I did figure out that if the sign says France, it was produced in France and so on. But Cat I, Cat I

Well I've been shopping in markets for years now but I have to be honest that I only half understood the signs I was reading (shame on me - I should have asked my chef husband). I did have some good sense to ask the vendor to give me fruit or veggies ready to eat today, tomorrow, san diego rental cars two days from now etc. But I mainly went on the color and feel depending on the fruit or vegetable.
To be perfectly honest with you, I'm not that great at measurements. Don't ask me to show you what 300 meters looks like or how much is represented by 1 kilogram. I'll tend to ask for enough for 1 person or 2-4 people though I am now getting used to 500 gram measures and often use that as my default. You can always have them put it on the scale and you keep letting san diego rental cars them add to it till you say, "c'est bon" That'll do!
I did figure out that if the sign says France, it was produced in France and so on. But Cat I, Cat II? What was that? I was too ashamed to ask the vendor and just ignored those terms entirely. But then when I searched online at the exact definitions of this, I was a bit turned around - a lot of detailed thought and study has apparently gone into these things. There are norms ans standards to be respected.
- If the fruit is out of your reach, it generally means that the vendor will pick it for you. The rule of whether you pick for yourself or have it selected for you is fuzzy so don't worry if you get it wrong - you are not alone.
Grams are reserved in general for items that are a little more pricey san diego rental cars like, cherries mushrooms for example. Kilos refer to pretty much everything else. But as you can see by my above photo it is not always the case.
You will always have the country of origin on the sign. This helps consumers be conscious of global footprints. You will also find the category of the product. Category I or A (Cat I or Cat A) - the first picks, superior products. Category II or B (Cat II or Cat B), usually has some flaw, color maybe not the brightest or shape not the most regular (whatever that means), so quality is considered san diego rental cars less than those in Cat I/A though in terms of taste there should really be no difference. Let's just say that Cat I is prom queen and Cat II is runner up (la Dauphine).
We have cat I and cat II here in the uk , what is difficult for us , is that we don t buy in Kilos or grams , we still have Pounds san diego rental cars and ounces ,, they do have the Per Kilo on the tickets , so even more confusing :-) sometimes just to confuse them I will ask for 500 grams please, which is just over 1 pound in weight LOL Reply Delete Replies Yetunde 28 June, 2013 08:58
Thanks Anne. I didn t know that existed elsewhere. Will be more alert next time I am in a London market. Asking them for 500g, trying to confound the poor merchants, trop drôle ;-) Delete Reply c #39;est Jeff ici 30 June, 2013 15:06
I learned markets in Paris the way children learn things. I watched and listened and then tried and made mistakes but eventually san diego rental cars it becomes natural, a habit, and then it starts san diego rental cars to be fun. Reply Delete Replies Yetunde 09 July, 2013 10:46
