Good morning indeed!  We woke up in the heart of Little Italy, a charming neighbourhood studded with a variety of independent cafes and eateries.  We were hosted by La Pensione, a modern boutique hotel that has a fine balance of comfort and style.  This hotel was in a prime location that s conveniently midway between the airport and downtown.

We strolled through downtown to head towards the Gaslamp district to a whimsical farm-to-table themed restaurant for breakfast.  Their chalkboard specials were enough to draw me in, especially the mimosa flight.

After a filling and boozy breakfast, we headed out to Bernardo Winery, which was the reason of our visit.  My good friend from Vancouver, Wes @ BeauCharles , recently married the vivacious travel services international Sami @ SoCalWineDiva .  We wanted to meet her and to see his new life the wine country.

After a day filled to the brim with wine, we kicked back at a nearby craft beer destination.  Urge is an energetic neighbourhood hangout that boasts of an impressive selection of local, national, and international brews.  We shared a few plates and caught up over cold pints.
So we headed to the microbrewery that crafts some of my all-time favourite beers.  Lost Abbey has an intimate tasting room right alongside the brewing room.  Unlike in larger breweries, we could smell the spent grain as it was hauled out and feel the heat radiating in the room.  Port Brewing is also on site.
To celebrate Wes and Sami s new marriage, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Urban Solace, a cozy New American restaurant in the North Park neighbourhood.  They offer an interesting wine list and comfort food with a present-day, Westcoast twist.
