From time to time we receive queries from customers looking for travel advice or tips about renting a car.  This week, Vicky from Co. Durham contacted us regarding  the best place to pick-up her Las Vegas rental car .
Myself and three others are planning a week-long trip to Las Vegas to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday.  As a surprise, we're thinking of renting a car while there and doing a little road-trip.  Where would be the best place to pick up the car?  We are set to arrive in Las Vegas Airport on May 26th and will be staying at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
Thanks for your question.  Sounds like the perfect birthday surprise.  I've done some checking and good news – you can either pick up the rental car in Las Vegas Airport or in the Mandalay Bay Resort itself.  It's completely up to you. You may be too tired after the long flight to consider driving to the resort via an airport pick-up.  This will probably be the cheaper option though, as it is generally more expensive to rent a car at city centre locations/off-airport. I would advise you to book early however you will save much more money by pre-booking your car rather than walking in and trying to pick up a vehicle when you get to Las Vegas.
In terms of road trip destinations, Red Rock Canyon makes for the perfect short day trip.  It is located only 40 minutes from the famous Las Vegas Strip and offers just the right amount of rocky scenery to qualify as a desert road trip .  Getting there is easy, simply drive from the Blue Diamond Road on the south edge of town and from Charleston Boulevard on the north, you'll see the canyon located on the lower slopes of the Spring Mountains.
If time is an issue, it's possible to do a one way "scenic loop" through the most scenic rock formations without vancouver sport car rental even having to get out of your rental car.  I would recommend stopping at one of the parking areas though and walking for a little while to get a better/closer view of the area.  Be sure to bring your camera along – you might even catch a glimpse of a desert tortoise in the wild.  The local visitor centre is also worth a look, here you can learn more about the beautiful desert scenery and distinctive vancouver sport car rental rock formations.
