A three-story, 60 room Sleep Inn would replace the Buffalo Tourist Lodge at 1159 Main near Dodge Street under plans approved by the City on Tuesday. The $4 million project is proposed by property owner Fouad Bou-Jaude. 7,700 sq.ft. of office space would front Main Street in a two-story vacation rentals in florida section of the building.
There is no setback along Main Street, says Jacob Flitton, Associate AIA. We have pulled the building towards the street to give it more of a presence along Main Street, and to locate the required parking in the rear of the building.
vacation rentals in florida The largest complaint against the building was the tower, says Flitton. As we consulted the Sleep Inn chain, that was another requirement of theirs. Thus we located vacation rentals in florida the tower towards the back of the site further away from Main Street.
Three years ago, Savarino Cos., working with local investors, proposed a 30,000 sq.ft, two-story office building for the Tourist Lodge site. That project, also designed by Silvestri Architects, did not move forward.
Agreed, although I wouldn't say the entire state isn't far enough to the left. I was referring to "Carl Country," or the county that has elected one Democratic vacation rentals in florida county exec in its history. I agree with the purely conservative concept of responsible spending vacation rentals in florida and efficient government but I was referring to the "conservative" tactics of local govt that those on the right don't view as waste or wrong (sprawl subsidies, prison abuse+lawsuits, poor bashing etc).
No, but I have to admit whoever wrote that is a lot more passionate about preservation than I am. I would't put somebody arguing against the efforts to make the region "placeless" in the same category as those passionately advocating for destruction of that sense of place.
MBA That's the same cop out Dan used in another discussion. Is the assumption that I must be blind to the ills of WNY because I have not seen the land of milk and honey that exists everywhere outside the supposedly inferior confines of wny? If I were to shop at an Ikea, Dillards,or eat at a Fazolis or Sonic, I would reject vacation rentals in florida everything Buffalo and join hands with this site's tear soaked vacation rentals in florida glasses wearing collective?
You never did answer my question. Have you ever really lived anywhere else? I never said other places are better or that WNY is inferior, although you seem to like to think that's what I said. I was just wondering. Part of the problem I see with your line of argument you put forward here is the apparent assumption that Buffalo is rare and unique somehow. Sure we have some qualities that are unique to Buffalo, but a lot of other places do too. I know we have nice buildings, but we're not the only place that does. Why is eating at a Sonic or shopping at an IKEA a rejection of Buffalo? What if you shop at Walmart or even Wegmans? We already have them here. Does that make you any less of a Buffalonian if you do?
Yes, although Dan is very knowledgeable, he's sometimes over the top (and even worse - unfunny) with broad-brush stereotyping of all things Buffalo. When his comments are in that vein, they sound as dumb as some things cheerleaders say on the opposite extreme.
Labels such as conservative and leftist are relative. There's quite a few people (for example, the Working Families Party and their supporters) who feel WNY and NY state are still too economically conservative and not far enough to the left.
There are many structures vacation rentals in florida like this in Toronto, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Portland, Cleveland, etc. etc. etc. It will be built up to the sidewalk, it looks decent, vacation rentals in florida it's a recognizable brand, and it will enhance the area. No it's not a fancy, architectural rehabbed gem on Delaware but it is what it is and that's a great deal better than what's there now. It's actually quite functional for the many visitors who will be coming from all over the world to receive services or interview for positions at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. vacation rentals in florida And yes, you'd be shocked at who comes to Buffalo to interview for jobs...from all over the world.
Feel free to read some of "Dan's" previous comments. He basically takes any and all of life's objectionable qualities and makes subjective, unverifiable claims claims that they are somehow the exclusive domain of Buffalo. To imply Buffalonians speak with an accent is one thing, but to claim that way of speaking vacation rentals in florida is inferior to all other accents on the planet is obvious local loser drama syndrome.
Ill give you a pass on this one since you cant be expected to read everybody's comments on a site like this. But I do plenty of complaining about the areas flaws such as developer-corporate first mentality, disregard for historic fabric, sprawl funding, politically conservative leaning etc.

MBA, there you go again, arguing that everyone around vacation rentals in florida here that doesn't think like you has an inferiority complex.Just because we don't agree with you that everything is going great around here doesn't mean that we're bashing the city. If those commentors really hated Buffalo they could have joined the stream of people leaving the area a long time ago.
MBA, let me ask you a question. Have you ever lived somewhere vacation rentals in florida else than Buffalo? If so, where? If you haven't, maybe you try it, and see what the rest of the country and the world is like. It might broaden your horizons a little.
Your rant is authentic, gritty and real, especially when uttered in the distinctive, character-filled Buffalo eyacksint. Nobody in Phoenix and Charlotte can rant like that; instead they use the same tired, soulless cliches heard everywhere else in the country. Go Bills!
I do not think every building erected in the city has to be an architectural masterpiece. Instead it should simply make sense. Not an architect here. Just a practical person who wants to see people in that still have to live and work in that area do so in a better atmosphere.
As far as a door on Main, the reality is this is built for the traveler who will drive his/her vacation rentals in florida car to the parking lot and walk to the door. Make sense for the door to be near the parking lot. That is reality, people drive cars. This lodge has to first function to meet the needs of those using it.
What I see here is a great improvement over the crack hotel that is there already. This project is so vital to the development of the medical corridor. There are not many options for families of patients that want to stay near by.
Ok, if you want a third option, why don't you come up with money to build something better, or convince someone with money to do that? Why should the city turn down something someone wants to build with their own money in a crappy part of town, just because it doesn't fit your idea of aesthetics?
I agree, but that's what happens when the city has no architectural or site planning regulations of any sort, and a development philosophy of "it's better than nothing" vacation rentals in florida prevails. Zoning vacation rentals in florida and development regulations are a cookbook for the city's built environment. When you have a recipe for spam, don't expect to pull prime rib out of the oven.
One old shady drug dealing vacation rentals in florida motel for one that will be in...idk ten years?! But...Unfortunately I have to agree that this is what you get for that type of money and no support from city! It's sad because this type of architecture really needs to stop invading the city. It is a losing battle but I really wish architecture firms like Silvestre were not allowed to design in the city!
An operating, vacation rentals in florida tax-paying, job creating business is a good thing. If you don't like the way it looks, just wait 50 years when it becomes a delapitated vacant crack house then you guys will just love it
I think the big difference is the choice of materials and level of detailing. vacation rentals in florida The Pittsburgh example moved beyond the typcial surburban hotel palette while the sleep inn does not. As far are configuration i would agree, I am not sure there is any advantage to the way the pittsburgh example is situated on its site. Looks worse.
Wouldn't that Holiday Inn South in Pittsburgh be attacked just as much on here as not urban friendly because the building is set back from the sidewalk (enough room for cars to pass)? And it has a chain link fence along the sidewalk.
Who says having the door face the lot is to save extra cost? Isn't it logical and efficient for the door to face the direction vacation rentals in florida (toward the lot) in which most of their guests come and go? Form following function, no?
If the door was to face Main St, then logically the lot would be in front of it (or a paved private road for cars, such as the Pittsburgh Holiday Inn some say is better), and then complaints would be the buiding isn't built to the sidewalk.
And, you think the choice is only binary? Knock it down OR put a piece of suburban crap up there? I offer a third alternative: renovate what is there or build something consistent with an urban aesthetic. No one is suggesting that the current site is architecturally important, vacation rentals in florida we are suggesting that a newly designed cheap design, as proposed vacation rentals in florida by Silvestri, is not the best solution.
What is all these loons talking about "keeping the lodge?" As a former first responder in the City I can certainly tell you it is not a haven of poor people. It's a breeding ground of drug addicts & prositiution. It adds NO benefit to Main Street, either cosmetically or financially to the city. It's a DUMP.
As well I continually love people that blast the design, typical Buffalonian NIMBY. Someone wants to invest, and all people do is critique everything. We wonder vacation rentals in florida why Buffalo is the 71st largest urban area anymore?
This isnt tearing down City Hall and replacing it with a strip mall. I dont
