Our trip the long way home didn t quite get off to the smooth start you d hope for. We arrived at London Heathrow Terminal 5 two hours ahead of time unsuitably over packed somehow royal carribean cruises for january with 2 bags each for checkin and additional roll-ons for the cabin. Something fishy was going on when we couldn t checkin to our BA flight electronically, and when the checkin staff couldn t find us listed on the flight I started getting flashbacks to my days flying stand-by. Traumatic memories, I ve seen a grown man cry after a weekend of rejections. The checkin staff diverted us to the BA reservations desk to see what could be wrong with our booking and after a few phone calls between BA and our travel agent, much to-ing and fro-ing, our booking was in some sort of system limbo, the diagnosis was somewhere between system problem and user error. royal carribean cruises for january BA are on Galilieo, the agent was on Amadaeus, and the two systems were apparently not talking to each other. I thought I d left work the week before!
The BA lady who helped us out was actually great, and she sorted out some hotel and food vouchers, and did what she could with the rest of our itinerary so that we wouldn't again be left hanging stuck. Thanks Miss Jane.
So instead of a 12 hour flight to San Fran we had a 12 hour sleep at the Renaissance Hotel Heathrow. Not all bad, a burger and beer made it better. They also had one of their big function rooms set up for stranded passengers for dinner, some catering bay maries set up with a few meat and veg choices.. one last chicken curry in the UK. Did you know that chicken tikka masala has been proclaimed Britian's national dish? Yes. There didn't seem to be that many people stranded we noticed, us and another couple and 2 more lonely travellers spread out amongst a vast banquet room of empty tables, as if we were at a wedding royal carribean cruises for january for 200 guests but only we turned up.
Did you know that there's a whole tribe of people hanging about the fences at Heathrow on weekends? Plane spotting. Seeing as I had some new found spare time on my hands, I stepped out for a bit and joined them for a couple of take offs. And there seem to be all sorts of people doing it, not just your stereotypical middle aged bloke wearing a safari vest, funny hat and a set of powerful binoculars. We even saw a girl in goth getting involved.. but funnily enough nobody of middle eastern appearance . Not sure what it's all about though, seems you need some sort of OCD to get it.
