To celebrate our wedding anniversary we decided to try the Alexandra Hotel for Easter Day lunch, but we had left it too late and they were fully booked. chicago cubs tickets wrigley field Luckily they had a table free for dinner, so we booked for start of play at 18:30. This gave us time to enjoy Lyme Regis, which is a wonderful bustling seaside town, with lots of souvenir shops and fish chip shops. It also boasts a regal esplanade taking you from the town to the world famous Cobb, giving you a wonderful view of the town and the Alexandra Hotel on the cliff top.
While we were enjoying the view and a lot of fresh sea air blasting in from the east, we noticed the yacht that was moored up was now adrift heading towards the rocks. The local men of Lyme soon burst into action and the lifeboat was launched, one man leapt onto the yacht, chicago cubs tickets wrigley field secured the rope and the lifeboat pulled the yacht to safety.
We were warmly welcomed and invited to a table in the bar area, where we could see through to the conservatory with its great sea views. The menu is nicely balanced with plenty of local fish, along with local meats, they also had a full vegetarian menu.
We chose for starters the goats cheese, sea food platter and for mains we both chose the herb crusted cod. After smelling the fish chips along the esplanade we both ordered a side of triple cooked chips!
We were shown into the conservatory where we could enjoy the sea views and the fresh sea air every time the outside door was opened!! Lyme Bay wasn t its prettiest best and looked very brown and uninviting, unlike chicago cubs tickets wrigley field the service which was tiptop.
The Capricorn Goats Cheese Bavarois Cotta, with beetroot textures and candied walnuts was delicious. The earthy beetroot had a zingy fresh dressing and the crunch of the walnuts complimented the creamy goats cheese, Vicky really enjoyed this dish.
My seafood platter, chicago cubs tickets wrigley field consisted of smoked mackerel pate, salmon gravlax, a crusty crab ball and served with fresh wild garlic pesto. The pesto was amazingly fresh and went well with the strong flavour of the mackerel. The crab balls were a delight and I could have done with a few more I like crab!
The restaurant was now filling up with guests from the hotel as our mains arrived. What a splendid looking dish it was too, just had to wait for the chips and we could start.. Hmmm after a couple of minutes the server came over and apologised that the chips would be a couple more minutes! So we tucked into the cod, wonderful fresh spring flavours from the sorrel, broad beans and new potatoes. The crust on the cod was delicious and the cod wonderful fresh. But where were the chips?! Finally they arrived, but they were a huge disappointment under cooked and not crisp at all, so much so we only managed a few.
We didn t have a dessert because we still had a fridge full from the previous nights dinner party, but there was a tempting selection, dark chocolate chicago cubs tickets wrigley field praline, iced strawberry parfait, bread butter pudding, blood orange cheesecake, ice-cream and west country cheeses.
We really enjoyed the meal and wonderful service at the Alexandra Hotel, the only blot were the chips, but when we came to pay they had been scrubbed from the bill We can thoroughly recommend you visit for a little piece of luxury and a great meal, or even better stay for the weekend and enjoy everything West Dorset can offer you.
