Summer is an exciting time for everyone, school's out, strawberries are ripe for the picking and the pool is calling your name. Those of us who are looking forward to what summer has to offer will be happy to know that this year is the Golden Anniversary of the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival , and the entire city of Lancaster, PA will be celebrating.
The Lancaster Summer Arts Festival was the brainchild las vegas hotels on strip of Robert Vaux Roop, following the cancellation of a planned art exhibition. In perhaps one of the first "pop-up" art events, Vaux Roop rallied the artists and the community, and in 1963 the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival was born. Vaux Roop's community spirit and love for the arts inspired world renowned artists and performers to appear over the years.
Former performers of note include pianist Van Cliburn , who, in 1973, entertained thousands in one of the first public performances located in Penn Square. Celebrating 50 years, the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival includes over 40 events with live music and performances, film series and art exhibitions.
