The Hale Koa is AWESOME!!! I've stayed there a few times when I was in PACAF and had wonderful experiences each time. Just sign up for any of the tours that go on around the island and you're good to go....oh yeah...and if you go to downtown Waikiki, there's a porn shop that caters to Japanese tastes specifically. The only reason why I knew it existed was because I could read the sign in katakana and hiragana that the dude was holding.....

I say that the Hilo Hattie trolley since it's free and they go all over town giving a real good tour on the way to and from the store! The Monday orientation has a real good selection of tours there was a tour run by a really good guide in a 20 passenger bus that loops around the island that more than worth the cost and I think the Tour of Valor is a real good one tha visits the attacks major military 2 night cruise to the bahamas sites from 7 Dec 41. The Thursday night Luau is a lot of fun too.
One time, some homeless drunk dude came up to me and started telling me a joke...just out of the blue. I was in downtown Waikiki and he had a 40 in his hand. I thought the dude wanted some cash, so I was gonna give him a dollar. He looked at me like 'WTF - I don't want your money!' and walked away!

If you like to walk take the hike up Diamond Head. Also they have a sub Tour you should go on that is cool. I would not rent a car why you are there because you will already be in the heart of Waikiki. Traffic can be pretty bad there. If you are going in the winter time you should go to the north shore to see the waves. If for some reason you do rent a car though you need to drive across 2 night cruise to the bahamas the H-3 Highway views are great. Have a great time I loved my four years I spent there.
Diamond Head, Dillingham Airfield, Wheeler AAF, Ford Island, Pali Lookout, Kaneohe bay (best military assignment on the island) Bellows AFS (has some abandoned buildings to check out) The possibilities are endless and a rep at the Hale Koa should be able to help out in planning some sight seeing. Heck go to the MPF on Hickam and look at the pop marks from Japanese 2 night cruise to the bahamas strafe runs ON THE BUILDING!!!
