Thankfully, we were exhausted from traveling and the day of driving that we both crashed early. The shuttle picked us up at our hotel at 1:15am (yes, you read that time correctly). We picked up a couple more people and headed to their facility for a safety video and a no host breakfast (aka pre-packaged danish and a can of Aloha Maid or coffee). After loading up the bikes, we head up Mt. Haleakala. It was freezing, very windy and pitch black when we arrived. It wasn t long and more vehicles starting car and rentals andtoronto arriving. Here is the gorgeous sunrise at approximately 5:40am Hawaii time.
After the sunrise, we drove down to about 6,500 feet and started our bike ride from there. There weren t a lot of stops where we had a chance to take photos, but they made sure to snap shots like this: The bike ride was wonderful. It mostly downhill with the exception of just a few hills and even those weren t bad. We went through a beautiful area with eucalyptus trees that you could smell them as you were riding, and we stopped for breakfast at an organic Lavender Farm french toast (one large slice and a little fruit) for $9. After breakfast, car and rentals andtoronto we were riding to Paia and went through a small rain storm right after everyone stripped off the jacket and pants we were given. I was really glad that I decided to keep the pants at that point. After Paia, we ended at the beach and 80 degrees.
Our tour ended and we were back to the hotel by 10:30am. We grabbed car and rentals andtoronto some lunch, took a short nap, Skyped with the boys, laid by the pool, grabbed snacks at Safeway, and had dinner at Round Table Pizza (I know, real Hawaiian, but at least we don t have one here.)
