In the year 1254, in Venice, Italy a young boy was born into a wealthy Venetian family. He grew up living a hard life raised by extended family, because of his mother's death when he was young and his dad's obsession with travel. His father, Niccolo Polo, teamed up with his uncle, Maffeo Polo and became successful jewel merchants who traveled through most of Asia and into present day China together during his youth. His full name was Marco Polo.

This journey was not easy by any means, and it was all done on land through harsh terrain and territory, which is what scared away the two priests.
The three men all made their way through the Middle East, although they made a pit stop by the Afghanistan Mountains because Marco picked up a small illness comfort inn suites from the long days of travel. Sadly, however, by the time they landed in Persia's Port of Hormuz, only eighteen people survived including the three of them.
When all of this excitement was taking place, Genoese officials began taking away over three quarters of the family's wealth, only two years before Marco Polo's return home. When Polo finally got home, he had a difficult time adjusting because he had been gone for a total of twenty-four years. Things didn't turn out so well for Marco Polo, as he was found and captured by the Genoese. Finally, in 1299 he was released from prison in Genoa and returned to Venice.
Due to his fame from the novel published while in prison, many individuals were interested in hearing the story from Marco Polo himself. They would go and visit him and he was treated as some sort of a celebrity. He continued living this life and decided to stay in Venice for the remainder of his life. Sadly, on January 8, 1324 Marco Polo passed away from a small illness at home.
