And then it was time to take photos of the square, Piazza del Compo , which was also the group meeti
My 7th day in Italy, my 3rd day in Tuscany, started off good and early. I had to be up out of bed by 6.30 and out the door by 7. So when I opened my eyes and saw 7.20, FUCK was all that was running ogg airport car rentals through my mind. After the fattening feed and long day walking yesterday I was pretty bloody tired. But no time for a quick shower, straight to the bathroom to pretty myself up as best I could and make myself smell beautiful. I skipped past the bakery (big mistake it would turn out) because I thought I didn t have time to stop for a mere 30 seconds to order something. I hustled to the station and got there just after 8am, in time to catch the first tour bus. There were 2 tour buses for the day, so at least I wasn t going to miss out. I paid a good amount of money for the day and it turned out to be worth every single cent, especially the Pisa part. I was surprised to find out later in the day that less than 2 dozen people decided to climb the tower when there were more than 50 people on the tour. This was all part of the walkabout Best of Tuscany tour , I recommend you do it if you have an extra day in the Tuscan ogg airport car rentals region.
The day started off nicely, with our first journey taking a bit over an hour to Siena, our first stop on this, our tour guide Agatha telling ogg airport car rentals us about the history of Tuscany while we took the scenic route. I didn t manage to take any snaps on the journey ogg airport car rentals to Siena because I wasn t seated in the window seat, oh well. But take my word for it it s a beautiful drive. We arrived ogg airport car rentals in Siena and changed tour guides to our local guide who walked us around the area. It s a gorgeous city with an amazing and rich history that coincides with Florence and the roman empire. While our guide walked us through the city, showing us some of the landmarks, especially the worlds ogg airport car rentals oldest still operating bank, and an awesome square that s used for absolutely insane horse races each year, I managed to snap off a few photos.
ogg airport car rentals And then it was time to take photos of the square, Piazza del Compo , which was also the group meeting place. It s very impressive where the main area is sloped to a central point from about 170 degrees, sloping down about 5 metres. The central point is directly in front of the town. Twice a year the Palio di Siena runs in June and August that sees the 17 historial districts of Siena compete ogg airport car rentals in a 3 lap race. A suitable ogg airport car rentals depth of appropriate depth is added to the pavement, allowing ogg airport car rentals the horses to run the circuit, but not without blatant slips at the turns. It s an amazing race that takes place in an unrestrained fashion, ogg airport car rentals often with blows, violence and and low blows. The race is about the horse and the district. Until more recent years, the jockeys didn t even matter. Check it out here:
And then it was time to walk to Il Duomo di Siena , a magnificent building and considered the 2nd most important cathedral in Italy. It s stunning ogg airport car rentals outside and gorgeous outside and when I asked the tour guide about Il Duomo di Firenze, she said that she liked this one more because it still had most of the art pieces, whereas the one in Firenze, magnificent looking, doesn t have the same art. If you re visiting Tuscany, you have to visit Siena and you have to visit the cathedral, it s amazing.
After walking back to the bus, it was time to drive to the Chianti winery, first making a quick stop at an organic winery farm that creates various types of fresh produce and Florentine steak . Our local guide walked us through the winery, distillery, past the grape vines and into the feeding shed for the cows where the bulls were tied up while eating.
Then we were back on the bus for 5 or so minutes to the winery ogg airport car rentals s restaurant where we enjoyed a fantastic 3 course meal with 3 different ogg airport car rentals wines. It was a great lunch, talked to the people around me and made some new friends. Afterwards we jumped back in the bus for a short drive to San Gimignano . We changed tour guide at the restaurant because our original guide was sick with an ear infection and our new guide was a local from San Gimignano. It s a wonderful and beautiful place and you have to visit it when you re in Tuscany. The town is a small walled medieval town in central Tuscany with magnificently preserved medieval architecture with towers and tower houses. There s a lot of tourism here and many shops cater for the tourists. ogg airport car rentals There s excellent gelato in the town square, ogg airport car rentals as well as amazing panoramic look outs and the option to climb the town centre tower. I m not even sure the pictures I took do it justice, it s a beautiful place to visit.
The countryside is spectacular farmland but it resulted ogg airport car rentals in 3 people being sick and several stops for fresh air. Then it was Pisa, rich in history and culture with of course, the world famous leaning tower and it s accompanying Il Duomo. We disembarked the buses and jumped ogg airport car rentals into these train tourist vehicles things which are well, scary. I didn t like them and to be honest you don t see an awful lot in them and they get bloody hot. Not to mention they don t have any suspension at all! I paid the extra to climb the tower and it s magnificent. People are going up down all the time but it s worth it. It is unfortunate that the marble steps are significantly worn down from use though, like seriously worn down. Some of the steps have depressions of an inch or more from wear. So when you climb the tower, just be careful you don t trip. It s also a little freaky when you re climbing it s steep, then it s angular, then it s almost flat and quick to climb. ogg airport car rentals 3 revolutions and then you re at the top.
Then it was back on to the train thing for a tour through the city, which is pretty cool. The city has a population circa 50k but more than 30k of the population are students. After the city tour, back on the bus and back home. I talked with a bunch of people on the bus from Melbourne who were also traveling for 7 weeks but were near the end of their trip. The hour passed very quickly and then it was off the bus. The beautiful tour guide Lavinia ogg airport car rentals recommended that I try Ristorante Le Fonticine which was absolutely fantastic. They had the Florentine steak for 5.80€/100gm and a minimum weight of 700gm. It s very expensive, but absolutely worth it, probably the best steak I ve ever had. Then it was time to walk back to my accommodation and stop for gelato on the way. It was amazing for 4.50€.
