fyi- checked continental's website and the bereavement fare is only 5-10% off the regular fare depen
From Patricia: Airline fares. A couple of people have asked whether a "bereavement" fare discount or a special non-refundable fare like Orbitz is better. cruise alaska The difference is that the bereavement fare reservations, (at least on United,) can be changed or cancelled without extra fees. Since mother's condition is so uncertain right now, that might be a good thing to fall back on. If you're cruise alaska getting some incredible price for non-refundable, you might still decide that's a better deal, but it's probably worth a call to United or another airline to check it out. The bereavement fare I'm getting is only a little more expensive than I would have gotten with a non-refundable cruise alaska cheap ticket, and certainly a lot less than a regular fare. (While cruise alaska you're on the phone with the airline, they will check to see if there really is a funeral. All you have to do is give them the Tyree Funeral Home number, 304-469-3351, and you're all set).
fyi- checked continental's website and the bereavement fare is only 5-10% off the regular fare depending on if the fare is greater/less than $500. Also- it says that it the regular fare restrictions on change/cancellation still apply although there may be "exceptions" Jennifer
