Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes cheap pop concert tickets able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). cheap pop concert tickets And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
Set for release on May 30th in the UK and Ireland and June 6th in the US, the cast for ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ also includes Brendan Gleeson, Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Noah Taylor, Jonas Armstrong, and Franz Drameh. Doug Liman directs the film from a screenplay by Dante W. Harper, cheap pop concert tickets Jez Butterworth, John-Henry cheap pop concert tickets Butterworth and Christopher McQuarrie, based on the acclaimed novel ‘All You Need is Kill’ by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
I really cheap pop concert tickets enjoyed your character cheap pop concert tickets in this film. Rita s a rich, beautifully realized character, who s incredibly fierce, strong, smart and sensitive. I can imagine there was a lot for you to appreciate and latch onto?
Emily Blunt: Definitely! I play Sergeant Major Rita Vrataski, who s the most highly decorated soldier in the United Defense Force. She s a fearsome warrior and she s notoriously killed over a 1000 Mimics which is an impossible feat, seeing as most soldiers get killed within moments of landing in a battle. So she s this rather mythical hero in the movie. My character is enlisted by Tom s character, Major Cage, and he enlists her help to help train him and help him survive. At the same time she s using him because he s inherated the alien s ability to reset the day, and she sees this is a pretty cheap pop concert tickets valuable weapon. So, she uses him to change strategy and change tactics every time he relives the day to hopefully to go on and win the war.
Emily Blunt: I never approached Rita as a female action character, I just saw her as this lethal powerhouse who was pretty much the toughest person I ve come across. cheap pop concert tickets It was exciting to approach her in that way, you know? She wasn t this kind of butch woman, she had gotten to where she was by being savvy and intelligent and determined, and I think that s what excited me the spirit she had, the chutzpah she had (laughs), and courage cheap pop concert tickets she had. She s an incredibly courageous character. For me the heart of this film is determination and the perseverance of the human spirit. And I think it s about doing the right thing as well. The film becomes that, it becomes about these characters wanting to do the right thing.
Emily Blunt: Yeah. She sees that he s doing things. He seems to be predicting the aliens next move, and that s disconcerting for her at first because she s wondering how he does that. But as he continues to fight in this agile, clever way by predicting where they re gonna be, she realizes that he is someone who is one in a million, in that he can inherit cheap pop concert tickets the aliens ability to set the date, so she recognizes cheap pop concert tickets in him that he has the same power that she once did.
And Cage at first struggles a lot with the training and then when they hit the beach. He struggles to remember cheap pop concert tickets where they are on the beach and where the mimics are coming from they re such an overwhelming force, so there s a lot for him to try and absorb and remember. And he s also trying to save her, he s trying to strategize so she doesn t get killed cheap pop concert tickets either. So you see his struggle and you admire cheap pop concert tickets it and respect it and cheer for it. And then as the story progress you really see the progression, and you see them growstronger together.
Emily Blunt: It s an infectious thing to be around Tom Cruise. He has this wonderful, irrepressible enthusiasm everyday on set. He s not cynical in the slightest and he s not weary in the slightest with anything. There s a childlike enthusiasm everyday with creating a character and a story and he does it because he wants people to enjoy themselves and he wants the film to be as incredible as it can be and he wants you to be great in it as well, so he s a very generous actor and a very generous person. He really took care of me to make sure that I didn t feel like I was in over my head, and I will always be grateful cheap pop concert tickets for that. We really had to see this film as a two-hander and he made sure I wasn t overwhelmed by the scale or the action or the physicality of it all.
Emily Blunt: Yeah, those were the moments I m more used to experiencing (laughs). I haven t done much action at all. So playing those scenes is what I always live for in a movie experience. I love getting to play scenes like that, and it was such a breathe of fresh air particularly with this film, because most of the film was so physical. It s wonderful as well because I think you really get a glimpse of who these people really are, and the audience gets a moment to just ease back and take it all in and to discover their relationship cheap pop concert tickets in a more intimate way. So I think those scene were such a pleasure cheap pop concert tickets to do. And Doug Liman is great because I think he steers away from things ever looking too perfected or glossy, and that s why I love his films because there s a messiness and a humanity to them. You capture these very spontaneous moments cheap pop concert tickets and I think an audience can feel that.
Emily Blunt: You can train all you want, and you can run a million miles and you can lift weights and learn how to do a pull up, and I did all of that stuff, but I don t think any of it really prepares you for the sheer weight of the suit, and learning how to move in it so you can make it look effortless even though it isn t. And that first day on set was a bit overwhelming when I first put it on, because it was precise art, trying to get the suit to fit you perfectly. If something was off by even a fraction, cheap pop concert tickets it would be really painful to wear it (laughs).
They tried to form it so that the whole weight of the suit was taken into the legs, but if it s off for a second there s such pressure on your shoulders and your arms you just have to get really cheap pop concert tickets strong in order to work in it. And after a while it sort of became second nature, because we had to be in the suit so much and we were encouraged to be in them so much so that we looked good in them and moved well in them. So during any waking moment cheap pop concert tickets we could in prep, we would be in the suits so that we could get used to it. And you do to be honest, cheap pop concert tickets you just get used to it.
