The Volusia County Sheriff s Office says Charles Johnson (pictured above) was booked Sunday car rentals ft myers airport night after taking money from the Best Western Deltona Inn on Deltona Boulevard, minutes after he tried to do the same thing at a DeBary hotel.
VCSO says a hotel clerk at the Hampton Inn on Sunrise Boulevard in DeBary car rentals ft myers airport called them on 7:43pm Sunday night to say that a man in his mid-40 s had just come into the lobby and demanded money after wrapping his face with a white T-shirt. The clerk said the man, who did not appear to be armed at the time, fled with no money in a white van heading east on Dirksen Drive while he called 911.
10 minutes later, VCSO says they got a call from a clerk at the Best Western a few blocks away saying a man who fit the same description came in making the same kind of threat, only this time he said he had a gun. The clerk said he gave the robber $135 and the man left, but not before thanking the clerk and telling her to "have a nice day."
By that time, law enforcement units were already searching the nearby area. An Orange City police officer found Johnson with two other men, 19-year-old Lucas Contreras and 20-year-old Kyle Hilton, near Holly Avenue and Graves Avenue just after 8pm and took them into custody.
All three are being charged with armed robbery, attempted robbery, car rentals ft myers airport assault and petty theft. Johnson also is facing added charges of destroying or tampering with evidence for throwing the crack cocaine out the window as their car was being pulled over.
