Don t lose your key! I just lost my rental car key. The company was Dollar rental car out of Provide
Have you ever lost the keys to your rental car? D. did this past weekend, and tells Consumerist that she thought holiday accommodation mallorca that Alamo s method of issuing a replacement key was a little bit inefficient and expensive. She was instructed holiday accommodation mallorca to hire a tow truck at her own expense to bring the car back to the lot, then charged a $250 key replacement fee.
Instead, they told me to call a tow truck. We towed the car back to the lot (at my own expense!) and then paid the Key Replacement Fee ($209, discounted from $250). This sounds a little excessive after all, my car at home has at least two spare keys, precisely for situations like this. Why not Alamo?
I bought a new ford last year and a replacement key for my vehicle is over $300 from the dealer. Even at $100 cost to the rental agency, holiday accommodation mallorca having to send an employee to get it replaced has its costs and inconveniences, so $300 doesn t sound unreasonable to me.
You mean you jumped into a pool of water and lost the car keys and in effect stranded a rental car that you signed for and were responsible for . and they MADE you tow the car back at your expense?!?!?!?!
This sarcastic comment holiday accommodation mallorca has been brought to you from the folks at whinybeotches.com, where we really don t want to hear the poor me speech when, in fact your were the one that was being rude and/or irresponsible.
When I worked for Enterprise we just charged the customers whatever we paid the dealership for a replacement key. The cars get moved around from office to office so much that it is really hard to get a spare in a timely manner.
This happened to me in the middle of the Florida keys. Enterprise rep told me I had to tow the car to the nearest Chevy dealer because it had a transponder key or some such rot. Like an idiot, I did, but not back to the nearest Chevy dealer, which was 100 miles away just to my hotel. The next morning, I called a local branch manager who recommended a locksmith $150 $50 AAA discount.
Even better when I called Enterprise out on their rep s error, they refunded me the $230 towing holiday accommodation mallorca charge, so the incident only wound up setting me back $100 when all was said and done. Lesson: don t lose your key. Lesson#2: If you do, call a LOCKSMITH, not your rental company most locksmiths can even make transponder keys; they just cost more. Lesson#3: Enterprise customer service FTW.
I work at a dealership, holiday accommodation mallorca cars are towed to us all the time for key reprograms. Most of the time the vehicle holiday accommodation mallorca has to be there for the reprogramming process, and the dealership can t afford to send techs out to reprogram holiday accommodation mallorca keys all day. So if you count the tow, the cost of the key and labor for the tech to reprogram it, plus the downtime on the rental, $209 seems kind of cheap really. A rental company where I live would probably have to pay more than that.
1. The reason the key chain may sometimes contain both sets of keys is that when the rental car company either sends the car to auction or back to the manufacturer they need two sets of keys. The cars need to be auctioned or returned with every item. Keys are cheap. If you ever want to see a rental car agency get really angry demand them to remove seats from a van. You cannot imagine how difficult holiday accommodation mallorca it can be to match those seats back up to the van especially if the car goes elsewhere. Ordering the seats can be a small fortune if lost, as they have to be ordered in several different pieces.
6. When returning your car see if they want you to leave the keys in the car. Again you would not believe how hard it can be to match keys to a car when you have hundreads of cars on a multi acre airport lot.
7. People who return a car low on gas neglect that someone actually has to take the time to fill the tanks. My favorite was a guy that fought to pay nothing for returning a car to a location that didn t have a gas pump while the gauge was on E and the low fuel light was on. Car had to be towed. If you think rental car gas is too expensive then fill it up yourself.
8. The customers always think rental car agencys have people standing around waiting holiday accommodation mallorca to fix such issues as D s. Rental Car is one of the lowest margin holiday accommodation mallorca and most difficult industries to make a profit that I have seen.
I recently rented a car at a location with their lost key fee prominently displayed. If I lose the key I would suppose that they could use the spare key to have a new one made and the only cost would be the labor to make the new key. However, these geniuses gave me both keys on a key ring that was permanently fastened together. I guess they figured that if one key stopped holiday accommodation mallorca working holiday accommodation mallorca I could use the other, not that this has ever happened to me. One has to wonder what they were thinking of when they did this.
I am not sure for the exact reason why both keys were left on the key chain (fleet disposal policy, car pulled holiday accommodation mallorca from turnback holiday accommodation mallorca for rental). But here is the bottom line. A rental car does not spend enough time at a single rental location to justify keeping a spare key at a single locaton. Next time you are in an airport car rental parking lot count the number of different states represented in the available fleet.
Unless it is an extreme high-end model, 95% of the chipped keys (which actually have nothing more than 18 cents worth of resistors and antenna in them) can be duplicated by a properly set-up locksmith.
On one hand, that s what it costs to have new car keys made (especially if the key is one with a chip in it or one that s combined with key-fob buttons) so it really isn t unreasonable. After installing my spare key into my remote starter on my old 98 Lexus I inquired about having another spare made the $200 price tag convinced me to risk it go without.
holiday accommodation mallorca On the other hand, I don t take in money for the use of my car that would pay for its cost several times over like rental companies do. It seems like they could find a way to use the often already-high rental prices to at least subsidize the key replacement fee.
Don t lose your key! I just lost my rental car key. The company was Dollar rental car out of Providence airport. holiday accommodation mallorca They didn t have a spare! Who doesn t have a spare key? The cost was all mine towing it to a dealer to make a spare key and the cost of the key itself (which was $250). Ouch!

A federal class action against Dollar Rent a Car accuses the company of charging customers for addit
A federal class action against travel to california Dollar Rent a Car accuses the company of charging customers for additional insurance and other upgrades, against the customer's wishes. According to the lawsuit, there is a systematic scam employed by Dollar employees that is unofficially sanctioned by the company.
Customers at t he rental counter travel to california who decline the additional insurance and upgrades are asked to sign an electronic signature travel to california pad acknowledging their rental agreement. They are told to initial or sign additional travel to california screens if they want to decline the additional insurance and upgrades. These additional screens are actually agreements to the additional services. In other cases the electronic signature is transferred to an electronic contract that indicates the customer wants the additional services. These charges can add up to more than the cost of the rental itself.
travel to california Customers are not aware of these charges until they return the vehicles. A majority of customers have flights that are leaving and cannot take the time to dispute the charges at the office. When a complaint is made to Dollar's corporate headquarters, a standard response indicates that the customer made a mistake, travel to california includes the electronic signature next to the acceptance of the additional services, and informs the customer that because they had the benefit of the insurance during their rental that they are ineligible for a refund. A multitude of customers around the country have complained and described the same scenario, but Dollar continues to blame the customers travel to california for not understanding what they are signing. Many similar complaints describing the scam are available online.
The class action accuses Dollar of incentivizing and ignoring these practices. Representatives at the rental counter are paid minimum wage, but they receive a 12% commission travel to california on any upgraded service they sell. This commission can lead to up to $6,000 a month in additional compensation. Further, if Dollar employees travel to california fail to sell an average travel to california of 30 upgrades travel to california per day for three months, they can be fired and are ineligible for unemployment benefits. With the draw of additional compensation, the fear of being fired, and the lack of consequences, Dollar employees are incentivized to take advantage of customers, lie about what they are signing, or even to forge customer's signatures.
The Dollar Rent a Car class action lawsuit travel to california charges Dollar with multiple violations of the California Business and Professions Code section 17200 (unfair business practices), travel to california the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act (California Civil Code section 1750), and breach of contract. The lawsuit seeks to refund all the gains Dollar has received travel to california as a result of the scam and is brought on behalf of all customers who have paid for additional services including collision damage waivers, additional insurance, and other "upgrade" products that they specifically declined or did not authorize, within the last four years.
This is not the first time Dollar has been accused of unfair practices. In 1989, a California Court of Appeal upheld a judgment travel to california against Dollar for misrepresenting the scope of its collision damage waiver travel to california provisions. The Court found that Dollar incentivized employees to aggressively sell these products in exchange for high commissions. Additionally Dollar used contracts with tiny print that, according to the Court, a reasonable customer would be unable to read in the short time they spent at the rental window and made confusion by the customer "not only likely, but inevitable."

Let s start with Dollar. Sending a damaged car back out into the fleet, as you noted and as an emplo
The car had some minor paint damage on the rear bumper, but a sticker was attached indicating that the damage was previously new england inn identified, so I didn t give it any further thought. new england inn Prior to leaving for the airport on my return trip, I walked around the car to make sure that there was no damage to the vehicle. There was none.
More than two weeks later, I received a letter new england inn from Dollar asking for $239 for unspecified damages no pictures, no description of the damage, just a demand letter. I tried to reach them by phone, but their subrogation department is closed over the weekend.
I am furious about the way this was handled by Dollar. The complete absence of inspections new england inn with the customer is not good business new england inn practice but then, maybe they re not interested in good business practice. I m sure they get a lot of suckers to pay up just to avoid the hassle involved in pursuing the matter. new england inn Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. William Hicks , Carpentersville, Illinois.
Let s start with Dollar. Sending a damaged car back out into the fleet, as you noted and as an employee new england inn verified, was an awful idea. Dollar should have fixed the car and then returned it to the lot to be rented again. The sticker was an interesting idea, but stickers have a way of coming unstuck and car rental companies are not the best at keeping repair records, as any reader of this column knows.
Dollar should have also offered the opportunity to inspect the car with an associate, or at the very least allowed new england inn you to document the results new england inn of your own inspection. Instead, an employee just waved you off with a verbal assurance that everything is fine. But everything was not fine.
But you could have also prevented this. First, why did you select a damaged car? If you re ever given a vehicle in less than immaculate condition, don t accept it. Second, you should have taken numerous photos of the vehicle, and carefully documented the damage. That s pretty easy to do with your cellphone or digital camera.
And finally, you needed to make sure that any pre-existing damage was noted in writing. If for some reason no one is available for an inspection, then at least find a manager and let him or her know about the problem. Don t leave unless the dent is documented on paper. Verbal assurances are useless, as you now know.
Dollar s follow-up with you left something to be desired; waiting a few weeks before hitting you with a claim seemed suspicious. Why not ask you to fill out a damage claim when you re still at the airport? And why not send documentation of the damage and repair, as opposed to just a bill.
It was a rental at Enterprise at the Austin, TX airport. They brought the car out, I started load luggage into the trunk, and I noticed that the rear bumper was crunched. At some point in the past, someone had backed into a post, fairly hard. It was easy to see, if you knew what you were looking at, and if you had good light to look with. If you didn t happen to look right there in good light, or you didn t immediately realize what you were looking at, it would have been very easy to miss.
I don t see any inherent problem with sending a vehicle out with minor body damage, as long as it s handled properly. Why take a car out of service (and dinging a customer with loss-of-use fees) for something that in no way effects it s usability as a rental car?
Now, certainly if a rental company new england inn uses this as a money-making operation, THAT s bad. But that s another question entirely. I ve said it before, and I ll say it again: rental companies should be prohibited from charging you one thin dime after they ve turned over your final rental new england inn receipt.
My experience with car rental damage is so different than the stories Chris helps mediates that I always wonder if someone else ended up with the issue. I rented a car from Budget for 1500 mile work trip. There was an incident with a very high curb and I ended up scuffing and damaging the plastic near the front wheel. Prior to returning the car I reported it to my company s insurance and received a claim number. When I returned the car, no one would do a damage check with me even though I reported the damage. They did have me fill out an accident report that included the claim info. They didn t even bother to give me my copy of the report. I had to go back for it.
Several weeks later I was contacted by my work insurance asking new england inn what ever came of the claim. Budget never came after me for the damage nor, as far as I am aware, did they pursue it with the insurance new england inn company.
The car assigned to me that time had a serious dent in the back. I went back to the desk to report it. The manager said that, indeed, one of his employee had backed into a pillar in the garage. I had signed for full insurance coverage and he was hoping that I take the car without further ado and let the insurance I had just contracted pay for the damage after returning the car at end of my rental.
Here s my question to you if you don t think that ex post facto charges new england inn should be able to be applied, how much do you suggest they charge for damage? Or are they supposed to have a body shop on retainer and tell the customer new england inn wait here for a few hours while we get a price on the repair. How do you suggest this all work? It seems good until a person actually looks at it, then you will be overcharged, or car rental companies will become extinct.
You re probably right. If his company is a high value customer, they might try to nail the next renter rather than risk losing a corporate account. This makes more and more sense the more I think about it.
I had the SAME problem with Enterprise at Palm Beach International airport last March. Got it straightened out but it took a lot of time, effort, and toil that should NOT have been necessary. Will never rent from them again.
Wait did he TELL you he was expecting the insurance that YOU just purchased, to pay for the damage done by THEIR employee? Did he actually tell you that they were going to make a claim that YOU did the damage? Am I reading that right?
Reeks of ? HA! I d say it more than reeks. This is undoubtedly a scam, and a common one. We hear about the same thing in here, and on numerous other travel blogs, new england inn on a weekly basis. They just send out these damage claims willy-nilly, with no proof, knowing that some of the poor customers will pay. They re doing the same thing as Nigerian scammers blasting out as many scams as they can, knowing at least some of them will stick.
FWIW I rented a vehicle from Budget at the airport in Redding, CA in May 2012. In the parking lot at the hotel a guy who also rented from Budget in San Francisco backed into me scuffing and dinging the bumper in the brand new with 400 miles on the odometer new england inn car.
I filled out a rental damage form noted that another budget driver had hit me while parked and no one mentioned anything about it and here we are 9 months later and I have heard nothing more from anyone about it . . .
I had an Avis guy try to come after me for suspension damage after a flat tire that was an amusing end. I told them that my business policy requires proof of damage with estimates, photographs and copies of the last three and next three rental agreements to provide the vehicle was out of service for a longer period that normal between rentals funny, never heard back and never heard from him again . . .
Interesting to see how close the vote is on the poll. I voted yes, as in places, like Hawaii, getting new cars to rent out everytime a rental comes back damage would be next to impossible for agency and angry renters where they could not pick up a car because of it.
Is there any car rental company out there that doesn t pull this type of stunt? Because I d like to know which one(s) I can count on to not get scammed by and would pay extra (albeit not too much) to avoid this aggravation. Not everyone who rents a car has Chris Elliott advocating for them. Also, is the car rental industry such a low-margin and competitive business that this is the only way they can make any real money?
Here s what I ve noticed at Hertz (I always rent there): When I rent from an agency office in town, the agent walks out to the car with me and makes notes. If there s a scratch or ding, he writes new england inn it down on his chart, and we both get a copy. If I rent from the airport, new england inn where I go out to the lot myself to find my assigned car, the cars are always in perfect condition. Maybe it s a coincidence, but I think Hertz keeps the no notation required cars for their airports so that the airport rental process is faster.
I m sick of renting. Almost all the major rental car companies have tried to pull this scam of charging and re-charging for damage that remains unfixed. For that reason, I m using a shuttle service to/from hotel followed by public transportation or cab (have to be careful about taxi scammers, too.)
That s quite intuitive; although new england inn they d never give you copies of the previous/next rental agreements, the rest are completely new england inn reasonable requests and should be automatically included whenever a rental company claims damages.
In my experience, Enterprise is pretty good about having one of their agents do a walkaround with you and note any damage. I find their general I m your best friend act a bit annoying sometime I want to rent a car from you, not go out on a date but they do seem good at noting damage. In general, I ve been pretty lucky over the years. I ve never had a notable accident in a rental but I ve never been dinged for minor bumper scrapes and the like.
What s your problem? If you're having trouble with a business - any business - and you've reached a dead end, maybe I can help. Send me an email and I'll investigate. (I can't promise a fix, but I take every request seriously.) I couldn t believe it, said Steven Dentali, who was charged the fee in October after renting a car from Dollar Rent A Car in Manchester, N.H. I said to them, You re telling me I m penalized american airlines training center no matter what? There s no way around me having to pay something?
I am unable to advise you as to whether or not this is a permanent policy or what the purpose is for it, but in an effort to regain your confidence in Dollar Rent A Car, I have requested a refund check in the amount of $2.16 to be forwarded to you from our accounting office. Please allow up to three weeks for processing and mailing.
@ dorksandlosers : yeah, I ve always felt like they d get fewer unhappy customers if it was just a $X all-inclusive rate and you didn t have to dick around with refueling or paying a 30-cent premium per gallon to have them do it for you. If they roll that premium into the rate, I think people would be way less annoyed in the end.
I rented from Budget last, and they gave me a free upgrade american airlines training center to a mid-size (Prius) because they were out of compact size cars. Not only that, but when I returned the car with its full tank, and complained that it had only a half tank when I took it out (it did), they refunded me $40, which *more* than payed for my gas costs. Go Prius!
Once my father rented a nearly brand-new Chrysler american airlines training center from Hertz. He made it only a few miles before the thing died and wouldn t start back up. He called Hertz for a tow, and the first thing their CSR asked was, What, did you run out of gas?
Last month I was in Tucson. I rented for a week from Dollar. When I had reserved I did for a full-size car (a charger or the like), they upgraded me to a Pacifica even though there were 4 Chargers american airlines training center on the lot. I was glad because it gave me some extra space.
Moving towards the additional fee, it s a fine line in the business. You certainly can t tell if a tank is full just by looking american airlines training center at gauge, it s impossible. Requiring a person to fill it up within 5 miles of the location and produce a receipt is really not that ridiculous a request. Think of it this way, they can ask that, or they could just assume american airlines training center you won t do it and raise the rates to compensate. I d rather avoid the fee by simply showing a receipt than be charged regardless.
If they want to charge me this fee then I will want to rent a car where I see the gas sloshing around under the gas cap- ie topped off. I usually can over-pump (pumping after the pump automatically shuts off) enough gas into a car to get me 20-30 miles to the airport rental place and the guage still show full.
@ RagingBoehner : No way they would be that devious! In fact, I rather think that they must have a team of highly-trained top-off specialists that handle these situations as they come in. That s what you re probably paying for: The top-off specialist.
@ SuperJdynamite : I learned about that bit where the vapor recovery system will suck up any gas that you overfill your tank with, I ve had some good luck by pulling back on the nozzle so the rubber hood doesn t cover the gas filler.
One time in California a treehugger got pissed off at me because I spilled a little gas. I calmly told her not to worry, it would soon evaporate and not leave a mark. Have you ever seen a treehugger with a face so red you d think blood was going to shoot out of her eyes?
I could see where you could create a nice bit of bad publicity for them and make them scramble by accusing them of Not Being Green . As a few folks have already said, it is not considered environmentally sound to be topping off the tank. I m sure a few such accusations would reverse this policy pretty quickly.
If the rental agencies were being completely honest, they would just charge a set rate for the amount of gas they need to add to the tank when you return. It wouldn t disadvantage them in any way. By setting it up as a gamble at the beginning of the trip, they are hoping you will make the wrong choice and lose. All customers know it, and it makes them feel taken advantage of, so why not just stop it? I suppose it s like skimming a little american airlines training center off of every customer. There is no real way for the customer to come out ahead given those two options.
The reason this practice was done is because of cheap customers who only drive the car for one day and maybe put 40 miles on it and never gasses the car back up. the needle is showing full until the rental car company moves it around there lot and now is not showing full. they have to put gas in the car because of the cheap customer. Trying to recoup some of there losses i guess. I work in the rental industry and the majority of the time the rental company is the victim. someone cries wolf and most of the rental companies will give reimbursements to oblige the customer and give good service When actually the customer american airlines training center deserves nothing. Customers actually american airlines training center believe they deserve reimbursement for getting a flat tire. They cannot understand that they are responsible that they were driving the car when the tire went flat and that the car left the lot with perfectly good tires.

It s done and done, so all you can do is apologize and tell your clients you screwed up, its always your fault and not theirs. I think a lot of people we need to market to are much older than us, so it s great to get some advice from other professionals on how to be successful with these older clients.
Start networking and let people know you are in the business and have cards ready and get a friend to write you up, she says. Start with friends and family, sometimes they can be very difficult to work with but that s how you get started. And remember: they don t have to know they are your first client.
As the second half of the conference got into full gear, Michelle Mangio , owner of Magical Escapes , kept the momentum of the day going with her presentation, Working the Niche: An Entrepreneurial Case Study.
If you have 100 other people saying you are luxury travel advisor, well, there are 100 other people saying the same thing, so how are you different, how do you stand out?, Mangio asked the attendees.
Mangio says, in order to sell niche markets, an agent must be focused on these categories: research, training car trailer rentals alberta and certifications, organizations, marketing and public relations, and brand and presence.
Peterson focused on how clients will communicate with your agency in the future, car trailer rentals alberta how they and will they plan their vacation, and how all of us will conduct our personal and professional business via futuristic hardware, software and social networking options.

This is a business, ladies and gentlemen, be a great business person who happens to sell travel, says Mannix. car trailer rentals alberta If you don t have the passion for what you do, I promise you that customer is going to feel that passion or the lack thereof. This is a dream come true for most of them. If it doesn t feel like a dream come true in their eyes, you won't have the selling effectiveness.
Everyone I get to speak to one on one today just makes me really delighted about the industry, car trailer rentals alberta Sudeikis says. Go to industry events like this and seekk out (industry representatives). I think they will be flattered so share advice.
If you want the best tip I can give you, it is develop a relationship with your supplier, says Strong. You ve been told to develop relationships with your clients. It is equally as important to develop a relationship with your supplier cause he is in charge of your client after they are on their vacation.
The energy throughout the day was exciting and innovative, says Barreiro. It was so wonderful to see some of the travel industry s brightest young professionals car trailer rentals alberta interacting with longstanding industry icons. It made all of us hopeful about the future of the travel agent.

HuffPost High School welcomes a lively, thoughtful debate in the comment section. Keep in mind that the articles here are penned by young authors, so please keep criticism respectful, and help us to keep this a safe and supportive place for writers of all ages to contribute.
We are testing car rentals california different comment ordering to see which the community prefers. You've car rentals california been randomly chosen car rentals california to see the most favorited car rentals california comments first. Do you prefer this over most recent comments first?
Honest car rentals california to gosh, why buy such a small house and proceed to horrify the neighbours and block their cherished view with non-stop construction of a behemoth that doesn't fit in when Myth Romney is more than able to buy something over-the-top that Randolph Hearst built with 30 bedrooms bla bla bla.
I want to see stories about Democrats John Kerry, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Jay Rockefeller, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, etc., etc. Of the 10 wealthiest members of the US Congress, 7 are Democrats.
Former Speaker of the House and Democrat, Nancy Pelosi, is worth 196 million dollars, own several million dollar homes and a vine yard. New York Mayor and Democrat, Michael Bloomberg, is worth 22 BILLION dollars, and owns a home in New York, London Vail and Bermuda.Senator and Democrat John Kerry is worth 281 million and his wife is a billionaire. They own several homes. Al Gore has become a billionaire by pushing his environmental wares, and he owns a huge mansion in Tennessee and another huge mansion in Northern California. Congress woman and Democrat Jane Harmon is worth 493 million dollars, and the Clintons are woth at least 50 million dollars.
The facts are dismissed as propaganda to this and other such leftist indoctrination outlets. The populace has suffered greatly under the reign of this tyrant. Obama no longer fools the working class. Consider the fact that insurance stocks have gone up since healthcare ratification. Wal-mart stock has gone up almost 75% since Obama took control. These are just two examples and sadly only the tip of the iceberg in terms of the disparity between the aristocracy and the proliteriate-working class. The truely wealthy have unjustifiably increased in net worth over the past 4 years. Bush rode up the debt 3.5 trillion over 8 years and Obama has one-upped him by increasing the debt by 4.5 trillion in just over 3 years. This is not sustainable.
La Jolla also voted to cut govt pensions Tuesday, so there are a few intelligent people there. This is another non-story.. look at the source; right up there with that typo they found on the website car rentals california in importance.
One neighbor says she is glad there are people "with a little money and taste" who will be living there. I hardly think anyone without money would qualify even today for a $12 million mansion. The "taste" remains to be seen. Money cannot buy "taste"; nor can it buy character, integrity, honesty. Money may be able to buy real estate and elections, but not a good neighbor, car rentals california or anything else that are personal traits of value. In fact, it can be argued that lots of money is destructive to "taste", character, integrity, and certainly, honesty, particularly if that is all one has known and has developed all of those traits based on having money.
Anyone in the 99% category who thinks their life will get better by casting a vote for this empty/wealthy/hollowman really needs some serious intervention....save your money and get some professional help !!!
You sound like a typical , hollow, uninformed, hypocritical lib. The Dems are VERY rich, but of course, car rentals california that doesn't bother you. NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg is worth 22 BILLION dollars, owns four expensive homes (two not in the US), and Nancy Peolosi is worth 196 million dollars car rentals california and has several million dollars homes.
I grew up in OB and frequented MB, PB, Mission bay just after it was dredged and Crown Point. car rentals california When I go back to visit relatives, the area still has that 40's/50's car rentals california charm I still remember. car rentals california Unfortunately, there are transplants who had moved into the area with plenty of money and crass tastes to ruin the tranquility that everyone took care to nourish and take care of. It's one thing to upgrade a home with the latest gadgets of the day, however, one should always ensure the improvements won't alter the essence of the spirit of the neighborhood. It's like building a ranch style home in a neighborhood of turn of the century Victorian homes. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Alexithymic Mitt has more nerve than his father did. Great article in TIME about what a control freak the old man was, too. Imagine his father literally ripped the lapel off someone's jacket that he was arguing with, and he also picked up his future wife right off the dance floor and carried her away from some other guy she had been dancing with. As for Mitt, does he stupidly think he owns the air space around his mansion, car rentals california too? Does the Secret Service car rentals california get "paid" to wash Mitt's cars? How cheap of him, when with his money he could have their cars washed as a gesture of appreciation.

Myself and my husband is planning to do our first europe tripe. waverly hotel atlanta We are planning to fly out from Australia on 24th of April this year to London. We are thinking of making a stop over at Paris as we are flying by Air France and it already have a stop over there. We assume its better to travel around europe for 2 weeks and then go to London as my brother live there. Could you please help me out in planning the Itinerary. We want to visit some european villages and cities. We have 14 days to do the trip as we have to be back by 18th of May. As this is our first time I am not sure how to book the accomodation and plan the travel.
Europe is a very varied continent. waverly hotel atlanta The European Union consist of something like 23 separate countries. It would be impossible for me, or most others who write on this Forum, to give you useful advise at the risk of possibly completely misdirecting you.
I suggest the following uy a travel book like Fodors, on Europe, and decide on the countries waverly hotel atlanta you want to visit and within these countries which general areas - - the alps? The beaches? Scenic rivers Large cities or small village? Are museums important to you?
For 14 days, I suggest 3, at the most 4 central locations (cities, towns)overall, with day trip by train or car from these, where trains are the more economical ways of transport. They run frequently, are usulally not overcroweded and there are some very reasonable regional day tickets available. For example, the Bayern Ticket is good for one day, for all of the state of Bavararia in Germany, for any given day, for EUR26 for the two of you.
The sensible option right now, frankly, is to get hired in the US by a business like Citibank, BP or
I am an American looking to explore living abroad. Due to my Irish grandparents, I was able to acquire dual citizenship with Ireland. Have the necessary manhattan new york hotels paperwork, and my Irish passport. I am now considering a move to Europe, and was looking for some advice and insights. manhattan new york hotels I have undergraduate and graduate business degrees, and assorted experience. Unfortunately, I only speak English, but am willing to learn the language of the country I relocate to, and would likely do so before moving. What I'm hoping to find out is...
- Which countries would you think would be the ideal starting point? We've considered the UK, Nordic countries, Germany and the pricier Austria and Switzerland. I have a friend in Barcelona, so Spain's on the possible list.
Any other input would be greatly appreciated. Oh, as far as my exposure to Europe, I have visited England, Ireland and Italy. I have travelled to other places abroad, so I am comfortable outside of the US, but I've never stayed anywhere longer than 2 months. Thank you for reading this, and I look forward to hearing from others' experiences...
You really need to learn another language, but your Irish passport definitely opens all of Europe to you. You would definitely have a certain advantage finding employment in certain countries where English is not as prevalent as in Scandinavia or the Netherlands. Every other country understands the importance of English and puts a premium on native speakers if they have the other skills needed for the job.
I also have found employers want to know that you are sticking around and have roots here, so they don't train you only to have you leave in 6 months because you don't like it and are homesick. So think about how you can convince them.
As far as safety or political unrest, I can't think of any country in Western Europe where that is a huge consideration. Obviously all countries in Europe are having economic manhattan new york hotels issues which can create some social unrest, same could be said of the USA right now. Do your research and see what you are comfortable with. And almost all have quite high unemployment so that will likely hinder your job search, so you will likely need to show you can overcome anything that puts you at a disadvantage (as I mentioned above, your ties here that will keep you long term).
And considering how long it takes to be fluent in a new langusge - I would focus on companies that operate primarily in English while you get up to speed in the local language. Many of the pharma companies opearte in english globally (at least in management manhattan new york hotels jobs) so if you have any experience in that area - or can develop some while you start to learn a new language - that would be helpful.
Not sure what you mean by assorted experience - but remember that you are competing with locals who are already fluent in the language and will be given priority. So starting with international companies is definitely the way to go.
You will be joining the thousands of Irish graduates looking for jobs, many of them emigrating to other European countries manhattan new york hotels and to the US. Other than for an entry level job, employers will be looking for specific skills and experience that will benefit their company. What do you have to offer?
I'd start in the UK, possible to a US company in your chosen field but I would also post CVs in Sweden, Finland, Germany and Netherlands. Many international businesses in those countries work in English and while most UK emigrates tend towards Oz and NZ a few (including people I know) are moving to the 4 mentioned.
"I would avoid Ireland and any of the southern European countries." I agree, manhattan new york hotels unemployment rates are higher in those regions. Unemployment in the UK is pretty much identical to the US at the moment, and lower in Germany, Switzerland and the Scandinaivian countries, countries more likely to be interested in English speakers.
As for opportunities, this is really going to depend on your experience. Employers in London, for instance, won't care that you are American, they'll be interested your experience. Also, what is your area of expertise? This is really going to influence where you end up. Much much easier to get a job in advertising/media manhattan new york hotels in London than, say, Zurich, for example.
I don't think being American is likely manhattan new york hotels to be an issue - we are all pretty multicultural here and it's common to find several different nationalities in a company. I've worked with, I don't know, people from probably over 30 different countries, at least, in my life. Our small firm of 12 people has seven different nationalities in it.
I have friends in Germany and from what they say, the odds of an American getting a professional job in Germany would be very slim, even more slim if they don't speak German. it is very bureaucratic there and hard even for some Germans to just change jobs if they want. I knew an American who spoke some German and was married to a German citizen and he couldn't get a job there (an engineer).
Switzerland has a number of large international corporation that operate primarily in English - so might be one place to look, (I have worked with 2 companies there and many employees are from engish-speaking manhattan new york hotels nations around the globe - a few US and Canada, more UK, Ireland, Au, NZ, South Africa - and of course Switz Germ and the other english-speaking euro countries)
Unemployment here in Ireland is very, very high. BUT many in work are Eastern Europeans who will do the menial jobs others refuse. eg checkout and shelf stacking in LIDL .It depends what kind of work you are seeking and willing to do. Maybe the only way is to arrive and seek.
It's a great deal more complicated in Switzerland, where although EU citizens have superior working rights manhattan new york hotels to other foreigners, there are restrictions on their residence permits which may even force them to live in the French suburbs of Geneva or Basle and commute across the border. Obviously even this isn't an option for jobs in places that don't have an EU border a mile or so away.
In reality, anywhere other than the UK really isn't an option for someone who can't speak any other language (would you, with all your "business degrees, and assorted experience" hire someone who couldn't speak English?)
The sensible option right now, frankly, is to get hired in the US by a business like Citibank, BP or Omnicom and move around with them. But you DO have the right as a paper Irishperson to travel freely to most of Europe and investigate all this for yourself.
Incidentally, you are - at least technically - Irish. Having another manhattan new york hotels citizenship might sometimes be an advantage in getting a job. But it certainly isn't always, and in many cases will worry employers who might conclude you'll move elsewhere.
As in everything to do with CVs, you need to tailor the information you provide to your best judgement of what will get you interviewed and subsequently employed. Your dual citizenship might interest you: I've never encountered an occasion where it was something manhattan new york hotels that motivated an employer positively.
Picking a place to live in Europe will depend on one's finances. Do you need to obtain a job? Or by living in an inexpensive location do you have enough funds to carry on an acceptable standard of living?

Unfortunately, lacking money for the trip, many people can resort to pickpocketing to help shore up
Unfortunately, with the increased exposure on the world stage and the rise of foreign tourists coming to China, pickpocketing in the country has seemed to be on the rise. This is not just a problem isolated to the major cosmopolitans of Beijing and Shanghai where foreigners are increasingly being targeted for their real (i.e. not counterfeit) electronics, particularly smartphones.
This can particularly be an issue around the Spring Festival (ironically occurring annually during last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida the second half of winter). The biggest Chinese holiday of the year, Chun Jie a.k.a. The Spring last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida Festival, is a time of year when it seems the whole country of 1.5 billion people travel across the country to be with family. Everyone is buying train tickets to visit their hometowns. If you haven't seen pictures of what's known as Chunyun 春运 (meaning last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida Spring migration ), you should check it out . It's crazy!
Unfortunately, lacking money for the trip, many people can resort last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida to pickpocketing to help shore up the funds. This of course shouldn't come as much of a surprise. We all know that people, no matter where they are from, will often do whatever it takes to get home for the holidays and see their family. Regardless of the reason though, it certainly doesn t make the holiday last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida season any less stressful!
This should be obvious, but until you've had stuff stolen it's easy to forget. Distracted people make easy targets. Know who is around you in crowded places. Notice people who seem shady and make eye contact with people around you to send the signal that you are switched on and not to be messed with.
I know it can look dorky, but get over it. In a crowded place, wear your backpack in the front. If you are being extra careful or have many valuables with you, wear your bag in the front even if you're last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida not in a particularly busy spot. For an easy middle ground, you can also hold it in your hand (though it s not as safe!).
Just because you re listening to music, don t think you re safe! Pickpocketers are getting more and more cocky with people reporting iPods and smartphones stolen in use and enroute, including last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida while riding a bike! Your headphone cord gives away where your music device is located on your body. Make sure it's either in an inside pocket (note: still not foolproof, but better), or if it's in an outside pocket, just keep your hand clutching it at all times.
And if you happen to have a large sum with you, divide last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida it up between your pockets to reduce the risk. If you're at the market buying stuff, don't bust out a large chuck of money the way some Chinese businessmen will do because it makes them look baller. Be smart and have a smaller amount ready to grab out of your pocket. (This can also help with bargaining last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida as you have an advantage if they don t think you have a lot of money.) Be judicious with your cards and IDs. Make copies of all IDs that you can and try and split up your bank and credit cards so that if your wallet does get snatched, your not left with nothing!
Front and inside pockets are better. Best would be a money belt, but don't pull it out in public. Use it for larger sums and restock last minute cruise specials port canaveral florida an accessible pocket as needed. Ladies: sometimes your bra can make a good stashing place.

By far the biggest cost is the vaccinations. I needed several. Fortunately, the polio and tetanus boosters are covered by my provincial plan, but I had to pay a total of $313 for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Typhoid. My shoulders are like pin cushions.
I needed a new set of power plug adapters that include budget hotels rome a Chinese adapter. This cost me $28. The remaining $50 was for a Chinese visa. As far as I can tell, this is just a formality that exists to collect $50. But, who knows. Maybe some people do get rejected.
As far as I am aware, my only remaining expense before taking off is the exchange on buying some Chinese currency. I m expecting to enjoy the trip, but these costs could easily be overlooked by someone preparing a travel budget.
budget hotels rome Buy your currency when you get there. The exchange is terrible here. Sell your currency before budget hotels rome you leave. You will have few takers for RMB here. Enjoy the trip. Reply Delete Michael James March 31, 2011 at 9:46 AM
The currency tip Thicken mentioned works for Mexico budget hotels rome too. I got some currency from my bank before we left and the exchange was so poor I thought they made a mistake. I returned it, and the clerk was quite annoyed with me. I don t think she was thinking the customer is always right at that moment. Enjoy your trip, Michael. @Gene: I haven t had much luck dealing with banks for foreign currencies (other budget hotels rome than US$). But there are businesses that specialize in buying and selling foreign cash. These businesses tend to offer smaller spreads. But the advice I m getting today is (for China and Mexico) that I ll get better rates once I land. Assuming that you have an ATM card, don t worry about currency exchange. Your best rate is going to be the one you get withdrawing your money from the ATM at the airport (actually, I think I read that the exchange rate is set by the government so it makes no difference where you exchange it if you are talking about banks). You can sometimes find a map of the airport online before you leave so you can plan where to go. The airports have prominent information counters if you need help finding one. The airport maps are also labeled in Chinese and English. Nevertheless, ATM s are available throughout China. Check the website of the network that your card is affiliated with. Since there is a fee associated with the transaction, withdraw as much as you feel you are comfortable traveling with. Notify your bank and credit card in advance of leaving budget hotels rome so you don t get your accounts frozen for strange activity. I find out what my banks daily withdrawal limit is ahead of time and draw as close to that as I can manage. After withdrawing, I like to go directly to the nearest bathroom to tuck my money away in the pouch I wear under my shirt; you could also use a money belt for the same purpose. The power plug adapters should be sufficient. I think you meant converter when you said Chinese adapter. The only reason why you would need a converter would be for something using a motor and I understand those are a bit iffy . Most electronic devices like computers and camera chargers say 100-220 on them (The Chinese voltage is in the 200 range...can t remember if it s 210 or 220. ) ...Oh, you might want to throw in some tissue packets. Why? Chinese public toilets usually don t include tissue paper. Usually you will find them at your table in restaurants. Have a great trip! I love China...going back for the fifth time this summer, God willing. Reply Delete Michael James March 31, 2011 at 2:40 PM

With Chinese New Year coming up on Sunday, I was once again reminded of my other zodiac sign the Rat. In checking out what being a Rat says about my personality, I was struck by how much of the description also translated into how I like to travel.
Rats, according broadway show tickets 7 seats 10 family monday january 3 to ChinaHighlights.com , are versatile, curious and quick to adapt to a new environment, and while this description is meant to be applied to a Rat s attitude to life in general, in my case it also says a lot about my travel preferences. I am driven to visit new places, broadway show tickets 7 seats 10 family monday january 3 like a huge variety of travel styles and am generally quick to adapt to any destination I m visiting.
So I began to wonder: is this true of the other 11 signs, as well? As I began to read the personality descriptions of each sign, I could easily see how they could be applied to a person s travel style.
Rat (Birth Years: 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008) Because people under the sign of the Rat are resourceful and versatile, broadway show tickets 7 seats 10 family monday january 3 they enjoy the challenge of travel and are more likely than others to just pick up and go. China is a large country at a size of 9,596,960 sq km. China was only partially open to the world from 1980 onwards and has been a communist country for many decades. Visit the Great Wall of China in Beijing, sip Chinese tea in Xiamen, dance with ethnic tribes in Yunnan, check out 19th Century European buildings in Qingdao - there are just so much to do and see in China! Below are some travel tips to make your travel in China easier:
The unit of currency is known as Renmembi (RMB) or Yuan. Get some Chinese Yuan in your local country before travelling. When in China, exchange foreign currency for local currency in the banks or at the hotel. Banks tend to give slightly better rates than hotels. Take note that some banks close for a noon siesta between 12:00-2:00PM.
Most better class hotels and shopping centres take Credit Card or Travellers cheques. Smaller hotels and shops take cash only. Once out of the bigger cities, credit card and ATM cards tend to be almost impossible to utilize. Cash is still king in Chinese business and trade. Counterfeit notes are common in China. Check carefully before accepting change, especially if it consists mostly 100RMB notes. You can feel a texture difference where counterfeit notes is concerned.
Most civil servants, custom officials, police, hotel staff and men in the street do not speak English or at best a smattering of English. cheap car rentals san diego Most signboards and notices will carry both English and Chinese. However, be aware that some translations can be so notorious that one can hardly understand what was it's original Chinese intention. Do not expect hotels or shops to understand English. Only the very big hotels will have staff that will understand English. Most young people can understand basic English if you speak slowly.
China is generally a safe country. However, hang on tight to your wallet especially in crowded, popular cheap car rentals san diego tourist sites in tourist cities such as Beijing and Xian. These tourist cities also has a lot of touts in the streets touting tourist from currency exchange to jewelleries to female companionships. Avoid at all cost!
Bus, train, ferries and domestic flights are quite well developed. Avoid the crowd at the stations and book your tickets cheap car rentals san diego through the hotel tour desk or the nearest tour agent. Prices are likely to be competitive and tickets will be delivered to your hotel room. Again, avoid ticket touts who approach cheap car rentals san diego you in the streets. Local buses are cheap (US$0.10 or YS$0.20) and you may want to try out. Taxis are convenient and are available at all hours. Starting fares differ from each city and may be as cheap as US$0.70 in Weihai and US$1.50 in Shenzhen. Avoid travel in China during peak holiday seasons or book tickets well ahead.
There is a good choice of hotels in China ranging from one star to the most luxurious 6 stars. Most of the time, the rooms are safe and clean and in my opinion, cheap does not mean bad. There are many websites selling China hotel rooms on the internet. You can also check out the travel counters which are available cheap car rentals san diego in most train, bus stations as well as airport. Book ahead if travelling in peak seasons.
Chinese New Year: Date varies cheap car rentals san diego but generally late January or early February. May Day: First two weeks of May China National cheap car rentals san diego Day: Middle cheap car rentals san diego two weeks of October Avoid travelling during these period. Book rooms and travel modes way early if need to travel. Believe me, the crowds during these period of time will be scary. What do you expect when the entire Chinese nation of 8 billion people are on holiday as well!
Local food is absolutely fabulous. Try as much Chinese food as your wallet or stomach can afford. Restaurants are available everywhere and open to late hours. Most restaurants will have a menu that include photographs of the various dishes. Better yet, simply point at the food that your next door table is having, especially if it looks delicious! However, cheap car rentals san diego avoid street side stalls and drinking directly from the taps if you have delicate stomach.
There are cyber-cafes everywhere in China, especially in tourist areas. Most are patronised by young people playing online cheap car rentals san diego games but you still can check your Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail. Access may be a bit slow for international websites. You will need to show your passport as China has tight regulations at Internet Cyber Cafes.
One of the worst experience many has with China is the atrocious toilet facilities. Things has improved very much but it may still be a good idea to empty your stomach or bladder at every opportunity in a hotel, restaurant or departmental store. Public toilets and toilets in small shops can be a nose hazard!
Try to get a English speaking tour guide at every opportunity you can. China has a rich and wonderful history and culture and without a guide, somehow, the flavour cheap car rentals san diego and significance of most tour sites can be lost.
Hang around a group that has a English speaking guide if you cannot afford one! Always cheap car rentals san diego ask for a receipt cheap car rentals san diego from a taxi driver cheap car rentals san diego so that you can complain if you have been cheated or for tracing purposes if you happen to leave your camera behind in the taxi. Try to take the "namecard" for each hotel that you are staying at as these cards will have a Chinese address and the map of your hotel location. This is useful if you need to seek assistance to find your way back as the English version or pronunciation of a hotel or a street name may be quite different from the Chinese version. After a tiring day, check out Chinese foot reflexology or Chinese TuiNa (Chinese cheap car rentals san diego massage). Wonderful for the body after a hard day and very cheap to boot. Simply look out for shop signs that shows two feet! They are everywhere. Make friends with the Chinese whenever cheap car rentals san diego you can. They love to meet foreigners and will make good tour guides. Just buy a small present as a small token of appreciation.
