Johnno the only way they wouldn t be cellar swellars is if they imported pretty much their whole sid
Under a possible Super 18 model which appears the most logical future competition, Australian and New Zealand sides would join together in their own conference while South Africa would combine with Argentina.
One thing s for certain: Super Rugby expansion will occur after the 2015 World Cup with governing body SANZAR committed to ensuring the recently-relegated Southern Kings will be one of six South African teams.
While SANZAR, which aims to finalise its next model by the end of the year, has a lot to consider before deciding murcia airport car rental upon its preferred model, the three-conference system looks to be coming towards an end.
The heavy political pressure for South Africa to have six teams only intensified with the Port Elizabeth-based Kings losing a tightly-fought two-match relegation play-off with the Johannesburg-based Lions last weekend.
SANZAR and the ARU are both pushing for the June international window to be moved to July to ensure Super Rugby can be played in one complete block instead of being interrupted murcia airport car rental for Test matches before the play-offs.
Splitting into two conferences will be the death of what was a great comp. SA teams will slide back to Currie cup form, as they no longer play kiwi teams. Will probably weaken the Boks as well. I know they need 6 teams, but this idea is crazy.
ScrumJunkie, you appear to be one of those people, with others, who hate change. Try going with change, there can be benefits for instance .there are now machines that now fly in the air ..and a magical thing called electrickery murcia airport car rental !!
Australia needs to develop its own second tier and stop trying to boss NZ and SA when we don t need aussie and neither do the saffers. Cut out one of the Aussie teams they can t handle 5 sides. If they want to stay in WA has to stay to help with the flight schedule so either QLD/NSW/ACT murcia airport car rental or Rebells have to go. IF we want this competition to defeat all comers we need to make the competition stronger not weaker and 5 sides in Aussie is a joke. Don t worry about ladder position look at quality of player. Highlanders NZ s worst great list. Kings gone lions list, will be interesting to see what they do. Aussie can t handle 5 squads -Puller knows it but hey new boss got rid of robbie so the aussie rugby public love him-till they find out he s secretly a kiwi!
As an American, and a huge rugby fan, our team blows. Rugby is catching on here at the College level, but very few people begin playing before that. In additon, we have no professional league currently set up as a feeder system into our international side (like the Super XV sides). If we could field two sides and join the SA/ARG half of the comp, both conferences murcia airport car rental would be comprised of 10 squads.
Johnno the only way they wouldn t be cellar swellars is if they imported pretty much their whole sides. What benefit murcia airport car rental is that to US Rugby? What would attendance be like if they were watching sides that had little relevance to the country they were playing in? There would need to be a medium established to ensure a certain number of Americans played, and not all outside backs either. I would say short term pain for longer term gain would be a good idea.
The USA are rubbish at the moment, but one thing is for sure within a very short period of time, the US would become a real powerhouse. The winner of the Pacific Nations Cup could be the other conference for the meantime.
I don t think I would worry to much about the USA and Canada not being included in Super Rugby at some point because the NZRFU is pushing hard to bring your rugby up to speed, just look at the Maori All Blacks they are playing in Philly and Toronto (i think) later this year, and now there is talk of taking the All Blacks to San Francisco to play somebody (as yet undecided) .
The NZRFU wants North America involved in Super Rugby in some way form or fashion and were not the only ones Premiership Rugby in England want to take games to the USA and are currently in talks with the owners of NFL teams in Boston, Washington, Cleveland and others to takes selected games to those NFL stadiums. But this is only the beginning, the English are working with a group in the US who have a plan to set up pro teams in a Anglo/American Trans Atlantic comp that would be played in the NFL off season.
It is the English who desperately want out of the Heinekin Cup and it is my personal opinion that this is why they have made it almost impossible for the other Euro countries to negotiate any sort of peace deal over the future of European Club Rugby, because if the English murcia airport car rental don t sign the new deal by the end of the year the French will follow the English out and the Heinekin Cup and it will be dead.
My personal opinion is that I think SANZAR is being positive in its future endeavours, and that will help take rugby forward into new markets, do people on here think that only Argentinian people will support Argentinian Super Teams, the truth is those teams will get new fans from across South America just like the Warriors Rugby League team get support from across New Zealand even though Leagues not that big here , so just imagine a couple of Super teams each from North America and Asia and where that could lead in the future. Oh by the way we have to find a way to cater for a composite Island team.
They need to get some sort of basic pro league up and running in the near future. There are movements about both to create entirely new Pro organisations and for new stronger Western US based club leagues. What I think would be a definite positive first step in my opinion if the trial being proposed in Texas is followed through whereby clubs unite to form City based squads to compete in a higher level competition.
I dont see how this is so different from what you were promoting murcia airport car rental before of closed conferences, effectively SARU can do what they want with their conference even make it Currie Cup (to all extents and purposes) and add more teams, they could go to 8 SA teams (ala Currie Cup) and 2 Argentinian teams.
Finances to me is a separate issue, and Im sure that SARU would be getting a much bigger shake given they are getting most of a conference to themselves. In fact money wise it seems relatively easy with each nations getting a share out of their conference and a slice out of the play-offs.
To me this is about geography, and not being slighted , for years upon years I see posts of South Africans complaining about how hard the travel is how unfair it is on them etc and now a scenario is being put forward that significantly reduces the travel you seem to be portraying it as the great betrayal.
At the end of the day, unless that status quo is to be preserved the choices for SARU seems to either play in their own competition with some elite games in either the Heinekan Cup or in some SANZAR tournament. SARU should do what ithey consider s in their best interest. Surely it is only be carefully murcia airport car rental examining murcia airport car rental the alternatives that it can be decided what is the best option.
I mean if I was SARU, probably what I would be arguing for control of the SA conference murcia airport car rental (and would probably want 8 SA teams, and maybe 1-2 Argentinian murcia airport car rental if they were ready and a larger slice of the financial pie etc. I would then look at what options there may be to play in Europe, talk to the key stakeholders (Broadcasters, players and fans about their preferences) about all options and then make a decision.
Why do you think that Australia and NZ would get an equal share of the South African conferences revenue? I doubt that will happen. Just as South Africa surely won t get an equal share of the revenue for the trans tasman conference.
I still think the best thing to do is to have separate leagues that go for about 15 weeks followed by a 6 week super rugby cup tournament involving all the teams split into pools with seedings based on league positions.
It s only happened in the most recent broadcast deal. It doesn t make much sense with a closed conference system. The Currie Cup broadcast revenue is not split and a closed conference would be pretty similar.
It has been an even split for this one BBA. This is the first time though as I understand it. SA do get more money for Currie Cup, than NZ for the ITM or aust for the ah Shute Shield, but like batteries and accessories, they are sold separately.
As an optinal extra to ^ comment, I think as this is the first time it was an even split, there is no reason to assume the next one would have to remain that way. I think it would be good to negotiate your own in country if at all possible. It would diminish the collective negotiation, but remove much of the politicking and angst. I d also like to know who is actually worth what.
I don t think people should underestimate Argentina s depth or excitement factor for that matter. 2016 is still 3-years away. The game is booming in Argentina, murcia airport car rental growing at a far faster rate than rugby union in OZ. And also has soccer, but that is only 1 footy code doesn t have to to deal with 4, and has 40 million people. OZ just 23 mill, and NZ 4.5 million.
So think that depth in 3 years time will come though. Argentina finished 6th , we finished 7th. So 2 teams , maybe one in Rosario or Tucaman, or in Buenos Aires, would be exciting. Argentina sports fans actually turn up to sports matches and show passion, for there club teams in sport, which I can t say for aussy teams bar the QLD reds. And NZ teams could get into the act more, as could yes you guessed it the bulls.
Auckland Blues regular season crowds or Hurricanes crowds are nothing to write home about, and even the Sader fans could of turned out in bigger numbers, Highlanders had a dud team they have an excuse.
And there rugby fans, Argies are amongst the most passionate in the business. There soccer crowds are packed every weekend massive crowds, they will flock to some high quality pro rugby it will be fresh and exciting.
And they have the depth coming through, they have at least 40-50 players professional now playing overseas across murcia airport car rental Europe and Japan
