-a lot of adults my age (40ish) only have state I.D.'s because they have D.U.I's or something like that.. I really do not want folks think I can't drive..Already riding a bicycle I get comments.. what you lost your drivers lis? all because I ride a bike for errands.
I think you have a few things wrong, at least if your state is anything like the ones I have lived in. First of all, I believe budget car and truck rental in canada you can take the vision test without your glasses on and if you fail you can retake it with them on. If you only pass while wearing them, I believe you are restricted to only driving while wearing them. You should be able to check that out with your local DMV.
I also believe budget car and truck rental in canada you can drive in an emergency, as in life or death, without a license. I had a friend who knowingly drove drunk because a mutual friend, who was also drunk, was drowning in an irrigation budget car and truck rental in canada canal and friend number one was too drunk/weak to pull friend number two out of the water. He was pulled over almost immediately. After the trooper got an ambulance to the scene of the drowning, he cited my friend for drunk driving. The court threw it out because of the life or death need to drive.
I encourage you to not worry about what other people budget car and truck rental in canada think (sounds like the title to one of Richard Feynman's biographies). You're not more or less purely car-free with or without a license. Who cares if someone thinks you lost it to drunk driving? That says more about them than it does about you. Decide what works for you and do it. I encourage you to consider the consequences, like what you have to do to get a license again if you give it up and then change your mind later.
Here in the mid-west, rural area..very few people over 17 do not have a drivers lisc..by choice. Riding a bicycle out in the country roads..folks get a lot of dising and stuff..oh do not even get me talking about good ole boys and pick up trucks and bicycles trying to ride the same side of the road.
I don't think you should feel pressured by others to either budget car and truck rental in canada get a DL or not get one. There are no wrong answers. budget car and truck rental in canada Personally, budget car and truck rental in canada I get mine renewed just because it seems easier. But I haven't driven in about three years.
I've worn glasses my entire driving life ... my licence has a code on it indicating that I need corrective lenses to drive. Unless you figure your prescription is way off, I wouldn't worry about that part.
To me it is less hassle to keep one and drive legally if the need arises than to have to fight it out in court it I got caught driving budget car and truck rental in canada without one. Years ago I had both a DL and a state issued ID card. One issue here in NC is that they will try (gray area) to put points on your license for moving violations on a bicycle. Every state is different.
I went over a decade without owning a motor vehicle, but I never considered relinquishing my driver's licence. I still used it occasionally for hiring vehicles when needed. It's also a de facto identity document because it has a photograph and ranks level here with a passport for ID. That includes for things such as entering into rental agreements, collecting tickets at an airport, and even opening a bank account.
However, if the OP's eyesight is such that he feels he could not regain a licence after relinquishing it, issues start to emerge as to how safely he can drive now. no1mad can probably give some perspective on this.

I don't care if you are on a unicycle, as long as you're not using a motor to get places you get props from me. We're here to support each other. Share ideas, and motivate one another to actually keep doing it.
We're talking about $164 difference between the state ID and having a drivers license over the course of the next 40 years. Why would you give up the ability to drive a car (even if you never do) in order to save $4.10 a year. Are you destitute?

giving it up doesn't sound dumb. but it's a good thing to have if you choose to renew. I wouldn't worry about the eye test if you have prescription glasses budget car and truck rental in canada and the prescription is current. while you may find having one unnecessary now, it might be more useful later in life or if you are injured somehow or get surgery and need to rent a care for a few months.
If one hasn't been involved in a collision or had a moving violation in a good number of years, my state will just send a renewal through the mail...answer a few questions, send the money, budget car and truck rental in canada and with a few weeks, a new license arrives in the mail. So funny to see some people's budget car and truck rental in canada license photos that haven't been updated in years.
Your list of reasons for and against seem to favor keeping the license. Especially since you mention a planned rental car trip later this year. That would make it appear not unlikely that you might eventually want to do so again. You may also find yourself needing to drive from time to time for work reasons (careers and work responsibilities change over time).
I once had a job interview where the first indication that I was being selected to fly in for the interview was when I received my itinerary in an e-mail, including all the arrangements, and the rental car...
I got my licence when I was 18, a couple years later than most because I went to prep school, and we weren't allowed to keep cars. I only drove semi-regularly when for about two years of my life when I had a hand-me-down car in college. When I left college budget car and truck rental in canada and went to grad school, I got rid of the car. Then I moved to the Big City, just about the only place in the country where it's not unusual for an able-bodied adult not to have a drivers license. For just about all of my life, I've lived happily without my own car, am very glad to live somewhere I don't need one, and have driven at best sporadically. budget car and truck rental in canada Nevertheless, It has never occurred to me get rid of the license, I just renew it when it expires. First, why hassle with changing my ID? Second, it's nice to know I can drive if I have to (though the thought of it makes me really nervous at this point), even if I don't. Third, if you let your license laps for too long (here I believe it's five years), they make you go through the whole process again, road test and all. Who knows if there will come a point in my life when I need to drive?
I did let my license laps at one point. I know the date I last drove because I was going with a friend to the first Obama inauguration. We were to go in his car, but he had had a neck injury (cycling-related as it happens), and asked me to share the driving. My license had expired six months before. I had every intention of renewing it, but got lazy, so I had to run to the DMV to get a new license for the trip. So you never know when a license will come in handy.
