As this is Singapore, you ll want to know about eating and shopping-both are abundant in and around

SINGAPORE The island nation of Singapore was once an unspoiled tropical rainforest–that is, until it became one of the most densely populated travel company countries on earth. Skyscrapers and couture flagships have long since encroached on the lush flora and fauna here, but the actual jungle travel company manages to snake its way into patches of the modern concrete travel company jungle as a reminder of Singapore s Eden-like past.
Take, for example, the pool and gardens at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. When I read their description on the hotel website, I knew I had to book this place: an enormous pool surrounded travel company by palm trees and lush greenery, plus 15 acres of botanical gardens with vibrant tropical flowers, shady fruit trees, and red-gold Japanese koi swimming through ponds and tumbling waterfalls. (There s a tour of the garden given every Friday morning–seriously, it s that major). Paradise! I reserved a standard Garden Wing room and made sure to request a pool view (make sure you do too if you go with the Garden Wing) so I could drink in all that verdant green from my terrace.
As fate would have it, when my husband and I arrived, we were whisked into an upgrade travel company in the Valley Wing, the hotel s most exclusive wing out of three (in addition to Garden and Valley, there s also the Tower Wing–this is a huge, 750-room hotel spread over three buildings). While I was at first reluctant to give up that garden proximity, the Valley Wing didn t disappoint. It has its own separate entrance, reception, and dedicated lobby that is more intimate and slightly more elegant than the large, bustling, crystal-chandelier-endowed lobby shared by the Garden and Tower. The best part was the perks: breakfast included, free wine and champagne all day until 10:30pm, and sandwiches and canapés served during specific travel company hours (all freebies are on offer in the lobby lounge).
The room itself was nice but a bit older feeling than rooms at some of the hotel s luxury travel company Asian peers. Despite updates and renovations, the 30-year-old property just doesn t have that crisp, ultra-modern minimalist vibe like the Landmark MO in Hong Kong or the Opposite House in Beijing. Just as the Singaporean travel company jungle creeps into the city, the Shangri-La s seasoned age seems to permeate the touches of over-the-top opulence. But I did appreciate the large bathroom with L Occitane toiletries and the free broadband Internet travel company (though no Wi-Fi, unfortunately).
As this is Singapore, you ll want to know about eating and shopping–both are abundant travel company in and around the Shangri-La. At The Line, the hotel s 24-hour restaurant, you can raid one of the 16 buffet stations during peak meal hours or order a la carte during off hours. Other choices for feasting include Shang Palace (Chinese), Nadaman (Japanese kaiseki), Blu (modern progressive cuisine), and Rose Veranda (afternoon tea). As for consumption of the clothing variety, the haute boutiques of Orchard Road are a short walk away. (On the other hand, the hotel is a good distance from Marina Bay and the waterfront, but Singapore is so small that nothing is really too far.)
And how about the pool and gardens I so eagerly anticipated? Perhaps the best parts of the hotel, they didn t disappoint. Poolside, attendants cater to your every whim (including food and drinks travel company as desired), but the palm fronds they bend only to the breeze.
