Located a short 10-mile cab ride north of Puerto Vallarta is the beach village of Bucerias - "place


After a short twenty minute ride from the airport in Puerto Vallarta, you reach the small puebla of Bucerias, or "the place of the divers". This is where Las Casitas del Mar is located. The ornate front door beckons you to enter and begin your Mexican vacation.
Once inside, your eyes go to the lush tropical garden and grounds, not seen in Bucerias hotels, and you're invited to take a seat in the large gazebo, also known as the "Chihuahua Bar". Lola, the owner's Chihuahua, actually from the Bucerias-Puerto Vallarta area, will make you feel at home instantly. Pat and Mary from Canada, say "It feels as though we've come home!" They have repeated their one-month Bucerias vacation for eleven consecutive years with us.
Inside your casita, one of the owners, Robin and Rick Perez, welcomes you and explains the layout and your eyes go to the Mexican decor. Each casita has it's own unique Mexican touches. Any questions that you may have about your Bucerias vacation will be answered, so that you know "where is the closest market?", "which is a 'Mom and Pop' grocery store?" or, "where is the best seafood restaurant?".
Restaurants are abundant in Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico. You could follow the beach path to many of the numerous restaurants, or you could take the street that runs in front of Las Casitas and over the walk bridge that dumps you in the center of Bucerias. Either way, you're certain to get the feel of the laid back neighborhood and savor the local cuisine.
And, the neighborhood is certain to peak your curiosity. Shops, art galleries and restaurants tempt you to stop and browse. Then, when it's time to return to Las Casitas you can enjoy a frothy Margarita or an ice cold cerveza on your private terrace or join the other guests at the "Chihuahua Bar".
If you're adventuresome and want to check out the Bucerias - Puerto Vallarta area, get ready to enjoy the fishing, whale watching (in season), parasailing, snorkeling, scuba diving and sailing on the water. On land, there's beachcombing, shopping, restaurants, zip-lining, hiking in the Sierra Madre mountains, or visiting any of the nearby pueblas. Or, it's just 35 minutes to Puerto Vallarta. Of course, you can always take time for a relaxing siesta. too.

The town square, dominated by its large whitewashed church and spire, is the cultural and religious hub of Bucerias. It is also the center of businesses in the town square. The taxi stand and school are nearby, as are any number of small shops, storefront merchants, and street vendors. The ice cream stand is especially popular at nighttime, as are the string of open-air and patio restaurants and bars along the beachfront. Walking along the beach and cobblestone streets in Bucerias is quite safe, day or night; the residents welcome the courteous traveler, and will shyly say "hola" as they pass you on the street.
