Much of Hitchcock's Vertigo car rental in prince george bc was filmed in San Francisco itself and I'll be writing a blog post on those locations some day. But some of the most memorable and important scenes in the film were shot outside of the city, in the Spanish Mission of San Juan Bautista.

There were 21 of these missions built in California in the 18th and 19th centuries, the aim of them being to educate the 'heathen' native Americans in the ways of the Catholic church. It's to be found about 90 miles south of San Francisco and is only about an hour and half's drive from the city on US-101 in your trusty San Francisco rental car .
The part it played in one of Hitchcock's very best films (recently named as Greatest Film of All Time by movie magazine Sight and Sound) is enormous. For those not familiar with the story, it concerns car rental in prince george bc a policeman played by Jimmy Stewart who has had to retire because of his fear of heights and is hired as a private detective to follow the wife of an old schoolfriend (Kim Novak) who is behaving strangely. This being a Hitchcock film, all is not as it seems and there are a couple of great scenes based around the clock tower in the town.
If you hope to retrace Jimmy's footsteps up to the bell in the tower, you'll be disappointed, however. Hitchcock had seen the tower before it had to be destroyed because of a problem with dry rot. He was disappointed when scouting for locations to film Vertigo that it was no longer car rental in prince george bc there. These technical problems were not a hindrance to someone as resourceful as Alfred and he simply had the bell tower painted onto the film. The interiors were shot on a sound stage.
Today, the town looks not much different to the way it did in 1957 during filming, although the Vertigo coffee shop wasn't there at the time! It's popular with school history trips and today it's possible to go on a self-guided tour of the grounds.
You'll learn about the Mutsun and Yokut native American tribes who lived in the area and were 'converted' by the Spanish and there's a blacksmith's shop and jail to visit, as well as the church and aforementioned horse barn with its fake horses and carriages. There's also a cemetery by the church in which the remains of over 4,000 Christian native Americans car rental in prince george bc and Europeans are buried.
The quadrangle car rental in prince george bc also featured a Monjerio where unmarried women would live and where locked car rental in prince george bc in at night as of course they couldn't be trusted with all the single men on site The convento is all that remains of the original quadrangle, though.
Even though the Mission is situated right beside the San Andreas car rental in prince george bc fault, for a look at the history of the Spanish explorers and their relationships with the Indians, as well as a chance to follow in the footsteps of Hitchcock, car rental in prince george bc Novak and Stewart, this place is well worth a trip outside the Golden car rental in prince george bc Gate City.
