Another update. Fares went back to 567 saturday morning so I bought 3 tickets. Iberia still had thos

Our college age son is taking spanish classes in Madrid this summer. Our other teenager and my wife and I hope to fly from DC to Madrid 6/27 and rent an apt for 6 nights; collect our older son when he finishes classes on 7/4, take the train to Barcelona for 2 nights; drive to Begur and stay at Hotel Aiguaclara for 4 nights; and then on 7/10 all of us fly home from BCN.
Airfare per person on Iberia (WAS to MAD plus BCN to MAD to WAS) has gone overnight from 566 to 948. Expedia options for flights leaving 6/27 and returning 7/10 just today have gone from 592 to 983. Too bad it's not the stock market.
guided tour in washington dc Round trip to Madrid (dropping the return connection from Barcelona) is about $100 cheaper. guided tour in washington dc Should I fly round trip to Madrid and take the train to and from Barcelona? Any ideas about how much the train fare from Madrid to Barcelona is for high speed and low speed? Is driving back and forth to the beach from Begur a chore (once for us in the morning and once in the afternoon when the kids wake up)?
Well, for those of you anxiously waiting for an update, guided tour in washington dc yesterday's 948 ticket is now 743. Do I buy or wait for it to go back to 567 where it was a couple days ago? Golly, buying tickets to Spain is not easy. The bulls at Pamplona must be a piece of cake after this.
Well, that's a relief (re the horns). I reserved the tickets. Iberia says I have 48 hours to have them issue the tickets. I hope that means the price is good for 48 hours so I can let these lapse and buy cheaper ones if the price goes down. There should be an options market for airline tickets. Aducamp1, are you suggesting four nights in Begur could be too many? We like beaches and towns with tapas and interesting inns. But we got to get two rooms since the kids aren't as small as they used to be so cheap (reasonable) is nice too. People guided tour in washington dc here seem to like Begur and the Aiguaclara. But it could be trouble having guided tour in washington dc to coordinate with the kids re trips for swimming, etc.
Since we never know what the airlines are up to, if you're comfortable with the price of the tickets, then go ahead an buy them. If you wait too long there may not be any seats since the airlines have been cutting guided tour in washington dc back on the number guided tour in washington dc of flights. We usually purchase our tickets several months in advance just to make sure we can take the flight.
guided tour in washington dc Actually it is the horns that will kill you. It's the sh_t on the tips that will keep you in the hospital for weeks on end should you survive an encounter. And yes, running with the bulls is easier to deal with then trying to figure out the airlines.
(the only negative is the traffic getting in and out). There is so much to see and do in the area-from beautifully preserved medieval towns to the Dal triangle to Iberian and Greco-Roman settlements to swimming to scuba diving, etc.
Begur is a very charming, pretty, classy medieval hill town with interesting architecture (indiano mansions of Cuban emigrants), an abandoned castle atop the town, several medieval watchtowers around, splendid sea views, great food (and pizza), bars with outdoor guided tour in washington dc terraces on the main square, sardana dancing and havanera singing in the evening and pine covered coves for swimming (Aiguablava, Sa Riera, Tamari ). It also boasts a lively Wednesday market and very helpful tourist office. And during high season, guided tour in washington dc a beach bus runs from the Pla a de Forgas. And you'd be only a short drive to the flat, family friendly town beaches at Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc.
Thanks for train info. I think the train takes about 3 hrs for about $140 vs Vueling at about 1 hr for about $65. But the train might be more pleasant. This is a decision we can make when we're there. Other people like these places next to beaches. Any of these you'd like especially?
You have a good set of reasonably priced lodging choices there. It depends on whether you want to stay at a family-run hotel directly guided tour in washington dc facing the beach (Hotel Llevant, Llafranch or Casamar in Llafranc) or at a place atop a hill with balcony room (Hotel Garbi, Hotel Hostalillo).
Sa Rascassa is a very laid back, charming little 5 room place with great seafood, but it's "away from the action" in that small diving cove of Aiguafreda (no beach-just pebbles) guided tour in washington dc , which means driving back and forth to shops, pharmacy, markets, other beaches. With your teen daughter and college age son, I'd choose something handier and more "lively".
The "liveliest" town, in terms of bars, some nightlife, special events, would be hilltop guided tour in washington dc Begur but sans beach. In addition to the Aiguaclara, there are other options, such as Bliss Begur, which I thought had good rates. And I liked the owners.
Another update. Fares went back to 567 saturday morning so I bought 3 tickets. Iberia still had those low fares this morning on their web site, but not Orbitz or sidestep or kayak. It's a mystery to me how these sites work. Now working on the older son's fare for the extended stay which is not so cheap. We also got reservations for 4 nights at Aiguaclara. Can hardly wait to start the trip report!
