March 5, 2012 (Evanston, IL) Representing The International Service Committee of the Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club, Marv Edelstein presented Andy Oleszczuk with a $1500 check in support of Arc Of Hope, a non-profit organization that is helping to build a school in Uganda. This is one of many humanitarian projects around the globe which the club supports. The event was held at the home of Steve and Christy King of Evanston.
The St. Joan of Arc Day and Boarding School began construction in 2008, and currently serves 566 students from nursery school to 7th grade. The Rotary Club donation will help to build teacher quarters located on-site and help fund tuition for students who cannot afford the annual $50 fee. The average family income in Uganda is less than $400 per year. Future developments at the school include a kitchen (currently meals are prepared out doors), a school bus, computer lab, library, additional dormitories and furnishings, high school, a vocational training program, and sustainable plant and animal farming programs. The Arc Of Hope organization is seeking volunteers to help develop a website, collateral materials, social media and other outreach efforts.
