BANGKOK, 16 September 2013: Thailand's Tourist Police Division is driving motor homes to major tourist destinations as part of a month-long 'Thailand Tourist Police Road Show 2013' to build confidence in safety ahead of the high season.
The division has acquired motor homes built on a Toyota pick-up chassis for the campaign. They are very similar in design to the popular motor homes rented by Avis or Budget Car Rental in Australia and Europe, but still an oddity in Thailand.
Tourist Police Chief Major General, Roi Engkapairoj, said he aims to ensure police readiness to provide protection at tourist attractions,  nationwide, especially quality inns during the high tourist season due to start in November.
quality inns Of more importance is an ongoing proposal that immigration police, tourist police and local police officers be recruited for joint units at international border checkpoints to offer better service and end duplication of responsibilities.
