The region in question is what used to be known as the Golden Horseshoe and reaches north to Barrie,
Its 6.6 million residents pay an average cost of $2,800/year per household to deal with the daily grind. It's holding back an estimated $130 billion in economic growth, and stifling the creation of over 80,000 jobs.
The region in question jobs on cruise ships is what used to be known as the Golden Horseshoe and reaches north to Barrie, halfway around Lake Simcoe, west to Kitchener-Waterloo, southward around the end of Lake Ontario into Niagara and eastward through Durham to Bowmanville; it's the heart of the Canadian economy, even today.
Metrolinx is the Ontario agency designed to fix the problem. It operates the regional GO Transit system (regional commuter trains and buses), will operate the rail link between Toronto Pearson International Airport and downtown Toronto, and operates the regional payment system, Presto, that will provide a unified fare payment system across all transit operators jobs on cruise ships by 2015, ensuring users needn't worry about who operates what service.
Metrolinx, using existing funds, has Bus Rapid Transit reserved right of ways under construction in Mississauga and York Region and four LRT lines in Toronto; the extension of the Spadina jobs on cruise ships Subway from Downsview in Toronto to the Vaughan Corporate Centre on Highway 7 in York Region, jobs on cruise ships extension of GO train service to Kitchener. It is rebuilding Canada's jobs on cruise ships busiest passenger terminal, Toronto Union Station (both on the subway and in the rail station serving GO and VIA Rail services), and replacing the ICTS-based Scarborough jobs on cruise ships RT service in Toronto.
The goal, however, jobs on cruise ships is to create a full regional grid of rapid express service, linked to local feeder routes, allowing quick travel around the region. This involves building additional track to allow all GO rail lines to operate around the clock (only the Aldershot-Union-Oshawa GO line does today, the other five are rush hour only services) jobs on cruise ships and providing for electrification of the key rail corridors.
It's an ambitious and much-needed plan, and even after the $50 billion or so in capital spending needed for the proposal is laid out the region will still require further expansion of the system and increased operating funds to maintain and deliver the services year after year.
Metrolinx can only recommend to the provincial and municipal governments how to pay for it; it does not have its own funding sources, or ability to assess taxes. To help do that, it's been holding regional consultations (nine of 12 planned sessions are now complete) in preparation of its recommendations in June 1st report.
Citizen involvement has been high: even the day after a substantial snowstorm jobs on cruise ships hit the region over 160 people turned out on a Saturday to take part in an afternoon-long discussion. jobs on cruise ships Those who've come out have also been cognizant of the need to find fair and equitable solutions to the money problems.
The region spends only $175 per person a year on transit. Compare that to Paris at $275, New York at $335, or London at $500 and the Toronto-Hamilton region plays the same economic role in this country as those cities do in their nations. Vancouver's Translink (with seven) and Montréal's AMT (with 10) have a diversity of funding sources jobs on cruise ships that Toronto-Hamilton doesn't have — most of this region's transit is paid for by the fare box, with some property tax levies and capital grants.
jobs on cruise ships The clear message jobs on cruise ships from the consultations is that the people of the region are ready to do what it takes to get the region jobs on cruise ships moving again. The question, come June 1 is Will their politicians have the courage jobs on cruise ships of the citizens' convictions?
