Hi Jeff and thanks for your recent email.   You asked a very loaded question!     Personally, I'm not a major fan of condotels.  We may have 1 or 2 here, but a third was slated to happen and didn't maui vacation packages discount because you could buy a nice studio or 1 bedroom near the beach for about the same price.  And there is a  mega-availability of units currently on the market that are such a better investment value.  What we really need to determine is your price range.   And then I can search from there.  This area, Destin, is a vacation paradise.   In the summer we are packed and units rent very well.  There are alot of companies who do vacation rental management, charge a fee, but keep on top of getting the units rented out, cleaning after guests leave, doing any necessary maintenance and just keeping the place current.  Destin proper, heart-of-Destin, or old Destin is mostly high rise condos on the Gulf of Mexico.   There are some that properties that do very well and people come back to year after year.   I believe Sundestin is a condohote and it does pretty well, altho I have never sold a unit in there.  Pelican Beach is also a very popular rental complex for families with lots of amenities and most units facing the gulf.   Holiday Isle has Sandpiper Cove and that complex does well also.  There are studio units available for about $150K.  But the studios only sleep 2-3 people, so you aren't going to make a killing on them as far as coming out with a positive cash flow.   In fact, right now, it may be difficult to come up with a positive cash flow with any of them unless you really pay a great low price for the unit, crunch the numbers, maui vacation packages discount and come out even or ahead.

Metal Obsession: With the upcoming shows being your first to Australian shores, what can we expect from the band? With 5 albums in the last 10 years will you be playing a "best of" set or focusing more on the latest album?
Mark Jensen: Personally I get easily bored when bands focus too much on their latest album. I think best off sets are in general the best for the crowd. Especially as we come for the first time to Australia, so most people haven t heard any of our older tracks live before. Best of it will be.
MO: Australia has been blessed with so many bands coming new york city meetings hotel out here in recent years such as Opeth who have just finished up a recent tour, Nightwish toured earlier this year, and your good friends in Kamelot are due here in June. What have you heard about the Australian crowds?
MJ: Floor Jensen told me the crowds in Australia are awesome, and when she says so, it s true. She has been touring all over the world and has seen many crowds, so when she likes it, it must be good [laughs].
MO: I hear you are pulling out all the stops for this Retrospect show and making it a 3-hour celebration to be streamed over the internet. new york city meetings hotel Are there any plans to go beyond that and release new york city meetings hotel it as a live DVD/BLU-RAY?
MJ: A DVD would be great, we ll shoot the whole show and if the material is good enough (what we hope for of course) we might release it as DVD/BLU-RAY. But before we can confirm it needs to be 100% sure.
MO: "Requiem for the Indifferent" is Epica's most successful album to date and that each previous album has been selling a little more and more as you go along. new york city meetings hotel What do you think is driving this increased popularity? The music, the live constant shows and touring new territories, Simone exposing the larger metal community to Epica through her work with Kamelot?
MJ: All the reasons you mention contribute. There s not one big reason but I think it s very important that we always follow our heart. We never do something that we don t like to do and we just make music that we like ourselves. We will not sell our soul to the devil by getting a bit more money. Music is art and art is only good when you make it with true intentions and passion.
MO: I read that you are in a fortunate position in that the band is able to make a living purely out of the music and therefore new york city meetings hotel expect full dedication from everyone involved. How hard is that given Simone's commitments to Kamelot, and yours to Mayan?
MJ: It s all a matter of good planning and keeping Epica as the absolute priority. Nothing should harm Epica. It s also important that everybody communicates well regarding this, the only way to make things work.
MO: You have a new guitarist and bass player in the band nowadays. How have they settled in to the band and have they contributed any thoughts / new ideas for new material or are you still the main songwriter in that regard?
MJ: It doesn t matter to me who writes the most, the quality is all that matters. Isaac wrote already some great tracks and Rob is brand new in the band so I don t know yet but I have the feeling he can write also great music! Everybody in the band is important and valuable.
MO: Epica's music has so many varied styles in it yet it all seems to work so well and is the perfect vehicle for Simone s voice and a natural follow-up to your work in After Forever. How much time does it take to write the music and compositions before you feel it is ready to record? Do you write and re-write everything until you think it's perfect?
MJ: There s not one single recipe to write songs but usually someone starts with a song and finishes it until he s satisfied. By presenting it to the band the other guys get the possibility to change things for the better, Sometimes there s much to be changed and sometimes almost nothing. Also the time to write a song varies. Sometimes it takes just some days or weeks and sometimes it can take several years. For example Kingdom of Heaven took us about 4 or 5 years. e started writing that song right after Consign to Oblivion was released.
MO: "Requiem for the Indifferent" new york city meetings hotel is a slight departure from the bands previous albums in that some of the songs are more straight-ahead and more "rockier" (if that's new york city meetings hotel a word). Some of the bands finest slower material is also on this album. Was that a conscious decision to move slightly away from what you had done in the past and to experiment a bit more on this album?
MJ: It wasn t a conscious decision but something that just happened. The only thing we wanted to avoid was making an album that would sound too much like another. Every album is a result of acting on intuition. We don t think too much, just do it. There s just a basic idea and intention to write something in a certain direction but it can change along the process and result into something completely different. I think this is the best way to produce something of high quality. Otherwise you d restrict yourself too much.
MO: Your other band MaYan shows your fascination with the Mayan civilization. What peaked new york city meetings hotel your interest in the Mayan culture and civilization? Was it this whole 21/12/12 thing or just from reading books on ancient South American and Latin American culture? What's the one thing we could all learn from the Mayan culture in today's society?
MJ: The 2012 thing sounded spectacular but my fascination goes beyond that. I got fascinated by their wisdom and knowledge about astrology. With the instruments they had by that time they couldn t know about certain planets and stars but still they knew all about it. The question is, how? I am still figuring it out but for sure we modern humans lost something of the (higher) spiritual level of some ancient cultures.
MO: You also have a Masters in Psychology and I've seen interviews where you said growing up you were passionate about that field. How hard was it giving that up for a career in music? Have you been able to apply what you have learned in psychology to your career in Epica?

Greg and Andy both had to leave due to their commitments to Misery Signals and Fall Out Boy , so we have a guitarist by the name of Eric Dunn and a drummer by the name of Chris Zugschwert. Most of us have been busy with home life and jobs.
Well we put out our second LP All Hail the Void in July of last year as well as a new EP titled Shift of Redemption this past April. We ve done 4 US tours and a European tour. This band is constantly in motion.
We are touring Australia in July with the band Urns . Well the newer members are not vegan, to each their own. Amanda is very into being vegan and will always be, I eat 99.9% vegan but I ve found myself giving in to the veggie patties at Subway once in a while with the excessive amount of touring that we ve been doing.
I never really had this problem except with pizza, which Whole Foods and Ian s have actually made this pretty easy (the vegan mac n cheese pizza at Ian s is choice). Cheese is a hard thing to replace, so I just found other things that I would eat instead, which was actually good for me. When I decided to go vegan, I was at a point where almost every meal was a frozen cheese pizza, so I definitely needed a change of diet, and luckily I found other foods that were just as cheap and easy to make and I didn t have any problems. I can relate with cigarettes though, I would love to quit, I ve tried time and time again, and I just fail miserably every time.
I really miss going running in the winter, I like biking up to the park and reading from time to time, and of course I love a good barbecue, etc. Winter seemed to last exceptionally long this year, so it s nice to just get out of the house and have it not be miserable tropicana atlantic city hotel and casino outside!

This morning was the Birmingham Tour de Cure, an event to raise awareness about and funds for American Diabetes Association. It s a bike ride more than a race with choices of distances. I did the 20 mile ride along with my cousin Nancy, who came from New Hampshire for the event. Both of our mothers were diabetic along with their sister so all three girls. I have several aunts on the other side of the family who were also diabetic and now, three sisters and several cousins who have the disease. I know there is a chance that it may be in my future, given the genetics.
I was part of Team Red, a team for those with diabetes and those who support people with diabetes. I wound up with a Red Rider jersey as a result but I am not quite sure if I was really supposed budget accommodation london uk to. It was a great event. Now I am moving on to think about Step Out, a 5k walk that is still scheduled for September 10 in Tuscaloosa. We have put the planning on hold due to the tornado but will get going again this summer. Like Tour de Cure, Step Out walks are held all over the country. Millie, It is sad we lost Jerry from this earth! But I think he might be smiling up there. He did it

Passionate. A little feisty and a ball of fire at times. A great sense of humor and a broad smile.  These are things I will remember about Jerry Pope, friend, fellow cyclist, web page to track airline flights Red Rider and Champion fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. Jerry is an example of someone who lived life with passion against great odds.  In 1981 he was paralyzed after an accident.  Later he developed Type 2 diabetes.  In 2010 he became a double amputee.  But those were not the things that defined Jerry.  Yes, life was difficult in many ways but he didn t let his circumstances beat him.  He was an athlete he skied, web page to track airline flights golfed, played tennis and cycled on a hand cycle.  He was a business man.  He was a friend to many, many people. Unfortunately Jerry passed away during Tour de Cure. He was coming back in and most likely had a heart attack.  Heart problems are one of the related complications of diabetes. I met Jerry shortly after I came to Tuscaloosa and before I took up cycling.  Once I started cycling, I saw him out on the roads and rode with him many times.  We shared a passion for raising awareness about diabetes and for finding ways to educate people about the disease.  Jerry and I spoke quite a bit about fundraising efforts and how to get people involved in Tour de Cure. We shared our successes web page to track airline flights and our frustrations in our efforts. The morning of Tour de Cure he told me he had 26,000 miles on his hand cycle and that it was time to buy a new one. He also told me that he wanted to be an inspiration to others he wanted people to see that diabetes was not a limitation for living life to the fullest.  Jerry did inspire all of us and will continue to.  This year, as in the past, he spoke before the riders left. He also spoke at our kick off event.  In fact, I think he tried to encourage people every chance he had to do so.
Jerry inspired me to try harder and to continue web page to track airline flights to work to raise awareness about diabetes.  He was a man of faith as well.  One of the last things he said to me this morning was that no matter what was going on in our lives there was always someone who had something worse. He believed that God watched over him and I know he did.   As I sat and waited at the emergency room for his brother to arrive, I had an image of Jerry s smile in my mind. I think he now looking down over all of us, smiling.

You can t really save it, you can t buy more of it, and as it turns out you really don t know how much of it you have in the first place.  But I digress.
Yes indeed, with 2011 just around the corner it will be time for us to nail down our rally plans, as registration for many of the well-attended rental car in spain events here in the South will open up soon.  The Georgia Tandem Rally has already pegged February 7 as the first day of its 5-day registration window and I suspect I ll hear from Tim P. regarding rental car in spain the Tennessee Tandem Rally web site updates.
We also received a nice notice from our friends at Santana regarding their 2011 tandem tours and rallies, to include a pretty nice incentive offer and some other juicy offers including a very luxurious sounding Mother s Day Weekend event in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Our first and only Santana Rally was their 1999 Mother s Day Rally at Asheville, North Carolina which was am amazing event, so there s definitely an interest in the Chattanooga event.  However, May is becoming a busy month for us
And, beyond all of that there s the cost of a Santana event.  As mentioned in another blog entry back in August entitled, Putting a Price on a Tandem Holiday , Santana s events really are a great value compared to other commercial tours that don t cater to couples who ride tandems the way Santana does.  But, dropping $1,700 for 3-nights of luxurious lodging, 4 days of luxurious meals and special events intermixed with a few hundred miles of tandem riding is still a lot of coin for us, remembering that the 3-day Southern Tandem Rally was only $475 + another $120 for meals and incidentals. No, it wasn t anywhere near as luxurious as a Santana Rally Hmmmm.  Yeah, that Asheville rental car in spain Weekend was pretty special, and we also met a lot of folks at that event who became dear friends, including Tim and Sharon P.!  We ll see.  The riding in Chattanooga can be awesome rental car in spain and we d probably see and do things rental car in spain in Chattanooga that we ve never done before.
Other rallies on our watch list include the Alabama Tandem Weekend in late March (see earlier post from last week), the Southern Tandem Rally our lucky 13th (yeah, we missed one back in 1999).  The Eastern Tandem Rally s MATES event is always a possibility as is ETR, even though we re not fans of the format, i.e., no mass starts, but have many friends who we enjoy visiting with.  It would be fun to spend a day with Mel and Barbara Kornbluh at their Open House in March again and we d also like to do some type of trip, most likely here in the states.
Oh yeah, and I just received the invite for our Georgia Tandem Club s annual planning event in late January and we re overdue for hosting some type of ride, so there s that to get scheduled.  Yup, 2011 is just around the corner, time to start working the calendar.
