We picked up the rental car and headed out on I-595 to the Everglades. We went to the Sawgrass Recreation Park for an airboat tour. We immediately saw two alligators sunning themselves. Another reed patch down, we saw another alligator. And while getting a nature talk, we saw an osprey take off with a just-caught fish. Overall, we expected this airboat ride to be a little cheesey, travel short cuts but this was an awesome experience!
We had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe at the Sawgrass Mills Mall. Service was painfully travel short cuts slow (it took almost an hour between our order and when our food showed up). Then the girls spent several hours doing what girls do best - shopping.
Dinner at Market 17 was good. Despite a 9:00pm travel short cuts reservation, we weren't seated until 9:35pm. Market 17 features an extensive wine list, but many of the wines were out of stock on the night we were there. I opted for the four course tasting menu of: black truffle ravioli; tenderloin of Elk from Texas; lobster thermedor (served beautifully on the half shell); and finally the chocolate chocolate travel short cuts dessert. The service was top notch, the food was good. I like that they list the provenance for their ingredients. Overall, we found Market 17 to be really good. Although it just opened, I hope it has staying power.
We retired to our room to watch the fireworks travel short cuts and parade of boats on the InterCoastal at midnight. We could see out over 20 miles and could see dozens of fireworks displays. It was fabulous! And thanks to my Platinum Gold Passport status (and an awesome upgrade from the Hyatt Twitter travel short cuts folks), we were sitting cozy in a Junior Suite. It was huge (almost as big as my room at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai)! The rooms in the tower at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 are wonderful!
In the morning, we drove into the Fort Lauderdale Beach area and had breakfast at Spazio. It's a trendy little place for the hipsters that looks out on the water. However, the brunch was fantastic travel short cuts and a splendid value ($45 for 3 people).
