My friends and I are planning our second trip to Vegas together (my fourth personally) in the next few months and I'm trying rent a car one way to find good hotel for our needs to stay at. We're all in our early twenties' and mostly enjoy spending our time at the pools, restaurants, bars and nightlife with some gambling and shopping here and there.
On our last visit, we stayed rent a car one way at the Venetian and while we loved it there we found ourselves rent a car one way spending a lot of time at other casinos particularly Wynncore and Cosmo, which is why we've decided rent a car one way to try another hotel this time, but cannot decide between the two aforementioned casinos as well as Aria (which we've heard great things about) or Hotel 32(at Monte Carlo) which is close to Center City and is a steal compared to what places like Encore and Cosmo charge.
I would really appreciate your honest rent a car one way opinions on Wynn/Encore, the Cosmopolitan (already heard a lot on Cosmos rooms/housekeeping problems), Aria and Hotel 32 (website is impressive but has anyone stayed there?) and any other suggestions would be welcome as well. How do they rate compared to the Venetian? (we were big fans of their restaurants and pools). Where would you stay?
I'd recommend Cosmo. The crowd is young, the pools have good bars/atmosphere attached (even if the pools themselves are small). The food and bars really are very very impressive (Vesper and Chandelier bars, as well as Scarpetta, STK and Holsteins, are excellent). Marquee is a club held in high regard.
If Cosmo has flaws, its that the shopping is a bit limited (you can do Crystals next door but its all high end), and the gambling is very disappointing (tight comps, bad conditions). However, you can always do Bellagio or Aria next door (Aria's typically a bit more expensive table-mins wise) or you can walk down to the MGM Grand and play there.
The only reason why we're not completely sold on Cosmo is the horror rent a car one way stories we've heard about their rooms ( a friend went 3 days without having his room cleaned and his tv didnt work) management issue and design flaws (open shower in a DD queen room? My friends and I are close but I'd rather not see them nude.) Is it worth staying there in light of these issues or has the place improved since then? A lot of people have said they love spending time at Cosmo but would never stay there. reply to ffye20 Report inappropriate
rent a car one way Cosmo is what you're looking for on the Strip (Hard Rock and Palms would be my other choices for you but they are off-Strip). Great bars, restaurants, day-club pool scene, nightclub, gambling options are there but are almost an after-thought and most importantly, almost everyone else staying/partying there will also be in their 20's.
I stayed at Hotel32 last June. I found that for the price, the service and amenities were lacking compared to stays I've had at Bellagio and Wynn/Encore. No doubt the room we had (a loft) was amazing; just overall the hotel isn't on par with the others you mention. Example - there wasn't a dedicated elevator to the 32nd floor, regardless of what the website said.
Now if the price is right and your group isn't so big on the personal service, you might want to give it a shot. Easy to get to Aria/Cosmo and Bellagio by tram. Relatively short walk to MGM. I do like Monte Carlo - I find it has a good range of places to eat and the gambling is pretty good.
My wife and I have stayed at all on your list. We love Aria and stay there most trips mainly because we find it a comfortable, modern home base with a great location and pool. With that being said i dont think you can base your decision based off a few random reviews. When we stayed at cosmo we noticed room service trays sitting in the hallway a little longer than i would expect (24 hours) but that is a minor issue, our room was perfectly taken care of. I really think your probably looking for Cosmo as Aria isnt really a hub for young people the same way Cosmo is. The food options and bars at Cosmo are really great which is nice to have onsite. Encore standard rooms are very nice but the property is kinda small and besides Surrender its a pretty quiet property and you will have to walk over to Wynn for most of your meals. I think Cosmo is probably your best fit but your entire list of options is very nice and i dont think you can do wrong.
If this guys trip (girls trip?) is anything like our typical ones the room is merely a place to sleep in between other adventures. Thus if you are thinking Cosmo for all your activities, might I also suggest Planet Hollywood to sleep. Rooms arent as fancy but do feature rent a car one way a fully closing bathroom and are right across the street from Cosmopolitan etc. If you can get a decent rate or discount/comp type rate through Total Rewards rent a car one way I think it would be a great place for a group of friends to split and save more money for the restaurants/bars/etc. across the street at Cosmopolitan or elsewhere.
Also the PH casino floor can be a fun party at night, with decent rules in quasi-party pits and dealers that will crack a smile and high-five rent a car one way you, etc., definitely had fun drinking and hanging out with my buddy here on the last trip. Depending on your income bracket, plenty of decent normal shopping variety here too in the Miracle Mile mall underneath which has stores for people with non-1% incomes (Gap, not Gucci, etc.)
I have stayed in Cosmo several times but not in City room which from the website I believe is the only one that will do two queen beds. I will concur with the other privacy comment here that from my experience Terrace Studio and Terrace 1 bedroom definitely leave a lot to be desired on the shower privacy front (pun intended), with windows into the rooms etc. They do provide blinds and maybe there are doors of a sort too that I havent noticed (sliding?) but it is certainly non-conventional layout skewed towards a romantic angle and not as much towards a bunch of friends sharing a room for cost savings. However, all the Cosmo rooms do have fully enclosed toilet rooms so there is full privacy on that front (which is more than I can say for my room at pre-reno MGM Grand west wing from several years ago, and even our Mandarin room this trip!)
You may not know but it is worth noting if going the Cosmo route that the City rooms are in the back tower of the property and also DO NOT have the balconies, which for me are part of the selling feature of staying there and part of the price premium they charge rent a car one way (though only being able to get the balconies on king-only rooms or more expensive suites does complicate your plan of sharing the room) Checking City room rates quick, youre probably looking at $160+ mid-week and $200+ or more ($300 even?) on weekends based on website for the next couple months. For comparison, PH rack rates $40-80 midweek and $140-240 weekend depending on dates, but you can get room deals no problem with a Total Rewards acct. (not to mention expedia etc) Not to mention at PH you're already $25 a night richer vs Cosmo due to not having to pay a resort fee.
Anyways, just one more opinion, tastes run fine in this crowd debating between Aria/Wynn etc. but I do feel that the Planet Hollywood mid (/low) joint should be considered when looking for 4 pillows to split on a party trip, because rent a car one way the value proposition for that location can be quite good relative to everywhere else. Why pay for the fancy room if you arent going to be in it much? (especially if you can stay literally right across the street from the action!)
