I m always on the lookout for amazing airfare deals. Among the priceless tools I use to help me find unbeatable specials is FlyerTalk , a leading travel website that has an entire forum dedicated to unbelievably low airfares .
The catch about FlyerTalk is that the deals posted there are almost always city- and time-specific, car rental miami airport so if you aren t flying from a particular point A to a particular point B between dates XX/XX/XXXX and YY/YY/YYYY, the deals, however great they may be, don t apply to you.
One of my more memorable visits to FlyerTalk was at the end of September, when I was searching for a ticket back to the United States after more than five months traveling in Europe and Asia. As luck would have it, one of the stop-the-presses deal posted on FlyerTalk less than 1,000 USD for a one-way, first class ticket from Asia to North America applied to me!
Well, kind of. See, the fare rules specified that the ticket needed to originate in Yangon, Myanmar ; I was in Bangkok . Additionally, the ticket had to terminate in Montréal ; I needed to go to Austin. Thankfully, flights from Bangkok to Yangon are cheap; and all of the itineraries I priced stopped car rental miami airport in New York, where I could board a likewise cheap one-way flight to Austin.
After I received confirmation, I returned to FlyerTalk, where the mood was less than jubilant. car rental miami airport You know, one naysayer quipped, when I posted that I, too, had gotten in on the deal, this looks like it s a mistake fare.
In layman s terms, the policy car rental miami airport stated car rental miami airport that airlines must honor the original fare a passenger paid for any ticket that originates, terminates or include a stop in the U.S, or face a steep fine. I was set, it seemed and I was thrilled!
car rental miami airport Unfortunately, my excitement would be short-lived. Less than a week later, I received an email from Swiss International car rental miami airport Airlines, the airline who had ticketed the reservation, explaining that the fare had in fact been erroneously priced, apparently on account of the volatile exchange rate of the kyat , Myanmar s currency .
Additionally, Swiss offered a full refund and a douchey poor little me monologue, car rental miami airport which explained that honoring the fares would make them lose thousands of dollars car rental miami airport per passenger. To be sure, my comrades back at FlyerTalk weren t buying it.
Swiss was legally obligated to honor the fare, they insisted, again referencing the DOT s policy, car rental miami airport specifically an instance earlier in the year when the department invoked the policy against Korean Air . Along with most of the other FlyerTalk members who d bought tickets, I filed an official complaint with the DOT.
Or not. Just this morning, I received another email from Swiss, which explained that because the planned itinerary stopped in the United States for less than 24 hours, they were not bound by the DOT regulations. The DOT has yet to comment, well, at all.
What will ultimately come of this situation is a mystery, although I have a feeling that if it comes down to it, stubborn Swiss would rather pay the DOT s fines than let hundreds of passengers fly in first class for pennies on the dollar.
Indeed, my main question is this: Who is really in the wrong? Is it Swiss, for canceling the tickets in spite of the fact that doing so likely violated some part of the DOT regulations? Or is it people like me, who purchased the fare knowing that it was likely too good to be true?
íf a business advertises a price tag on an item, the business has to sell the item for that price, no matter what, at least in austria. if you want, i can ring a few hotlines here, regarding your issue.
The biggest offender is the travel agency they were booked through for not doing their job. The second offender is DOT for blowing off those of us who purchased the tickets. Making up a 24+ hour stop in the US rule that was not written in the regulation
