland car rentals of its funny acronym, S.A.D. You need light in your life to be happy. It massages the brain in a pleasing way, even if overdoing ireland car rentals the sun-worship can be hell on your skin. The article notes that it's not a new idea, as the Italian village of Viganella has successfully used brushed steel mirrors to do the same thing since 2006. Want to know another place that harvests reflected sunlight to make people ireland car rentals feel good? The Dream Downtown Hotel in New York.
Prior to its debut in June of 2011, owner (and actor) Vikram ireland car rentals Chatwal commissioned a top-to-bottom redesign of the iconic '60s Albert C. Ledner building, featuring 316 guest rooms and suites and a variety of restaurants and bars including PH-D Rooftop Lounge and The Beach at Dream Downtown . The Beach is essentially a pool bar, but the pool, which is sandwiched between two tall buildings, wouldn't normally get much sunlight were it not for a unique design detail courtesy of Frank Fusaro of Handel Architects: ireland car rentals aluminum-clad walls on both sides funnel what little sunlight there is to create a bright, warm, and pleasing affect for the beach-bunnies ireland car rentals and daiquiri sippers below.
I saw it in action recently at an early-evening event for Chandon. What little light remained as the sun began to set over the Hudson reflected off one wall and then the other, ping-pong style, ireland car rentals until the whole pool deck was bathed in a cosseting glow, making the models hired for the occasion sexier and beachier than ever, even though we were tucked between 16th and 17th Streets in Chelsea.

First, they have a "The Big Win" promotion where members can get additional points or miles based on completing certain activities like completing one stay, staying in two different brands under the IHG Rewards umbrella (InterContinental® Hotels Resorts, Crowne travel channel hosts Plaza® Hotels Resorts, Hotel Indigo® Hotels, Holiday Inn® Hotels, Holiday Inn Resort® Hotels, Holiday Inn Club Vacations®, Holiday Inn Express® Hotels, Staybridge Suites® Hotels or Candlewood Suites® Hotels brands ), staying in specific properties, etc.  The offers travel channel hosts are targeted travel channel hosts to each member, but all offers are for a cumulative total of at least 50,000 points (or 10,000 airline miles) and the promotion runs from September 1 December 31st.
In the press release, one of their directors is quoted saying that Reward program promotions are no longer one size fits all and to some degree travel channel hosts we certainly have seen an increase travel channel hosts in targeted bonus offers across many chains, so there is no doubt that is a current trend.  At least with this one there are some constants such as everyone can participate, there is a minimum number of points/miles everyone will get, and the first offer of 1,000 points or 500 miles is the same for everyone.
I still had my preferences travel channel hosts set to airline travel channel hosts miles since I hadn t used my IHG Rewards account for stays that earn points in quite a while (I have instead just been redeeming points).  Consequently, my offer is for up to 11,500 airline miles if I complete the following activities:
Stay at 2 of the following travel channel hosts locations below and receive 1,000 miles: Select properties in Montreal, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mexico City, Washington DC, Denver, Chicago, Sao Paulo, and NYC
If you could complete your stays in the specific cities listed at two different brands, it would be possible to collect all of the bonuses in just two stays that totaled at least four nights if you booked them via the IHG hotel website or mobile device.
I actually kinda like promos that are a bit more complex and layered such as this one as it can make strategizing fun.  I value airlines miles at a value of at least 1.5 cents each, so I would get at least $172.50 in value from these bonus miles.  That would be on top of all the normal points and bonuses you can get with IHG Rewards.  My only issue is that I don t really have any additional travel channel hosts stays that need to be booked, so it would solely be to participate in the promo, and that just doesn t make the economics work in my favor for less than $200 in a bonus miles.
However, I do really like the promo for those who still have stays to book this fall, or for those who already had planned to stay at IHG Rewards hotel.  I imagine there are many different versions of this promo out there with people who are targeted for 50k, 60k, 70k hotel points travel channel hosts and more!  No matter which version you receive, it makes sense to go ahead and register as you never know what the future will hold.  If Hyatt or SPG had an offer like this out, I m sure I would be all over it, but I just can t take on stays at yet another hotel chain since my travel, while frequent, isn t that frequent.
Just like last time around, a preview list of hotels that will offer the 5,000 points per night PointBreaks deals beginning on Monday 8/26 for bookings through October 31st is available in the Priority Club Connect forum.  I like the idea of a preview so you can be ready to snag a hotel you may be interested in, since some hotels go quite quickly at just 5k points per night.  It is always possible travel channel hosts that the actual list will be slightly different than the preview list, but it should give you a decent idea of what will be available.  This particular list doesn t seem to have many super popular resorts that everyone will pounce on at once, but that doesn t mean there might not be a few that will work for your specific fall travel needs.
For example, if your journeys will have you in need of a very affordable place to sleep in North Houston; Vernal, Utah; Kiev, near Dulles Airport, or in Charleston, West Virginia you are in luck!  If you are hoping to score a hotel for 5k points in the heart of NYC, well, keep looking.  Remember you can transfer points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to IHG Rewards, so even if your account is currently sitting at 0 it is still possible for you to snag one of these deals with a quick points transfer.
I have to do 3 different brand stays to get 10k, 2 Saturdays for 8k, 4 total nights for 4k, 1k for first stay, 2k for 2 separate stays booked online, and 25k for completing all. Don t think I ll be able to do this.
I got targeted for a total of 9 stays to achieve 125800 points. Haven t had a single stay with them this year. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I live in LA and the average price to do mattress runs for this doesnt make this worthwhile. Hopefully there is an unexpected work trip.
My mom is targeted for some crazy amount she doesn t stay at holiday inn much, but hers is something like 220,000. Some of them seems to be repeated (i.e. she has the complete them all twice) so it seems like it s still buggy/not finalized. I doubt she s going to get them all either, but if she s really targeted for the 220,000, I think she ll go for a couple travel channel hosts of them at least.
These individualized offers seem to make the best offers to those who patronize travel channel hosts them the least. I am Platinum and have a number of stays and was offered the bottom rung 50K. If people travel channel hosts are smart these type of offers may lead to disloyalty (switching around often) rather than loyalty.
Carl, there is the risk that those who normally frequent the chain and then find out others have better offers will get angry and go elsewhere, but that must be the exception since we are seeing more and more of these type of targeted travel channel hosts offers.
Was surprised travel channel hosts the domestic Pointsbreaks list was so poor compared to the current one since the current one was in summer vacation and this one will not be. Also there never seem to be repeats for some reason.
Last month I was able to stay in the Crowne Plaza Montreal for a week for 35K points. In the next period only Grand Junction CO Candlewood Suites looks appealing. Otherwise, international looks good.
mine is rediculously impossible. all my stay at participating hotels targets are in australia. I live in minnesota. I could not plan a trip 12 time zones away between now and october if I wanted to. Why do some people get easy challenges and still win a decent amount of points. this isnt a personalized travel channel hosts offer. its just random and unbalanced.
Question about the Live the City Life option. As of now, that is the only one of the promos that may stand between me and doing all (or likely any) of the offers. It lists 5 properties when you use the dropdown, but then there is also just above the 5 listed List of participating hotels with a link for view all which shows a lot of hotels. That view all option is not listed in any of the other promos. So the question is, to achieve this part of the promo, does one have to stay in the five properties listed pre-jump, or can it be any of the properties listed after the jump once you click view all? This is literally travel channel hosts the difference between me attempting any of the promo.

2009 could be a year where more effort is made to improve benefits for Platinum elites if IHG wants

Loyalty Traveler wants to hear from Priority Club Platinum elites and Ambassadors. Please share your opinion on the value of Priority Club elite membership as evidenced by hotel recognition in terms of upgrades and amenities during your stays.
Elite membership in a travel loyalty program offers value-added benefits like room upgrades, free meals, gifts, complimentary Business Class/First Class flight upgrades, airport lounge access, and change fee waivers. Loads of award travel opportunities have come my way courtesy of Starwood Hotels, Hyatt Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Hilton Hotels, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, and so many other loyalty programs even where I did not have elite status. IHG is the major hotel chain I have not frequented as an elite guest.   I have been planning 2009 to be a Priority Club Rewards / InterContinental Ambassador elite membership year.
Now, in recent weeks, I have been made more aware of Priority Club Platinum elite members claiming they are not feeling the love. A discussion on FlyerTalk , highlighted in the TalkMail email I received yesterday prompted this discussion of whether Priority Club Platinum members are getting adequate loyalty attention from member hotels.
I have repeatedly walt disney world cheap tickets been reading anecdotes from Priority Club Platinum members walt disney world cheap tickets stating the upgrades are far and few between and aside from the bonus points, there is not much recognition from hotels as a 50 night per year (or 60,000 points) elite program member.
2.       Hotel Market segment distribution for IHG compared to Starwood Hotels.   (I'd like to expand this to show a comparison to Hilton and Marriott, but time constraints keep me from going into a broader comparison today.)
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is a product of corporate acquisition of hotel chains through the 1990s by British brewing company Bass.   Holiday Inn was purchased in 1990, Crowne Plaza in 1994, and InterContinental in 1998.   The IHG portfolio is the merger of two upper upscale hotel brands with the midscale Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express walt disney world cheap tickets brands–a much larger proportion of hotels and rooms within IHG.   In all fairness, there are several walt disney world cheap tickets hundred Holiday Inn hotels which should be in the upscale or upper upscale market segment, but as a whole entity the brand is downgraded walt disney world cheap tickets to midscale due to the numerous older, standard room hotels.
The international model of loyalty seems to be more fee-based with loyal travelers buying membership for additional privileges.   Six Continents Club formerly existed for InterContinental Hotel guests and has evolved into the current Ambassador loyalty program.   Priority walt disney world cheap tickets Club was the existing free loyalty program for Holiday Inn and incorporated Crowne Plaza and other brands into its earning and redemption offers.   There is value in belonging to both if you are a Priority Club member planning walt disney world cheap tickets stays with IHG brands including InterContinental Hotels.
2009 could be a year where more effort is made to improve benefits for Platinum elites if IHG wants to be competitive with the other major programs.   The flip side of the argument is IHG may have already chosen its path with adding a benefit to the fee-based membership perks with Ambassador members now eligible to earn 20,000 Priority Club points after 15 nights in a calendar year at InterContinental Hotels.
InterContinental is the top tier brand and maintains its own separate InterContinental Ambassador fee-based loyalty program in addition to offering Priority Club Rewards points for InterContinental Hotel stays to Priority Club members.
Fewer than 18% of rooms in IHG hotel properties in the Americas are positioned in the upper upscale market segment within Crowne Plaza and InterContinental Hotels.   The majority of the upper-upscale hotels in IHG are located outside the USA.   Americas is defined as hotels in USA, Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America.   A significant number of the 68,000 upper-upscale rooms shown above are not located in the USA.
Only about 16% of Starwood Hotels are not in the upper upscale or luxury market.   Upgrades are common for SPG Platinum members.  I have had some nice upgrades walt disney world cheap tickets to suites at certain Four Points by Sheraton hotels in places walt disney world cheap tickets like Sydney, Australia and San Francisco walt disney world cheap tickets Airport.   The typical hotel in the Starwood chain has a variety of room types and upgrades are common for SPG Platinum members.
Standard Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels may have very few or no differentiated walt disney world cheap tickets rooms for complimentary upgrades to be offered to Platinum-elites.   Crowne Plaza and nicer Holiday Inns remain the only upscale brands for upgrades since InterContinental operates its own fee-based program for loyalty recognition.
Priority walt disney world cheap tickets Club has a generous points earning policy allowing multiple promotions and bonuses to the same hotel stay.   Free rooms are relatively walt disney world cheap tickets easy to earn, particularly at the high-end redemptions of Crowne Plaza at 25,000 points and InterContinental walt disney world cheap tickets Hotels at 30,000 or 40,000 points compared to the money spending required to earn high-end rewards with the other major hotel programs.
I too am trying to commit myself to PC this yr. I feel that the PLAT situation is a thorn n just about every hotel chain. But as a Hyatt Plat, I have received upgrades a few times. Other than that it does seem as if Hyatt is trying to loosen the belt some by giving all elites free internet(yes-this includes Plats). Maybe upgrades will be next.
Like u, I am just experiencing PC so I don t know if PC gives free internet, but if not hopefully they will follow n Hyatt s footsteps which may lead to an industry wide wake-up call to recognize the Plat give us free upgrades internet as well.
Priority Club Member. Stopped walt disney world cheap tickets at the holiday inn express @ 675 and wilmington ave this morning to fax 2 sheets to my home office. AS a platimum member I was told there would be a $2 charge. WE have spent 100 s of thousands staying @ this chain. NO I was not staying @ this facility @ the time. And I never will stay at these chains. Hope they invest their $2 wisely. Sorry I forgot to leave my $3 tip.
I am a traveling salesman covering 4 states. Some years I ll stay in hotels around 100 nights. Being a Platinum member, I am recogized walt disney world cheap tickets as such probably 90% of the time at check in. The better managed facilities almost always upgrade me automatically to a suite. walt disney world cheap tickets I don t even bother to ask for an upgrade, it s already been done. I ve stopped at different properties while traveling, used the fax machine, business center, etc.., never been charged a dime. The IHG Plantinum PC program offers the best value of any hotel chain period.
I just sent a complaint walt disney world cheap tickets to Priority Club regarding my Platinum Elite Status and not feeling walt disney world cheap tickets the love. I stayed 50 nights in the last 6 months of 2009 and many more nights for the entire year, this year I ve already walt disney world cheap tickets stayed 30 nights and as such am very much considering changing hotel brands as I m tired of not being recognized for my status level. The only hotel within the hotel brands to provide me with an upgrade is the Staybridge Suites in Sunnyvale, CA and this is limited as they are consistently over-booked (this is also the only one where they are willing to provide walt disney world cheap tickets me a room when they are sold out, when Priority Club contacted them on my behalf). The Holiday Inn I am currently staying in as I write this, did not provide me with the norm of free breakfast coupons or coupons for 2 free drinks as all the other Hotels within the organization provide. The Crowne Plaza while they have more rooms available for upgrades walt disney world cheap tickets have not provided me with an upgrade even when asked. Several years ago I paid for the Ambassador level when I was staying at the Intercontinental several times and they were they only ones (due to the Ambassador level) providing upgrades.
Holiday Inn has come a long way in improving their properties and the beds and showers are generally amazing, however, they are very quickly about to lose a customer if they do not start to provide a little walt disney world cheap tickets more incentive for me to continue to bring my business to their hotel properties.
You have choices. You should sleep around some hotel brands as many nights as you are in hotels. Give Hyatt a try since they have a fast-track to Platinum that can have you set for elite through Feb 2012 with just 15 nights.
You might want to give Marriott a shot if you can put in 75 nights. You can get night credit with a Marriott credit card to bring the nights down to 60. In 2009 Marriott had a nights count double promotion for a couple of months.
