When I moved to Germany a couple of months ago, I know I wanted to travel around and I thought the cheapest way to do that was to take the train but boy was I wrong. As it turns out, the cheapest way to travel in Europe is by bus. There are several companies that offer Europe wide connections for very little money. For example I booked a bus ticket recently for a stage coach (with electrical outlets, internet, vacation rentals naples florida and very nice seats) from Frankfurt to Paris (one way) for 19 euros. That is a 10 hour bus ride for less than 2 euros an hour with internet and power… what more could you want? Sure a plane and train is faster but the plane cost 8 times as much and with all the traveling no the airport, waiting at the airport, flying and getting from the airport to the city, the time is maybe 50% less. The train takes about 4 hours and costs only 4 times more. But still for 19 euros is hard to entice me to not do that.
But enough about Frankfurt Paris, what about the rest of Europe? Yes it is all really well connected as well. The bus company Eurolines offers a month card all you can ride sort of deal that is really a bargain when you realize what you can see in a month. I for example, am currently planning a grand voyage to all the biggest cities in continental Europe and am paying 280 euros for a month long ticket. So if you are a college kid, who is broke but still wants to see Europe, travel by bus, your wallet will thank me!
